  • Very disappointing Saturday Night!

We have eaten here several times and have had wonderful food and service. Saturday night we invited our friends from out of town to join us for dinner (6 guests) and four of us ordered the poached salmon which was the worst salmon I have ever eaten. None of us could even eat 1/3 of the salmon served, it had no flavor, it was mushy. I have to be honest I could not recommend this place right now. In addition the menu was very limited.

We just had a lovely wedding anniversary dinner here, sitting outside on the deck on a warm evening. We started with a simple but elegant mixed green salad, then shared Atlantic Cod, which was marvelous. The "black, berry, lemon" dessert (cassis sorbet, devil's food, blackberries, black cocoa, creme fraiche) was a perfect ending to a lovely evening. Superb service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. )

Went for lunch after a rather disappointing dinner there a couple of months ago. They have great cocktails. And sitting outside on the terrace is definitely the way to go. So much more pleasant. This time I had the pork cheek and it was nicely done. I had previously had the braised short ribs and it was excellent too. So my conclusion is that meat dishes are much better than fish at this restaurant.

Madera is wonderful! Our dinner was tasty with an interesting presentation. Wine list is exceptional and the cocktails are always a special treat! Since it is end of summer, we enjoyed the outdoor dining on the terrace overlooking the foothills at sunset! The temperature drops now, but the heat lamps provide comfort. A friend hosted my birthday lunch on the terrace too in June, and we enjoyed the soft shelled crabs! Thank you, Chef Peter!

The Lunch Menu is limited but diverse and full of great choices. I had the heirloom tomato salad for starters and it was quite tasty. Then I had the pork cheeks in a balsamic reduction. Delicious. But make sure to leave room for desert. Madera really shines on its desert menu. Great place to have a business lunch. Not cheap but really a nice experience. Can't beat the view or the location.

Sat outside and had to contend with Yellow jacket bee and my dinner partner is allergic to bees. Wine service impeccable except waitperson was slow to refill glass. Shrimp cocktail had slight taste usually associated with less than fresh Gnocchi were cooked too long and tasted mushy. Salmon and Lamb were tasty and along with Champagne were the high points of meal.

My family has a running joke that Yelp ranks Madera 3.5 stars. Madera truly stands out in service and food including a dessert that is best described as Hawaiian lava. The Bon bons alone are worth a visit. Few restaurants are worthy of five stars. Madera has delivered in each of our 5+ visits

Everything about this place is great, except for the food. We had day boat scallops and a curry soup for starters. Both were good, not amazing. We both had the beef - I specifically asked the waiter if it was tender, he said yes. It was fairly tough and way too salty. I don't think the waiters really know much about the food. The wine was great and the sommelier was very helpful. It's a nice environment, and very comfortable chairs. The menu itself is limited, but interesting. I don't mind paying up for great food, but this was not great. So it is way overpriced. Big disappointment for us.

It was very very good with good ambiance - very classy and we enjoyed great service. A critical business dinner, I appreciated that they gave us the corner table by the window. That was nice! The food was pretty good too and although the wine was expensive, it was outstanding.

Had high expectations for a Michelin star restaurant, but the cod was flavorless as was the beef entree. The appetizers were also non-spectacular. The vegetarian options were much more flavorful but at the prices charged, we were sorely disappointed overall and will not be back (at least for dinner)l!

It's a lovely spot - but I feel like there was too much emphasis on trying to be trendy / creative and not enough on taste. For instance the Halibut Crudo appetizer - it was pretty to look at, with interesting little pearls of melon and sea grapes but the dish overall was bland and tasteless. My wife ordered the salmon - it was inedible - it was cooked sous-vide - again very high tech and creative - but led to disgusting texture and she said it just didn't taste good. At our table we also had the steak and duck entree's - they were both just ok - the steak came with pickled mushrooms - which again was just a weird decision and strange taste combination. My advice to the restaurant - calm down on presentation, and focus on taste.

Please do NOT waste your money here. The food was so bad. I sent my parents for their anniversary and they had to send back their food and choked down some of the inedible food just to not make a scene. The lettuce was wilty, there was no seasoning on the food, the salmon was raw.

It was certainly entertaining from a people watching perspective on a Thursday night with the ladies circling outside the bar area like sharks. The food was nothing to write home about and was quite disappointing. My sole was salty and so was the pasta appetizer. I would stick with the bar food, the tuna tartar was very good but again, salty once you reached the bottom of the plate. Also, I would avoid Thursday nights unless you want some entertainment or looking for love in all the wrong places.

The Rosewood is still one of my favorite spots in the Bay Area, but it's lost a bit of sparkle for me on this last visit. Our server was fantastic - quite hilarious, actually. Great service. However, the hosts were disorganized and made an awkward "check-in" & 1st impression for my guests. We (3) all ordered the heirloom tomato appetizer, but the dishes were inconsistent. 1 dish had 2x the tomatoes vs others. 1 dish missing melon balls & pesto sauce. - No fresh-squeezed juice - Disappointed with the basil spaghetti, not flavorful - We didn't go with the server's dessert suggestion, which may explain why it was just "ok" (not excellent) I remembered Madera as a world-class experience, but it didn't live up to my expectations.

I have had lunch and dinner at the Madera and both have been lovely. The setting is relaxing and the pace of the meal is well timed. The food is good depending on what you order. We had the duck and though the skin was crispy the meat was hard to cut. It was tasty and the vegetable along with the dish complemented the duck. The lunch menu has something for everyone and the salads are excellent.

Although my husband thinks it is. Ate outside in lovely weather. A little windy and the sun nice. Thought the freeway was loud but maybe because of the wind direction. Food sophisticated but easy for those dieting. Nothing really hit it out of the park but nothing approaching bad. My husband loves this place for business meetings and for the food so maybe it was just me or a sort of a blah night? I am certainly willing to try again...

I don't know how the restaurant received a Michelin One Star. The service and food was awful. Specifics below. Our reserved table was not ready. In fact we were told that they had no idea when the table would be ready, so we were put in a private room in the back, not by choice. We felt very isolated and forgotten. Our server told us to simply throw something at them if we need to get their attention. The timing between salads and appetizers were way to long. The appetizers were bland. Every main dish had to be sent back. The pasta dishes were overcooked and burned. The steak dishes were either cold or extremely tough and confirmed by the manager The cod fish was dry and vegetables overcooked A special birthday was ruined

Service was exemplary. Menu was unique and everything was nicely prepared. The presentation stood out as excellent. All this in a beautiful facility with a great view. But the location makes it an easy choice. It's right off 280 at Sand Hill Road. There's not much along 280, so this is an easy choice to meet with a combined SF, Peninsula and South Bay group.

I was disappointed with lunch. The food was ordinary and wine by the glass had an exorbitant markup. For the prices charged, I expected higher quality food. The best dish we had was the cannelloni starter - there was one quite small, but excellent avocado crab cannelloni for $18. The dining room itself and the balcony are lovely spaces.

We are not hard to please but this was a bad experience overall. We were about the only diners to check in around 5:30pm. The hostess wanted to sit us in the back, away from the windows. When we asked to be close to the windows she seemed very put out and placed us next to a windy doorway. We asked that the lamb be prepared medium, it came out rare so it was sent back. On dessert, we noticed that one item didn't appear to have dairy and confirmed it with the waiter. It came out in a bowl with cream all on the bottom. We had five different waiters over the course of the meal which we noticed was was occuring with the other tables. No one seemed to remember what we asked for plus they were hard to find as they rotated so much. Not Good!
