The environment was really nice we felt like we were in the movie lady and the t. The host seat us down within ten minuets of arrival. Waiter was checking up on us to make sure we had everything we needed. This time I had to wait 20min to get the table I reserved. I said to the Hostess "Is not the whole point of reserving a table is so I do not have to stand around in a crowded bar, mind you my lady gives me heat for having to stand around 'like tourist' which I totally agree with her. She is so smart." She apoligized so I was like no problem however you are comping my drinks while I wait for my reserved table, right? She clearly had no athority to make that kind of decision. So i did not press the issue. Some dishes were good. I recommend avoiding the grilled items. They overcook the grilled meat & vegetables; the items are burned to a crisp and very dry. I've had two grilled plates in the past (fish and chicken), they were dry but not as black as the dishes we had recently. I took care to pick something out of their special menu this time in hopes that it would be superb, but the food was dry, hard, and black as charcoal.
Salads were delicious. We tried all the different salads. Everyone enjoyed their salads. Some people in our party loved their Parmesan Chicken and Pasta dishes. It nice finding a menu that has something the kids really enjoyed, rather than your typical hotdog, chicken nugget, regulars that are on most restaurant menus. With reservations we were seated immediately. The staff was very friendly and the food comes out very fast. I'm usually not a huge fan of paying big money for italian dishes since making it at home can be very easy and cheap. I ordered the wine and he brought me a tasting before serving all. He also let me examine the cork before pouring, and then (after I had approved) served the ladies first. Our server knew the etiquette of serving a signifiant wine, of which Maggiano's in San Jose has a varied selection. The a bottle from Stag's Leap Winery or Caymus will hardly do anything but your wallet any wrong.
The overall experience was fantastic. We relaxed, ordered fine wine, and had enough delicious food for leftovers the next day.

But since we made a reservation online, we only had to wait for a couple minutes even though we were five minutes late. The Special for Two was such a great deal: an appetizer, two classic pastas, dessert, and two separate classic pastas to take home for dinner the next day for only $39.95! For the most part the food was very tasty, but one detail diminished the overall experience. Poor timing on the arrival of the entrées. They arrived and my wife and father-in law hadn't received their salad or soup respectively. BUT, the waiter was very understanding at the poor timing and my request to refire the entrees was understood. Prior to him leaving at the end of his shift ( which was in the middle of our meal), he came by to apologize a second time for the timing error.
