We dined at Madeline Garden, with high hopes. The restaurant itself is lavishly decorated with several different dining rooms, each with its own theme. The service was eager but inexperienced. The food, which sounded good, was disappointing. The fish dish that I had was way too salty and the risotto too mushy. For the prices on the menu, I expected food that would be more expertly prepared. Overall, we will not be back.

Ok, this place has a wonderful setting and great food. We entered the garden setting, and there was a harpist entertaining the small groups of diners. However, we toured the place, and it's beautiful on the inside too! We found there was a cool bar, which was empty, and a great room for karaoke, but no customers! I hope people will start to come for the fun atmosphere, or this place may not make it. The bartender had nothing to do, so he was in the dining area, making sure all the guests had drinks and giving generous pours of wine (and great suggestions too!). The only reason for 3 stars on service was our waiter, who was too new to be able to answer our menu questions. He was inexperienced, but tried very hard, and I'm sure he'll improve

It's unique places like this that I hope make it. Went hear for my fiancee's birthday and immediately we were entranced by the romantic patio setting with a violinist playing throughout the night! The host/manager came to give us a tour of the various rooms - each gorgeous with an old world European lush character. Service was more than attentive throughout the night - waiters took pictures of us, gave our requests to the violinists, and they even let us sing a few songs in their karaoke room even though it isn't officially open yet. Food is delicious, particularly their endive and cranberry salad which was fresh and tasty. We plan to come back for high tea. I could see a bridal shower there. The place is special, go!

My husband and I enjoyed the dinner. Entree took long but we didn't mind because we enjoyed the live music. Manager offered 2 free desserts due to wait. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Atmosphere made us feel relaxed.

My husband and I dined at Madeline Garden on June 6, 2014. This was our second time dining here. Once again, the ambiance was romantic and nice. We opted to sit in the formal dining room and were the only couple dining in there on a Friday night. The food this time around was subpar. My husband had the lobster risotto and escargot appetizer. The top portion of the lobster was overcooked and chewy and the risotto bland. His escargot needed more drawn butter which took two requests and 15 minutes to arrive. I had the cod dish which was served in a broth with shrimp (overcooked), clams, and mussels. The fish was prepared nicely but the shrimp was way overcooked. The service was lacking as my husband's cocktail took 20 min. to arrive.

My waiter Perry was the best thing about this place. He was very accommodating and friendly. Looking around it didn't look like many of the other servers were the same way. The food was good for a limited Mother's Day menu. Very cute venue. Perfect for special occasion high tea.

The restaurant is beautifully housed in a historic Pasadena building. The food was excellent & the owner was kind & generous. It's a shame more people haven't discovered Madeline's yet. I was particularly pleased to find a variety of vegetarian dishes & they even have a vegetarian High Tea. The owner takes great care in the decor & ambience & is conscientious about the menu she has created. My friend & I had a lovely time. It's was great fun, delicious & an unexpected treat. If your in a hurry you will miss the wonderful & luxuriating experience you could have.

this restaurant is not ready for prime time. although the food was generally good, the service was disorganized, slow, forgetful, and random. no one on the staff was willing to admit being there for more than a week. it showed. our party of five was massively disappointed that there was no wine available. this was not obvious on the restaurant web site. there was an accordion player who was talented and congenial, but not a great fit with the setting. the fact that our dinner was on valentine's day may have exacerbated some of these problems, but really, there are parties of odd numbers.

The restaurant had an interesting makeover in their décor. We had eaten at the restaurant under previous management. The food was average and the overall experience not as desirable or enjoyable as we thought. We are not likely to go there again. The restaurant is managed by a Chinese couple who are trying to serve quasi French food.

Madeline Garden is gorgeous and romantic. Beautiful European decor with multiple unique rooms and two outdoor patios/courtyards. We had a cheese platter and fresh oysters for appetizers. Entree we had sirloin steak and grilled salmon. Dessert was the best creme burlee we ever had! We also had French fruit tart and strawberry in chocolate on the house. Food was great and service was excellent. This is definitely the best place for a romantic dinner in Pasadena.

We were hoping that the wonderful Madeleine Restaurant had reopened. Not even a remote cousin. If you like Rococo atmosphere, maybe stop in for a cocktail-- otherwise, Pasadena boasts so many far better restaurants.

Food was horrible! Waiter and hostess kept apologizing for the slooooow kitchen , and we were the only table in the whole restaurant . It took more than 40 min to prepare bagel and lox, and omelettes . The food was again terrible . We complained to the chef, but she didn't seem to care . The owner obviously spent a lot of money in decor, but forgot to hire a real chef . Absolutely no supervision . Do not go there . My kids can prepare better breakfast than them .

The restaurant's location is so pretty! Worth the visit for just that. However, the food is quite good as well. The staff is kind and attentive. This place is still finding its footing and it's a shame it's often empty - that's a tough thing for a restaurant to change around. I encourage restaurant goers to take a chance and put this place on the map.
