Portions are decent, not too huge, but over seasoned, I would like to taste the food not the seasoned salt or whatever it is that they use. Desserts were classic, but too sweet, but it is probably considered normal to anyone else. Service was good, we had a very amenable server who took care of her tables well. Hackensack is a bit of a trek from where I live in Queens but it's definitely worth the trip. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They had no problem giving us a booth when they offered us a table. Their lasagna is my favorite. Plus I love that they let you take another pasta dish home. Their "family style" menu was a great option, with clearly more than enough choices to satisfy everyone. We started off with brushetta for an appetizer which was tasty. It was served very cold. My husband had the Linguine di Mare which he loved. My son had the Rustic Chicken & Shrimp al Forno, he liked it a lot. I had the Crab & Shrimp Tropheo which I thought was bland in flavor. Our server was nice enough to give my husband a plate of cookies and strawberry for his birthday even though we had a cake at home.

The only complaint would be that no one escorted us to our table, instead simply pointing and basically saying, "it's over there". The food was amazing and our waiter was an absolute gem. Dos Caminos for Mexican is one; Maggiano's for Italian American food is another. Nothing culinarily insane, but solid executions of italian american favorites. In Northern NJ, where italian restaurants are a dime a dozen, you often have to go from one to another to get the "satisfying" version of a dish you want, there may be "off" days for a restaurant, or you'll have trouble getting a reservation as it's small or the weekend. If you want somewhere to go with a bunch of friends and you've got a few folks who won't go for asian or mexican, this is a good alternative.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMPlentiful DeliciousWasn't cheap, but, it was excellent. The chicken marsala was a little different than typical Marcella in the New York area, however, it was excellent.the fried zucchini is the best appetizer on the menu:it is soft on the inside and deliciously crunchy on the outside with a wonderful, light aioli dipping sauce. the star of the meal was the rigatoni D:from what I can tastethere is vodka in the creamy tomato sauce. Food is one of the reasons, but another, more important one, is the help--specifically Jeff the manager. Watching him watching everything going on in this very large restaurant, is a joy. He happily (and competently) resolves any issues that arise, sees that everyone has a friendly greeting and, in our case, always stops by and chats for a bit. Yes I could go on and on about the food--it's freshly prepared, delicious, etc., etc., but it is the staff that brings it to us and this one has a very special person at the helm.
