We decided to try it our for supper because it is always an excellent experience. Had the band play Happy Birthday for my Mom (we were celebrating her 70th birthday). Making the reservation was a breeze and while the service at the start of the meal was so-so, our waiter Greg more than made up for it during the meal. Everything from the soup to the filet and crabcake with mac and cheese, to the AMAZING!! pound cake for dessert, it was the perfect meal to celebrate my new job. We particularly enjoyed the seafood lasagna, vegetable Wellington, and oatmeal pancakes. Although the weather was a little cool, we enjoyed the terrace and patio dining. We stayed at the Carroll Villa which gives a 30% discount on entries for guests—a bonus. I ate the ravioli with shrimp and scallops. The scallops were cooked perfectly! Lots of flavor. My two companions had the vegetable Wellington and neither left anything on their plate. The vegetables were perfectly sautéed and the pastry was just right. Decent beer list and tempting desserts. The food isn't the star of the show, but it's good, and this is a neighborhood institution. The location is fabulous, and the building is charming. Their fall/winter menu is smaller than their regular menu but with many choices for all tastes as well as daily specials and lite fare. The have a full bar menu which is extensive.
