The dining area was noisier than expected and cooler as well due to proximity to the open door to the patio. The service was outstanding with items arriving as they were needed. The food was very good but the vegetarian options weren't too imaginative.

2 friends and I enjoyed lunch on the outdoor terrace on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The setting was great but the menu was limited. Two of us had the beet salad and were disappointed that it was very small (even though we are small diners), and it only had red beets and no lettuce -- in contrast to beet salads in other local restaurants where there are a variety of different colored beets in the salad, along with lettuce and other garnishes. The service was good.

Great food and service that exceeds expectations! Their attention to detail was really top-notch -- a black napkin for my boyfriend, not removing his plate until I was also done eating, the presentation of the meal, etc. The food was delicious. I ordered the pumpkin soup and halibut.

The noise level was intolerable. The four of us couldn't talk without shouting. We were seated next to the kitchen, but I suspect the sound was equally as unendurable throughout the restaurant. We might have done better sitting outdoors.

We had reservations for 5:30 and we were seated and it took about 15 minutes before anyone approached us. . When I asked why it took so long, I was told that they have a staff meeting from 5:00 til 5:30. . Well maybe they shouldn't take reservations until 5:45 or 6:00. . over all not a wonderful experience. .

Vibe is ritzy and classy. Food is excellent, hence 5 stars) and they take care of your special dietary needs. But on the whole, staff attitude is a bit over the top. We asked them to get a couple apps started for us quickly and were told the chef needs to see the whole dinner order before firing anything for the table. The waiter kept pressing on this and so did we. Accommodate your customers, please.

The menu here is replete with interesting creations and clever, tasty variations on well known choices. The portions are appropriate for a meal that includes appetizer, entree and dessert, but those hoping to feel full after just one course will be disappointed. The preparation and presentation are excellent, and the desserts are more unusual than the typical selection elsewhere. The large room can become noisy if it is completely full with diners, so unless you want to be outside, it is not particularly intimate.

We had a wonderful time here. The food, service, and wait staff were outstanding. My husband ate the sea scallops and the snapper, which he said were delicious. I had the tomato tart and the lamb -- very tasty. They knew it was our anniversary so they made an effort to be gracious at every turn. The beignets were great.

Went there on a Friday night and nothing on the menu looked good, so we asked if we could order from the bar menu. A look of horror and fright came over our waitresses face, since she would have to ask the chef. She had to go back to the kitchen several times to see if our request could be granted and she prevailed. She arrived with our food. It was good but not worth the drama just to buy dinner there. Go to the bar and skip the chefs attitude in the dining room(which wasn't full on a weekend evening). Madera: get a better menu.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, but it is very difficult hear and to carry on an ordinary conversation. We found ourselves having to raise our voices at our table just to hear each other. Also, after explaining to our waitress that we needed to be finished with lunch and the birthday cake we brought in an hour and a half, she continued to be unusually slow - despite several reminders - and I ended up having to leave before the birthdday celebration was done. She was remarkably insensitive and inefficient.

We have eaten here several times and have had wonderful food and service. Saturday night we invited our friends from out of town to join us for dinner (6 guests) and four of us ordered the poached salmon which was the worst salmon I have ever eaten. None of us could even eat 1/3 of the salmon served, it had no flavor, it was mushy. I have to be honest I could not recommend this place right now. In addition the menu was very limited.

We just had a lovely wedding anniversary dinner here, sitting outside on the deck on a warm evening. We started with a simple but elegant mixed green salad, then shared Atlantic Cod, which was marvelous. The "black, berry, lemon" dessert (cassis sorbet, devil's food, blackberries, black cocoa, creme fraiche) was a perfect ending to a lovely evening. Superb service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. )

Went for lunch after a rather disappointing dinner there a couple of months ago. They have great cocktails. And sitting outside on the terrace is definitely the way to go. So much more pleasant. This time I had the pork cheek and it was nicely done. I had previously had the braised short ribs and it was excellent too. So my conclusion is that meat dishes are much better than fish at this restaurant.

Madera is wonderful! Our dinner was tasty with an interesting presentation. Wine list is exceptional and the cocktails are always a special treat! Since it is end of summer, we enjoyed the outdoor dining on the terrace overlooking the foothills at sunset! The temperature drops now, but the heat lamps provide comfort. A friend hosted my birthday lunch on the terrace too in June, and we enjoyed the soft shelled crabs! Thank you, Chef Peter!

The Lunch Menu is limited but diverse and full of great choices. I had the heirloom tomato salad for starters and it was quite tasty. Then I had the pork cheeks in a balsamic reduction. Delicious. But make sure to leave room for desert. Madera really shines on its desert menu. Great place to have a business lunch. Not cheap but really a nice experience. Everything about this place is great, except for the food. We had day boat scallops and a curry soup for starters. Both were good, not amazing. We both had the beef - I specifically asked the waiter if it was tender, he said yes. It was fairly tough and way too salty. I don't think the waiters really know much about the food. The wine was great and the sommelier was very helpful. It's a nice environment, and very comfortable chairs. The menu itself is limited, but interesting. I don't mind paying up for great food, but this was not great. So it is way overpriced. Big disappointment for us.

Had high expectations for a Michelin star restaurant, but the cod was flavorless as was the beef entree. The appetizers were also non-spectacular. It's a lovely spot - but I feel like there was too much emphasis on trying to be trendy / creative and not enough on taste. For instance the Halibut Crudo appetizer - it was pretty to look at, with interesting little pearls of melon and sea grapes but the dish overall was bland and tasteless. My wife ordered the salmon - it was inedible - it was cooked sous-vide - again very high tech and creative - but led to disgusting texture and she said it just didn't taste good. At our table we also had the steak and duck entree's - they were both just ok - the steak came with pickled mushrooms - which again was just a weird decision and strange taste combination. My advice to the restaurant - calm down on presentation, and focus on taste.

Please do NOT waste your money here. The food was so bad. I sent my parents for their anniversary and they had to send back their food and choked down some of the inedible food just to not make a scene. The lettuce was wilty, there was no seasoning on the food, the salmon was raw.

It was certainly entertaining from a people watching perspective on a Thursday night with the ladies circling outside the bar area like sharks. The food was nothing to write home about and was quite disappointing. My sole was salty and so was the pasta appetizer. I would stick with the bar food, the tuna tartar was very good but again, salty once you reached the bottom of the plate. Also, I would avoid Thursday nights unless you want some entertainment or looking for love in all the wrong places.

The Rosewood is still one of my favorite spots in the Bay Area, but it's lost a bit of sparkle for me on this last visit. Our server was fantastic - quite hilarious, actually. Great service. However, the hosts were disorganized and made an awkward "check-in" & 1st impression for my guests. We (3) all ordered the heirloom tomato appetizer, but the dishes were inconsistent. 1 dish had 2x the tomatoes vs others. 1 dish missing melon balls & pesto sauce. - No fresh-squeezed juice - Disappointed with the basil spaghetti, not flavorful - We didn't go with the server's dessert suggestion, which may explain why it was just "ok" (not excellent) I remembered Madera as a world-class experience, but it didn't live up to my expectations.

I have had lunch and dinner at the Madera and both have been lovely. The setting is relaxing and the pace of the meal is well timed. The food is good depending on what you order. We had the duck and though the skin was crispy the meat was hard to cut. It was tasty and the vegetable along with the dish complemented the duck. The lunch menu has something for everyone and the salads are excellent.
