  • "Really don't mind paying a little more for excellence. Food, wait staff, ambiance...all well above average. Perfect place for a special occasion - in this case my wife's birthday. Only the Penrose Room at the Broadmoor surpasses MacKenzie's."

  • "Based on a single visit, this is a great place with decent service but only marginal food. Our server was attentive and helpful, but, her minions were buzzing about asking if we were finished, trying to box up everything on the table while we were still eating and delivering the check with "No hurry". My wife's pork chops were good, but, my meal was somewhat disappointing given the rep. The "dry-aged" NY strip lacked the flavor and texture of an aged steak and appeared to be just a steak, perfectly cooked, with a mark-up. The Lobster Mac & Cheese was seriously lacking two of the titular ingredients, lobster and cheese, which made for a $10 ramekin of greasy macaroni. I'll give it another shot and hope this was a one-off."

  • "We meet some friends from Castle Rock for dinner. We are from Michigan here for a conference. Your restaurant was the perfect setting for our evening out with special friends. Great food, service and ambiance. We will make the chop house a must when we are back in Colorado."

  • "For $34 I expected a great steak. I only got a good steak. Just a little chewy, and about the same quality as what I could have gotten for less at Outback Steakhouse. But the service was top notch."

  • "Awesome food, particularly the steaks, great service."

  • "I was expecting so much more after what I had been told by friends. The food overall was good though not exceptional. The atmosphere was nice and we were able to have a conversation without raising our voices. It took about 15 minutes for my glass of wine to be delivered to the table and that seemed to be the standard for all of the service. The server did a great job of keeping the non-alcoholic drinks filled, but overall everything else was slow."

  • "The service by the waiters was horrible. I suggest you find another job if you can't be personable. There was definitely an attitude and I am unsure of the reason. My dinner partner and I were not demanding or unpleasant in any way. Otherwise, the food was delicious!!!"

  • "I absolutely love the oysters, in fact, we ate them all. They ran out after a couple dozen. That was disappointing."

  • "Took my husband out for his birthday wanted to take him somewhere special I have heard from a lot of different people in the past that Mackenzie's was "The Best ". I ordered a rib-eye and my husband ordered the porterhouse His was extremely bland mine was bad as in spoiled meat it was sour I complained right away the waitress took the steak back the cooks all look puzzled as to what to do they finally went and got the manager she came over and asked if I wanted another steak I said yes and choose to go with a filet mignon it came out later after my husband was done with his food :( it was bland and to think we paid 35 for one steak and 38 for the other. I actually felt so bad I apologized for choosing this place for his birthday."

  • "Excellent steak house with great food and great service! They were very attentive and quick to bring drinks and food. Being downtown, parking is a little difficult, but well worth it once you get there and sit down. A little loud, but it was Saturday night."

  • "Wife treated me for my birthday and we both had steak based on a great steak experience 2 months previously at the restaurant. She seldom eats beef and when she does, it is filet mignon. On the previous occasion the filet was excellent, causing us to go back again. This recent occasion, the filet was not up to par--not tender and a lot of gristle. We should have said something to the wait staff...we didn't and we came away disappointed with her meal. Everything else about the meal was great--great place and very good wait staff."

  • "Everything about our experience at MacKenzie's Chop House was awesome. I visited the restaurant as part of a group and loved it so much I had to take my family there, and they loved it just as much. We will definitely be going back and taking family and friends with us."

  • "Went with my wife for valentines day. The place was packed because of the "holiday" but the service was still excellent and frankly I am going to say we had the best steaks we have tasted in years, and I am a steak snob. Often disappointed when ordering steaks in restaurants. Not here, the food was excellent. Worth the money spent and the wine list is excellent. Great steaks, great wine, great place."

  • "I was visiting from Denver and looking to take my love to a special dinner. MacKenzies is HIGHLY recommended. I wish I could remember our servers name, for she was great. Had a lovely time and will be going back :-)"

  • "They made us feel welcome the moment we walked in the door the drinks and food was amazing and the service was impeccable if I am ever back in town I will for sure be back. Loved the history the atmosphere the food and the service if ever in Colorado Springs must stop in for a bite"

  • "We had a dinner reservation for 830pm on a Sunday. My date ordered the Lobster Ravioli, when it arrived it was hot on the outside, but cold internally. The server took it away, and came back relatively quickly with what I assume was a microwaved dish to make it all hot. Not the quality I expect from McKenzie's Chop House. I know that not all things can be made fresh, but my assumption can only be that the dish in question is made in bulk and then warmed for serving. This was a special dinner, some time alone from the busy lives we lead, and it was marred by this experience in quality dish preparation."

  • "MacKenzie's Chop house was a great place for a nice dinner out with my husband. We enjoyed the food and the quiet atmosphere. The only downside was that our table placement seemed like an afterthought and the table was really dark - we had a hard time reading the menu and felt like we were a last minute addition table even though we had reservations - however, overall we enjoyed our evening and food"

  • "MacKenzie's is pretty much what it seems from their online presence. It is in a neat location and has a very nice ambiance. I felt the food was pretty average for a place in this price range. Good but not at all special. Steaks were cooked correctly and tasty but not anything special. The veggies were very very plain (Carrots and Broccoli steamed with no seasoning) It is nice that they include a starch and veggie in the price. They wern't busy but service was not great (and they gave my wife horseradish sauce instead of sour cream for the potato but fixed it after she used it) I expect a little more from a 40 dollar steak and these guys give just enough. Worth a visit but not worth your entire paycheck."

  • "This is a great spot and I would highly recommend it to everyone. If you want professional, this is it. If you want casual dining, this is it. Simply put, it is one of the nicest spots in town."

  • "The food was just OK, nothing to rave about. The atmosphere was nice and the service was fine, but again not top notch. Better steaks can be had at "The Famous" for a few dollars more with better service and similar atmosphere. The Margarita at Pine Creek has much, much better food in general for about the same price although you have to be able to appreciate the somewhat funky atmosphere of the place. We probably will not go back to MacKenzies since there are other(better) choices for us."

  • "My boyfriend and I celebrated our valentines day (belated) here - it was one of the best meals we've ever had. Martinis were amazing. We ordered the calamari, blue wedge salad, I had the filet mignon and he had the ahi steak, wine and cheesecake for dessert. I swear, everything our waitresses put in front of us was amazing. My boyfriend claims that was the best ahi steak he has ever had (and he orders it every chance he can get). My filet was unbelievable!"

  • "This was our first time at McKenzie's Chop House and we truly could have not been happier about our choice. The beef and brie appetizer was one of the best we have ever had. The drinks were fantastic. The service was very notable (Attentive but not overwhelming), and the food was fantastic. This was our valentines date and I can say that we will definitely be back. -Andrew, Colorado Springs"

  • "We could not have asked for a better dining experience. The fresh entrees were delicious. The prices are moderate and the service was excellent. The historical building adds to the ambience."

  • "We were seated way in the back, which was nice and quiet. Started with a piña colada martini and it was delicious! We both ordered the prime rib and it was prepared exactly to order. Only issue is that I wish entrees would come with a choice of soup or salad. Couldn't even just sub it for the veggies for a slight up charge."

  • "What a wonderful dinner. We have been to MacKenzie's before and they never disappoint. It is cozy, inviting, charming, and just a great place to go. They take wonderful care of you and the food is top notch. I will eat here again and again and recommend it again and again. Thank you for a fabulous night out with my husband."

  • "Our overall impression of this visit was one that we will be challenged to patronize MacKenzie's again. We were promtly greeted by Sarah at our table and her behavior throughout our visit was one of the few highlights. Her service partner Lindsey was absent for almost all of our entire visit. Mitch was truly the support for Sarah as he was constantly addressing either empty plates or emply glasses on our table. As for our dinner the onion soup was very bland. My wife's Chicken Marsala was just ok and my $35 NY strip, identified on the top of the menu as their 30+ day dry aged signiture steak, was not seasoned at all. We after being severely underwellmed by the food quality, passed on desert and ended our visit very disappointed."

  • "I only reduced service by one star because of two minor lapses in remembering orders. May have been caused by the "team service." Otherwise everything was outstanding. Food was "WOW!""

  • "MacKenzie's Chop House is our first choice for a date night downtown, especially prior to a show at the Pikes Peak Center. A must-have is the sirloin tips and brie. The French onion soup is also a favorite. Ahi Tuna, Sea Scallops or filet mignon have always been perfectly cooked; personal challenge is to try something different, but its hard to steer away from personal favorites. Finish with their crème brulee...perfect meal!"

  • "When cost does not matter, MacKenzie's Chop House is the place. You are going to pay, but what you get for the price is simply outstanding. 16 oz prime rib cooked to perfection, 6 oz filet cooked to perfection, steamed vegetables excellent, I can't really say anything bad about our experience."
