A word from Maenam
Simplicity, innovation and balance are the key ingredients in chef Angus An’s philosophy behind the authentic Thai dishes served at Maenam. His menu is rooted in balancing intense fresh flavours with seasonal ingredients and locally sourced products, while respecting the tradition and the origin of each recipe. With inspiration found in continuous travel, the menu at Maenam is ever-changing but always served with Thai flare and enjoyed in its traditional context, be it family style dining or riffs on Thai street food.

Cellaring one of the most exciting Riesling collections in Vancouver, the wine list at Maenam is a food focused undertaking and concentrates on lighter reds and a spectrum of aromatic whites. The wine, beer and cocktail list evolves as quickly as chef An’s menu, spanning a range of old and new world styles, with a special focus on the best of British Columbia.

So I have heard about your restaurant for a while but have just had the pleasure of trying it out and LOVED IT. I have tried almost all Thai Food - Sala Thai in downtown, Leila Thai in white rock and all the Thai house but my favourite has been Chada Thai in Coquitlam - I do have to say this just maybe topped that in my books. Great seafood selection - knowledged staff that was really appreciated. Quick services - AND AMAZING FOOD. Will be back soon - we are organizing a work diner and Maenam was selected. CANNOT WAIT.

Maenam is one of our regular favourite spots. Food is fantastic, service is great. Not a cheap place but the variety and freshness make up for it. Even though we have favourites we tend to order the Chef's Menu, it exposes us to dishes we would not otherwise try and always contains some favourites along with new tastes. Make sure you make reservations, this is a very busy and popular spot every night of the week. Try the Salmon salad, amazing flavours! And the Pad Thai is terrific, not the usual Tomato Ketchup and noodles you find in a lot of places (and that some people prefer but we like the way Maenam does it)

Tried this place for the first time on Monday night and I was blown away by the flavour of the food. Really great fusion Thai. The space is really nice inside, just a bit on the louder side. (But that just means you have to lean in a bit closer)

My husband and I had a wonderful evening at Maenam celebrating our wedding anniversary. The service was great, the cocktails amazing and the food spectacular! The only thing I would say was it was very warm in the restaurant and perhaps a shade loud, but it had a nice vibrant feel to the place.

Good food, but it is too noisy, noise level like in a pub. This is not very traditional Thai food, more like fusion Thai food. We order Royal King 9 courses, very nice sauces go with different dish; but definitely not Royal King dishes, it's more like western fusion Thai food

I brought some friends from New York to Maenam and they were highly impressed - it shows off Vancouver's food scene well! As usual, the food and cocktails were wonderful and the service was friendly and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed the squid salad special they had on that night - light and fragrant with tender, meaty squid.

Went for an early dinner pre Bard on the Beach. The food was excellent, but quite spicy (which I like). The three of us shared two appies, two mains and rice. The eight spice ling cod was excellent, moist and full of flavour as were the prawns wrapped in Betel leaves. Service was quick, friendly and courteous. The sound level was low enough that we could hear each other speak. Value for money was good, and I would recommend this restaurant for a pre theatre or film meal, or for anyone who enjoys food with Asian flare.

This was our second time dining here, first time was during dine out. The service was amazing. My sister and I were gluten intolerant and my husband had a nut allergy but we wanted to do the chef's tasting menu. The server asked if we wanted the chef to chose and ensure it was all but and gluten free, we said sure! I would highly recommend this, the dishes chosen make sure the meal is balanced and a variety can be sampled. Every dish was amazing and we even got an item not on the menu. I would highly recommend this place and will go back again soon.

Our third visit was once again stellar. Food preparation is simu better than most good Thai restaurants, the style of serving way better. Dishes come in perfect taste combinations and timing is just right so that the meal is spaced rather than dishes served helter skelter. The chefs menu was the best. Our server a delight knowledgable but reserved.

Maenam is becoming a regular place for us. We find the food a party for your mouth as the flavours are so well developed, fresh and, sometimes surprising. A new find for us was the Salmon Salad, a ten out of ten. We tend to order the Chef's Menu of five items as it introduces us to new flavours and dishes we would not have the nerve or knowledge to order on our own. Service was bright, cheerful, efficient and friendly even though the place was packed. Great place. Make reservations as the place is always busy.

We got a great tip to try Maenam and we were wowed. Food is excellent -- fresh, great spicing, wonderful use of fresh herbs. Service is sweet and attentive and the wine list has some excellent choices. The place was jumping on a Sunday night, with families and two-somes mingled in a nice and not too noisy hubbub. Highly recommend it -- and make a reservation.

Love almost everything about Maenam. Food, service, ambience, is fantastic. I'm a frequent diner out, and a long-time customer who spends a good dollar in this restaurant. A phone call in advance of my reservation telling me that I had to be finished dinner in 1-1/2 really put my girlfriend and I off. We almost canceled. Even though food comes quickly and we were told politely, telling a couple trying to enjoy a nice Saturday evening out they only have an hour and a half to do so, put the only bad taste of the night in my mouth! I understand the motivation for the call/policy, but might you expand this to 2 hours or address diners that are lingering, not eating or drinking, specifically?

We have been take out customers for a while and decided to try the restaurant, were a bit worried about comments on poor service, haughty servers and such but found the opposite, friendly service, quick service and really great food. Try the fixed menu and get exposed to some dishes you would not normally order. Lots of great flavours and excellent presentations. We enjoyed ourselves.

  • Royal Dinner not Worth the Money

    Dined on 6/12/2014
We ordered the 9 course Royal Thai Dinner after asking the server about it. He said that since it was our first time at Maenam, it would be the best way for us to experience the menu. As foodies, we were game to try almost anything the kitchen delivered to us. Overall, the food was good but not exceptional nor was it worth the money. We don't think any of the dishes were on the main menu...so we really did not experience the menu. Of the two main course meat (beef and pork ribs) dishes, the sauces for too similar and the beef was extremely fatty. To our surprise, desert was not included with the meal. The server seemed upset when we didn't order any desert and quickly brought us the bill. We would not recommend Maenam.

I always enjoy coming here for lunch. Because lunch is the only time they serve Stir fried beef with holy basil. This is easily my fave dish here and I cannot recommend it enough. I've dined at Maenam four times. The first and third times the food was uniformly excellent and unique. The second time, some of the dishes were very well done while others pretty well tasted alike and were uninspired. My last experience was that the food, with the exception of one dish, was mediocre. The "Chef's Menu" a prix fixe selection seemed randomly selected on that visit. Dishes were not paired or sequenced well. Most of the dishes could have used more vegetables.

We had the 9 dish Royal Thai dinner for 3. Appies were fresh, original, flavourful and nicely presented. The chef seemed run out of ideas on the final course, with 2 near identical stir frys being served, but overall the food was excellent. Seating is tight, noise volume is high. Patrons mostly affluent westsiders, many on dates, generating an "in-crowd" happening vibe. Our waitress was pleasant but seemed distracted and messed up a couple of drink orders, but the rest of the food service team delivered the dishes with nicely paced efficiency. The wine list is adequate for this type of venue. We had a good time and will go back.

I appreciated having the opportunity to make a reservation on line. The number of items on the menu were a good amount. Overall it was a pleasant experience although somewhat difficult to hear over the noise. The food was served quite promptly and the staff were pleasant, although perhaps stretched a bit too thin. The soup was lovely with distinct flavours, the Green Papaya Salad was good but could have benefited from a bit stronger flavour. We were somewhat disappointed in the satay and the Pad Thai. However, overall, I think it's a pretty perfect fit for the Kits atmosphere.
