  • "we had a great dining experience. We liked it so much for dinner we went back for breakfast the next morning. We had an acoustic guitarist playing throughout dinner and enjoyed the breeze is on the porch for breakfast I must stop when you in Cape May."

  • "GREAT RESTAURANT. We sat on the heated porch. Every table was filled on a Tuesday night in April. Crab cakes were to die for. ALL CRAB!!! Side was mac&cheese . The best ever. Skirt steak was excellent. Disappointed in the loaded fries. Was told by a couple during Happy Hour in the bar that they were delicious. Not to my liking. Should have not been, but they were very bland. Even with bacon , cheese and onions. Breakfast was also excellent and included in our overnight package as was a 30% discount on dinner. No dessert, too full."

  • "Ate here on a cold night in Cape May. Ordered some cocktails, had the seafood soup (which was loaded with bacon), I had the filed and crab cake, which were delicious. All in all a really nice meal and we'll be back!"

  • "My fiancé & I had our anniversary dinner here for the first time & were pleasantly surprised with how great everything was! Friendly staff, great food & although the bar was noisy they sat us in the back in a very romantic little spot. Absolutely loved it & are excited to go back! The lobster & crab bisque along with the crab cakes were delish!"

  • "There isn't a single negative thing to say about Mad Batter. The service was friendly, the setting beautiful, the cocktails delightful and the food was beyond amazing! Already looking forward to our next visit!"

  • "My husband and I were visiting Cape May and had dinner here. He had the lobster ravioli and I had the fish and chips. We both enjoyed our meals very much. Our waitress was very good and very welcoming."

  • "We were guests at the B&B and since it was the off season, they were just about the only place in town open for dining. Not a problem though because the food was fantastic! Breakfast options were amazing and the service was quick. Dinner had a limited menu again due to the off season but we weren't disappointed!"

  • "We were staying at the Carroll villa for the night and I made reservations to celebrate my husbands birthday. We sat down right away upon arrival. Our only complaint was that we asked to move because the first table we were at was drafty and cold. We were easily moved with no problems. The food was excellent, one of the best crab cakes I have ever had! The waitress accommodated me by bringing out a dessert (surprisingly) for my husbands birthday. And without her knowing she picked his favorite (cheesecake). That was delicious as well. Our overall experience was wonderful if we are ever in Cape May again we will surely stop by! Thank you."

  • "We feel that this was one of the best meals (dinner) we have ever had. Quality was outstanding and quantity wa just right. One entree was the Crab cakes - nice size - almost all crab - sredv with mac&cheese and asparagrass whcih wa grilles just right. Other entree was the salmon over mashed sweet potatoes and alos with asparagrass. Salads were extra and theapple salad was excellant. Dessert was the cake with coconut frosting. Some might feel the food is expensive but the quality certainly justifies the expense."

  • "The dining area. Is a little small and enclosed in the winter season which can make it a little noisy. The service staff was very attentive and our waitress Sue was wonderful. The food was very good and the wine selection was varied and also included local wineries."

  • "We had a very enjoyable dinner with great food. We also had an enjoyable Cocktail at the bar after dinner."

  • "Warm, friendly, relaxed cafe atmosphere, genial hosts and servers. Good food, especially their original, light clam chowder; lots of interesting art and artifacts on the walls; quirky shore architecture combining two Victorian cottages which house a B&B. Weekdays in the off-season only the tables the other side of a partition from the bar are open. You can hear the live music but without feeling like you are actually in a bar. Well worth returning for more than one meal!"

  • "Arrived 20 mins. before reservation time on a Sat. night, & immediately seated. Waitress provided excellent service; ambience was great with the live music. Shared apps: crab cake with remoulade and brie in puff pastry; crab cake had quite a bit of crab...decent. The brie pastry was soggy and the cheese lukewarm. Then, it's shrimp and scallop sauté with lobster raviolis in a tomato sauce for me while my companion ordered that night’s specials, blackened sea bass with sweet potato mash and asparagus. The sauté was good and had a nice flavour to it. Not a lot of shrimp and scallops (2 of each). The ravioli did have a bit of a strange taste to it. The sea bass was NOT blackened and really bland. Bottom line: average overpriced food."

  • "We had a group of 8 of us--all returning dinner guests! We enjoy the eclectic menu (always with creative desserts) and the cocktail/wine list. There is something for everyone--a creative dinner special for a foodie or a good basic salad or burger or sandwich platter for a simpler palate!!! They also have an excellent brunch!!!"

  • "My Fiance and I went there to celebrate and it was a good choice. The food was delicious and the entertainment was great. Our waitress was lovely as well. The appetizers were the best part of the meal. The soup of the day creamy pumpkin apple was a tremendously good bisque and the baked brie was melt in your mouth delicious. The entrees were good but sounded better on the menu. My fiance got the shrimp & scallop saute. It was a little dry and it had good flavor. I got the filet and cake. The filet was more medium than rare and the mac n cheese was cold. The bread served was delicious. The local IPA from Cape May was good. Glad the waitress made the suggestion. All in all it was a good experience and we had a lovely evening."

  • "Can't say enough about the service provided by Kelli. We four were on a tight schedule to make a theater curtain and despite an indecisive teen who changed her mind and yours truly, whose "The Same" was heard as "salmon," she was unflappable. When Kelli brought my partner's filet and crab cake, I was a bit chagrined to have the fish laid in front of me (which nonetheless looked absolutely delicious). She convinced me not to "settle" and promised to bring the right dish promptly, which she did. The filets were practically fork tender, the crab cakes delicious, and the four-cheese mac 'n cheese very good, complemented well by grilled fresh asparagus. The wine was a reasonably priced Cabernet Sauvignon. Too bad we couldn't stay for dessert."

  • "From the service to the food and being seating next to a romantic fireplace my wife and I could of had a more exceptional experience. The salmon was cooked/glazed to perfection and the pumpkin risotto was so good and very unique. They do it right here and I highly recommend this to anyone staying in Cape May looking for the best. To give you an idea on their food, they are in the same league as Washington Inn, Panicos, Merion Inn ect. They also have a nice bar, after dinner we sat there for a glass of wine as we didn't want to leave it was such a great experience."

  • "The Mad Batter is known for breakfast, but they have great dinner selections as well. We enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and the live guitar music coming from the bar area. Service from our server Kelly was excellent. My husband and I both ordered the skirt steak special, served with asparagus, mashed potatoes and topped with crispy onions. The skirt steak was prepared perfectly medium, and was given a nice salty richness from the sprinkling of melty asiago cheese on top. Dessert was the blueberry crumble, which was the real highlight of the meal. All the desserts looked good, but I'm so glad we chose the crumble! Served warm and topped with ice cream, each bite was a fun mix of hot and cold. Really stellar. Go for dinner. Get the crumble!"

  • "The Mad Batter is located in a local bed and breakfast. It is situated one block from the beach and is an easy walk to nearby shops and bars. We took the kids out for dinner to celebrate their report cards and they found menu items that met their liking. The waitress was warm and attentive. The food was tasty."

  • "I enjoy the Mad Batter more for breakfast, which is great there, than for dinner. I find dinner prices high and the dishes not as creative as other restaurants in Cape May. Unfortunately for the restaurant, the competition is fierce, so you really need to be on top of your game."

  • "When in Cape May, NJ do not miss the Mad Batter. The staff, the service and the food is great and they treat us like family (and it is family operated which is an added benefit). Whether you are in the mood for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner or a light snack, they have it for you. The restaurant is very comfortable with indoor, outdoor and garden room dining and a large bar area. They also feature works of local artists. And, an added benefit is that they can accommodate your stay so you never have to leave. When we are in Cape May, NJ we never miss eating at Mad Batter. It is our favorite."

  • "Everything was fabulous -- the service was lovely, the drinks were great (try the Parisian martini -- not too sweet and not too "not-sweet"!), the shrimp and crab bisque soup was THE best I've ever tasted (good thing my husband ordered his own, cuz sharing with him could have been a problem...) The crabcakes were excellent! I hope to return sometime SOON!."

  • "The menu was great for gluten sensitive people. I was able to enjoy a gluten free pizza that was very good. My husband had the duck entree, and my friend had a gluten free burger. We were all pleased with our food. The drink list was also very good. Our server was pleasant and friendly and gave us very good service. We will return next time to try breakfast, since that seems to be what this restaurant is known for. We enjoyed our experience here."

  • "My wife and I went to the Mad Batter during a visit to Cape May for a long birthday weekend. Upon arriving, we were seated in the dining room just on the other side from a half wall diving us from the loud bar even though it was early enough that the restaurant was not busy. We both had soup as an appetizer, which came out quickly, but disappointed in both taste and warmth. My wife order the crab cakes, which appeared to be premade store bought crab cakes that were very dry and bland. The asparagus was woody and under cooked. My tenderloin was cooked as I asked, but had not been seasoned at all and the demi-glace was also tasteless. For the price and quality, skip the Mad Batter, plenty of better establishments."

  • "We have dined at The Mad Batter for breakfast and lunch and always enjoyed it. This was our first time eating here for dinner and we were quite disappointed. For us, no matter how great the food is, the service is a critical factor in our dining experience. And the service was poor - really disappointing. We expected to be in the restaurant and were seated on the porch. We ordered our food right away - and then waited, and waited, and waited. At least two other tables who came after us were served before us. When we asked what the problem was, the waitress said " it was just the way the orders went to the back". That did not make sense since we ordered before those people even arrived. No apology. Just "That's how it goes.""

  • "Mad Batter is in the heart of Cape May and part of a wonderful B&B. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner and are extremely accommodating. Their porch area is very comfortable and an enjoyable dining area even if the weather isn't perfect. They have clear panels and heaters when needed. They offer from light fare, such as salads, rustic pizzas to wonderful entrees such as Chilean Sea Bass. They have something for everyone and should not be missed when in Cape May."
