Diner Reviews
  • "My party of two was shown to tiny table cramped in a corner. When we asked for one of the many available booths, our hostess informed us they were all reserved and that we had to specifically request. We did get a table/ booth combo in the less scenic part of restaurant. When we finished an hour and a half later, there were still booths available. Very disappointing. Our actual server was great! Super friendly and warm which was an unexpected surprise because the other time I dined here, it was not the case. The truffle macaroni is a must try! I had ribeye, my husband had the meatloaf. Both were very good."

  • "The view from our table was beautiful & the food was amazing! We had a hard time deciding what to order because everything on the menu sounded delicious! Each entree was unique & fresh. And our server was fantastic - as a server & bartender. Great restaurant!"

  • "Madison's staff went out of their way to make our anniversary dinner special - from the table sprinkled with rose petals to the delicious cuisine and superb service."

  • "The overall meal was great. The server Maxine provided outstanding service. The pear salad, carrot/apple soup and sunburst trout were superb. The meatloaf was poor, do not order. We will go back to try other items on the menu."

  • "Fabulous! A delightful and delicious experience! By far, the best restaurant in Highlands/Cashiers area."

  • "Madison's was a great experience. We were celebrating our 44th anniversary and we could not have felt more welcomed. The food and the staff are what makes for the excellence in dining that they achieve. This is a MUST for anyone in or around Highlands NC. We look forward to our next visit."

  • "We celebrated our 30 yr anniversary at Madison's. The team greeted us and had rose petals on the table. Very nice touch. We ordered a steak and sea bass to share. The steak was over cooked but the fish was fresh and delicious. The truffled Mac and cheese was the best. Dessert was a chocolate soufflé with honey and chocolate chip ice cream. The chef wrote happy anniversary for a nice presentation at the table. The entire experience was nice and cozy."

  • "The food is very good but the service and setting tops it. we always enjoy our meals at Madison's. have been many times."

  • "Food was excellent. Lamb chops were rare instead of medium rare, but still tasted great."

  • "Excellent. Best restaurant in the NC mountains. Went for wedding anniversary. Well presented and imaginative use of farm to market foods."

  • "The fish was very fresh and prepared perfectly. The filet was good beautifully and was a great cut of meat. Service, wine, and food were excellent. Very attentive and answered all questions."

  • "Food just average; service slow to non-existent. I had the strangest Reuben sandwich I've ever had anywhere. Three requests for ice for the iced tea went unanswered. Also had the strangest pecan pie, which my wife and I shared. We both love good pecan pie, but could not even eat this one. The restaurant is comfortable but it and the hotel is in are old and tired. The place is living on its reputation, which suffered badly for this diner!"

  • "Madison's is my new favorite place for dinner in the mountains! Lunches at Madison's are good, but this was my first dinner experience. The staff was extremely attentive from the moment we walked in the door, especially our waiter, Gani. The ambience is elegant, but still comfortable. The food was excellent! The roasted pear salad was creative and delicious. The chicken and dumplings had chicken so tender you could cut it with a fork. Others in my group had the lamb, the fish special and the duck. Every item cooked to perfection. I was disappointed in my cold bread pudding dessert, but the cherry soufflé and peach cobbler were winners. I cannot wait to eat dinner at Madison's again."

  • "We were joined by 4 friends at Madison's and we were not disappointed. Exceptional service, delicious dining and reasonable cost. How could one ask for more? My Butternut squash soup was superb. I followed this with Osso Bucco that was so tender there was no need for a knife. My wife had chicken and dumplings but it was not like any we'd ever had before. Delicious. The dumplings were sweet potato gnocchi. The others had duck, steak another chicken dish and the halibut-mahi mahi special. "

  • "We took our daughter and her boyfriend to Madison's to celebrate a special occasion, and the dinner created a memorable evening for all. The staff is friendly, efficient, of no pretense, and they gave us the impression that we were appreciated. My daughter is a vegan with food allergies, and the chef created a special meal for her. We have eaten at Madison's several times, and I would highly recommend it!"

  • "From the moment we arrived our experience could not have been better. The atmosphere and staff were perfect and the food was beyond expectations. An incredible finish to a perfect weekend at the Inn. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Venison was a tad too salty and slightly over cooked, having asked for it to be the Chefs recommendation for temperature. My husband had the Osso Bucco with sweetbreads and said the sauce was unflavorful. Caesar Salad was meh with the croutons on the side of the plate that were technically not croutons, just a few slices of toasted baquette with no flavor. The service was great though. The menu over promised and under delivered."

  • "Madison's is an experience, not simply a meal. From the moment you enter, you feel special and pampered. At a recent trip to Highlands, we had breakfast, lunch and dinner there. Every meal was exceptional and visually stunning. Request a table by the window where you have a beautiful view and plush cushions with plenty of room."

  • "I called ahead to let them know it was a special occasion and they did a wonderful job finding the balance of being available for every whim and leaving us alone at the table. Just an addition to the list of places to go that you feel like you are a million miles away from anywhere. My new favorite in Highlands!"

  • "We have been to the restaurant numerous and so many of those times, we have had a very special experience. One time we had the best Mojitos, always have the best food, and great service. Tonight Emily made our experience extra special helping with vegan/vegetarian menu choices for my wife and by ensuring our entire experience was fantastic. We will keep coming back!"

  • "At the end of our meal the server seemed o have forgotten us. We had to ask for after dinner drinks, and even after one ordered she started to leave and we had to call her back to put in the second drink order. She started the evening out very attentive but sloppy at the end. Also coffee got cold and wanted a top off and again did not see her for 10-15 min."

  • "Madison's is truly fine restaurant with an outstanding chef and a white glove front of the room service. One would never expect such a dining establishment in Western NC as it would match quality with the best in NYC."

  • "Went up over MLK weekend and there were not many options for dinner, Madison's was one and only had an option for 9 pm reservations. Expecting it to be full, but it was PACKED. Obviously, this is a neighborhood favorite. Food was delicious with "trendy" takes on traditional foods. Among those at our table we had the trout, meat loaf, hangar steak, and osso bucco. Felt that the portion size was spot on. Also ended with a souffle which was a highlight of the meal. Prices were normal for a "nice" restaurant, but wish the wine list had a little more variety (majority of wines were priced at $50+ a bottle). Overall, we were extremely impressed with the restaurant and will return on our next trip."
