  • We had lamb and fish dishes

We had lamb and fish dishes and both were overly salted. The decor and atmosphere are lovely but the food needs to improve if Maemi is to compete with other better Peruvian restaurants in Sarasota.

The food was good and well suited for this part of Florida, with a interational clientele. The dishes we shared were well prepared, hot and appropriatly sized for 2 (Couldn't have eaten them by myself). There is significant competion in the neighborhood for Peruvian/Latin American food and Maemi will need to find a way to differentiate itself.

The owners did a cute job decorating the restaurant--colorful, woven tablecloths and Peruvian decorative accessories. The food was very, very good. My partner had the steak, and I had sauteed fish topped with seafood--"macho," it was called. Delicious. The waiter did not have a good command of the language but could be understood. He was on the floor by himself, and, oddly, we suspected he was also doing the cooking. Or maybe there was someone else in the back; we couldn't be sure. Whatever, he seemed gracious but harried. We'll definitely return to this place. It was simple and terrific.
