The lady who normally greeted me at the entry to lead us to our table was not there - service seems to have gone down a notch since she has left (or perhaps she is simply on vacation)"

One person had the clams appetizer and it was huge enough to feed all four of us, probably 40 - 50 clams on the plate they were completely overwhelmed by the size for an appetizer."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 20th Anniversary with a fantastic dinner last Monday night at Madison's. We had a fantastic bottle of wine and accompanied this with there feature stripling with blue cheese. My wife had the Seafood wrap chicken breast. She loved it and it was a fantastic evening."

We were a party of six, all of us well versed in the dining scene in Edmonton and with somewhat high expectations. We found that our meals were on the small side, considering the price, with little embellishment of the plates. However, everything tasted very good but not outstanding. Our waiter was quite pushy, interrupting our quiet conversation instead of waiting for a pause. We found the wine glasses very oversized and since we tried three different bottles of wine, the table became quite crowded. I think that we might wait awhile before coming again."

  • "My husband and I had reservations at Madison's Grill for Mother's Day (I was a guest at the hotel for the next 5 nights, my husband drove me from Calgary for us to have a special evening at Madison's and the Union Bank Inn). We arrived at 6:30, ordered our food from the 'special' menu arranged for Mother's Day, and were not served our main courses until after 8:00 p.m. Several apologies were made about this terrible service, but no attempt to comp any items from our substantially large bill. The food and ambience was good, but waiting so long for our meals ruined what was supposed to be a special occasion for my husband and me."

There was a lack of dressing (so salad was a bit bland) and the grilled chicken provided was awfully dry. I only ate about half the chicken, and a quarter of the salad. Would not recommend this salad."

  • "I always want to like Madison's but each time I go I am disappointed. Had the dining week option as none of the a la carte menu seemed original. Had the seared scallop salad to start; scallops were well cooked but bland, acidity from the apples was toned down. Salmon and prawns main was equally uninspired; scallops had the most flavour of anything tasted this evening. Even the chocolate torte didn't blow me away, although the texture and consistency was excellent. I find that for the price I should get a solid, if not spectacular meal. Equivalent prices in LA or San Francisco would yield Michelin rated restaurants. Service was very good and definitely the highlight of the evening."

  • "From start to finish our meals at Madison's were disappointing. The service was however excellent and Todd was amazing! I don't think I will return or recommend Madison's. My boyfriend and my self are both chefs so we know about food. We specifically chose Madison's Grill because of the rave reviews in all sorts of publications and the menu sounded amazing. The steak tar tar was not made with tenderloin and had silver skin and marbling in it. The caesar salad was the quality I would expect at an IHOP. The sea bass smelled so fishy by the time it got to the table we knew that it shouldn't have even been cooked as it was going off. The sticky toffee mini torte was ok but falling apart and was dry. Not the quality we were charged for."

  • "What used to be a culinary delight now struggles to impress with sub-par food and lack-lustre service. The service issue was due to one server in particular - I noticed other servers were more attentive and what I would expect from a fine dining establishment. Fish entrée was lacking in flavor - completely bland. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert was terrible. Not dense and moist as a pudding should be but dry and crumbly. The caramel was not even warm. Pitiful for a $12 dessert."

We arrived for an early lunch, and a good thing too, because we were able to establish a rapport before the noise level rose alarmingly after 11:30 am. When I made my reservation, I specifically asked for a quiet table to make an intelligent and intelligible conversation amongst five people easier. I am glad I did. Food was fine and prompt service ensured it came on time to get everyone out the door in a timely manner. I had to refill our glasses myself, so no bonus points for attentive service though."

  • "It is certainly not a place that my wife and I could afford to go to often, the tab for 2 of us was just over $300. That being said, the portions (not huge) were a delight for all of the sences. Taste, presentation and aroma were all first rate. The main course, Elk tenderloin, had to be some of the finest meat I have ever had. The service was available, but not too intrusive, and the ambience was elegant. Definately a recommendation for a romantic dinner for two."
