It was a vibrant restaurant with some of the best interior decor around. Just thought that we could not find that extra Michelin oompf. There was nothing bad but also little of the wow factor.

The location, decor, ambiance, bar, dining and staff were all excellent. We had a very comfortable feeling there. I am sorry to say the menu was a little short and the food was not quality. The chef cooked well, but the steak was tough and not a good quality. I think if you could improve on the menu a bit and a few more choices, you could have a real hit.

Anachronism in dining is there is one: an awkward blend of the decor which should have long been in mothballs, over the top service, and fairly modern cuisine. Very strange.

The room was cold, so the waiter recommended a different table. Sadly the room was so unbearably cold, I had to order a hot cup of tea in the middle of my corse's to try and warm up!! The wait staff were trying to be as attentife as possible. We rushed though our dinner just to get out!! The food was very good.

I had a wonderful experience! Everyone was extremely friendly and made me feel right at home...I was dining alone while I waited for a friend in a meeting and the staff made me feel like I wasn't alone at all. I really appreciate the simple conversation the wait staff had with me. My lunch was delicious and I was treated like a princess...a great last bit of NY before my flight home to Texas.

Every item that came to the table was extremely over-salted. I was horrified and embarrassed for my guest. There is scaffolding around all the windows. I had requested a table near a window when I made the reservation. No one acknowledged my request, no one bothered to tell me about the scaffolding. I will never return.

My wife and I had dinner here last week and we were totally blown away by the entire evening. We often dine at upscale restaurants, but this spot was very very special. First of all the restaurant is gorgeous. It is a totally refurbished dining room from a NYC mansion built in the 1880s, complete with a beautiful cathedral ceiling. The service was excellent and my meal of steak tartare followed by the squab was outstanding and it was beautifully presented. This is one of the finest dining experiences that we have enjoyed in New York and we will definitely return. This restaurant was not inexpensive, but it was worth the price.

Food: Perfect for someone with a discerning palate, able to appreciate unusual combinations of subtle flavors. High level of artistry on the part of the chefs. Dish after dish, our comment was: "I never tasted anything like this." Presentation of food was beautiful. Service: Remarkable. We had no fewer than six people waiting on us (a party of two) throughout the meal. Water glasses were always kept full; dishes brought and removed exactly at the right time; waiters and servers were all very professional, considerate, and appropriately friendly. Footnote: I like the way Gilt handles sparkling water: they charged us $10 total and refilled our glasses continually throughout the meal (party of two).

Guilty of being Overrated. While the food presentation was nice, the food itself was unmemorable and unexceptional. Nothing popped. The portions were VERY small, compared to portions at Eleven Madison, Daniel, Per Se, Jean Georges, Le Bernardin, or La Grenouille. The diction of the waiters who spoke English (because not all did) was so poor I never understood what they were saying when they were explaining each course as it arrived during the meal. The original building is quite spectacular! The ceilings, floors, wall mosaics, wow! However, the modern furniture in the bar and dining room make no sense and does not work with the room. An example of where mixing old world elegance with modern is the Adour at the St.Regis in Washington, DC.

Worth every penny! I was taken back by all the suit wearing professional people in the entrance, as I was dressed in bright and trendy purple outfit. However, the hostess who took our umbrellas made me feel super comfortable, assuring me that I looked beautiful. The bar and dinning room is spectacular. The wine list is huge. The food was amazing. I am a picky eater however there was nothing I couldn't eat or didn't like. The food service was absolute perfection! If you want a great New York restaurant experience definitely put gilt on your agenda.

Fabulous dining experience with one sour note. My reservation included a note re: dinner being a birthday celebration. Waiter welcomed me by name and wished my friend a happy birthday. The wine list had an incredible selection. We opted for the seven course menu. Each course delivered complex flavors and a variety of textures. The food presentation, pace of the meal, and service were all exceptional. Favorite dishes: lamb with ricotta sheet, halibut, and strawberry rhubarb dessert. The sour note was set when the hostess asked whether we were redeeming a coupon for our meal.

I was on holidays in NYC with my husband, we decided to dine at Gilt to celebrate our anniversary, it was the perfect choice. The venue, food, & service were all top notch. It is a bit pricey at approx $126/person without alcohol for the 5 course tasting menu. But I do recommend the tasting menu to sample a bit of everything, and it's not too much food. I'd definitely go to Gilt again for a special occasion next time I'm in NYC.

I was reluctant to dine at a restaurant named "Gilt." It's presumptuous and, by definition, superficial: a gold overlay on base materials. The restaurant was excellent in every way. Chef Justin Bogle justly deserves the Michelin stars he has earned by virtue of his unique and exquisite culinary creations. A single plump mussel sat in an edible shell he’d concocted from cracker crumbs and colored with squid ink; a salad of root vegetables with gorgonzola cheese was plated with “earth” made from mushrooms. The palate cleanser of cucumber juice and elder flower was served in a miniature snifter. Dry-aged squab was accompanied by tiny turnips and Jerusalem artichokes. Bogle dry-ages fowl and beef himself; inventive, both in the choice of food combinations and presentation, he always features flavor first. This chef ranks high on the elite roster of gastronomic wizards. Our lips are still smacking!

We tried the 5-course dinner. Fresh baked pre-dinner rolls and pastries - various flavors like mint, figs, apple etc. which were very unique. They tasted delicious too. My date needed quite a few of the baked rolls and pastries to feel substantial as dishes were overall very prettily arranged but small in portion. I especially love the confectionery offered at the end of the meal. They were sweets in mouth-size and came in 8 different flavors. I tried them all. They are not a good choice if you are watching your calories intake. It was a good experience for us.
