  • "We are not hard to please but this was a bad experience overall. We were about the only diners to check in around 5:30pm. The hostess wanted to sit us in the back, away from the windows. When we asked to be close to the windows she seemed very put out and placed us next to a windy doorway. We asked that the lamb be prepared medium, it came out rare so it was sent back. On dessert, we noticed that one item didn't appear to have dairy and confirmed it with the waiter. It came out in a bowl with cream all on the bottom. We had five different waiters over the course of the meal which we noticed was was occuring with the other tables. No one seemed to remember what we asked for plus they were hard to find as they rotated so much. Not Good!"

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 20 year anniversary at Madera. They personalized the menu for us and gave us a special dessert for the occasion. Our waiter Alex could not have been any better. He was so attentive and helpful. He kept our water glasses full and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was AMAZING! The presentation was AMAZING. The Service was AMAZING. What else can I say?"

Grilled cheese was bland. Other had the eggs benedict with crab cake, which seemed to be better. Was a disappointing experience -- bummer."

  • "This was our 5th dinner at Madera this year. We are always excited to see the new items on an already creative menu. The amuse bouche is always a nice surprise,the last one being a pico de gallo consomme. We ordered scallops crudo and lamb rib eye. W have never had either one before and both were absolutely delicious. For dessert We have ordered the beignets 3 times and still think about them at home. They are rolled in cardamon and sugar and served with quince sauce and honey. We always order vanilla ice cream too! It's a good idea to order them at the beginning of the meal as they take about 15 minutes to make The service is lovely and the waiters are very knowledgeable about wine pairing. We're looking forward to our next dinner!!"

  • "I had been here for lunch before and liked it. Have been wanting to go for dinner. Considering that this is a Michelin starred restaurant, the food was very disappointing. May be they were awarded the Michelin star based on the excellent extensive wine list, which is indeed impressive. But the food was bland and my halibut was overcooked. The presentation of the food was gorgeous but that's form over substance."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant brunch at the Rosewood. We sat on the patio with a beautiful view of the surrounding hills. It was slightly chilly and the attentive server noticed and immediately offered to turn on the overhead heat. It was a lovely day with superb service. My wife has a number of food allergies and the staff was very considerate of her special needs and made sure her meal was properly prepared. I enjoyed a rare treat of fried eggs, bacon, wheat toast, and breakfast potatoes. Since I am a health nut I enjoy this feast maybe once a year. It was FANTASTIC."

Limited menu, the appetiser was good but the main dish '"salmon" was like an appetizer with little or no garnish. The server must have been a graduate of the "Olive Garden". He never explain anything and while we did not have dessert because it was cold and he never asked if he should turn on the heater. We went in the bar had dessert and the service was outstanding! Recommend bar and stay out of the main dinning room unless you like poor service and over priced food!"

  • "This was an anniversary lunch. Our table for two was next to the door to the patio with constant movement of service people rushing to and from the patio. Not a good place for a table at all. We waited too long to place our order with the waiter. After the appetizers arrived we waited over 40 minutes for the main course to arrive. My wife's burger was mediocre and my Caesar salad dish was ok. The prawns on the salad were not consistently seared, some were almost burnt and some underdone. Not a great experience at all."

I have remembered it fondly many times. The dessert was a bit disappointing - a lot going frilliness on the plate, but short on taste. But overall, I love Madera, for either breakfast, lunch or dinner. So glad that such a fine restaurant is so close to where I live."

  • " While Mdera's menu consists of many offerings that are not typical for a restaurant, once each member of my party found something that he/she would like lunch was very good and the service was outstanding. We ordered the most basic items offered and enjoyed the prawns appetizer as well as chicken Caesar salad, Cobb salad, and cheese burger. While several diners at my table desired a desert no one was able to find something on the menu that was tempting. The hillside view from Madera is terrific and the overall dining experience is most positive. This is an expensive restaurant that I will not dine at often, but it is a good choice for special occasions."

Service was excellent. When we asked the waiter if we could wait a bit before the next course, they waited just the right amount of time. And you do not feel like its a hotel restaurant at all. "

  • "We eat first with our eyes. My cobb salad looked okay but it should have looked great…and tasted even better!.the head lettuce was almost the same color as the white meat chicken and feta cheese. The greenest thing in the salad was the Avocado which was placed on top like a garnish. Waiter did not come back until he came to clear our plates. Dessert was outstanding and every bite was enjoyed. "Eat dessert first" skip the rest. The lovely surroundings do not make up for the inconsistent food coming from the kitchen. "

  • "My husband and I enjoy a special night out now and again and we don't mind paying for it. However, our recent trip to Madera was extremely disappointing. The over the top prices for extremely small portioned, mediocre food which we waited 90 minutes for. My husband's mushroom pasta which cost $34 was about a half a cup portion ( this was entrée portion). The environment was nice but didn't over shadow the long wait, high prices and food. This was our first and last time at Madera. "

  • "The overly pricey menu (and wow! the wine prices!) does not quite overwhelm the fact that the dining room and outdoor deck reveal a spectacular ambiance and view. Plates at lunch were tiny, but again, the view takes over when looking across the vast expanse of hills and trees. You won't gain much weight here, but maybe that too is a plus."
