A word from Mack and Kates
Sophisticated Southern and Gourmet Country are great ways to describe the cuisine at the charming Mack & Kate"s Cafe. Named after two sisters, MacKenzie and Kathleen, our family owned and operated establishment will make you feel right at home. Started in a small, sleepy town, Mack & Kate's humbled beginnings took place in a small service station. This charming little destination dining spot grew over eight years, resulting in the Strawn Family relocating Mack & Kates to Franklin, TN. We enjoy seeing our friends from our early days and our new friends here in Franklin. We use the freshest and finest when it comes to our ingredients and always support local farmers and growers. We pride our self in our accommodating and knowledgeable service team and the ability to consistently feed our customers what they are looking for; the freshest from the best.Continued

  • "Restaurant appeared to be understaffed due to a private party. Delay in initial greeting by waiter and delivery of food after placing order."

  • "Took my wife to M&K for her birthday, four of us dined, food was great. and service excellent. We had early reservations, and by the time we left the palce was full, and for a small dining area it was a little loud. Recommend early reservations."

  • "The waiter was excellent and helpful and provided a candle in the dessert for my wife's birthday which always makes it a little special. The waiter conveyed her request to the chef to butterfly the scallops as she likes them cooked through and they were perfect. My Halibut was cooked perfectly and the appetizers where superb. Thank you for wonderful meal."

  • "The food was excellent, though it took a while to get our main courses. Waiter was attentive, but not hovering and fun to talk with. Peanut butter pie for dessert was awesome!"

  • "The best service ever!! As my mother in law said "I have never sent my steak back to be run across the stove one more time and had the staff smile at me and say yes mam" . The steak came back perfect."

  • "Great spot for date night with husband-- local spot in Franklin, nice ambience, yummy food. The staff was super accomodating when we asked if we could add 2 additional guests at the end of our meal for after-dinner drinks. Definitely go back again!"

  • "I have been to Mack & Kates in the past and received great food. The lunch was very good but the dessert was awful. The carrot cake was only a spice cake and stale at that. The coffee served with the dessert was also lukewarm and tasted old. I have had better at their restaurant and will give it another try but I won't order the dessert again."

  • "I had heard great things about this restaurant but I was completely underwhelmed! Is was just so so and really nothing special. For the level of "nothing special" you get, the food should be about half the price that is it. Service was good but the atmosphere was just slow and boring. I definitely won't go back!"

  • "Underwhelming & Overpriced is where I would begin to describe my Valentines weekend experience at Mack and Kate's. We are frequent visitors to both Macky's and M and expected the same experience if not better. The Valentines weekend menu was much smaller and left off Key entrees and appetizers from normal menu. My wife order the $34 Beef Tenderloin (aka Filet). The portion size was 4oz; a joke for the $34 price tag. The wedge salad was also very small for its $14 price tag (child size). They were out of Riesling. The best part of our experience was the hostesses seating us early, before our scheduled reservation time. Service was average at best."

  • "We always enjoy our dining experiences at Mack and Kates. The food is fresh and offers variety. The wine list and great, and service is always good"

  • "As usual Mack & Kates has excellent food, but very poor service. We made the mistake of going for Valentines Day, and the wait staff and especially the Bartender were busing visiting and did an excellent job of avoiding customers. It took us 20 minutes to get an order of drinks, by that time we had finished our appetizers. I take a lot of the blame for this although it is one of our favorite restaurants we should not go there on a special occasion."

  • "The food wa pretty good. We did have to send my husbands steak back. It was cooked to well done and he had requested medium. We felt that the prices were a bit steep. I picked this resturant for the lobster Mac and cheese and was very disappointed when we arrived and found out that they were serving off of a Valentines Day menu."

  • "Food was excenlent tho it did not have the southern twist that I am used to from Mack and Kates. Service was a bit slow but that i guess is to be expected on V-Day. Thank you for memoriable date night with the one I Love."

  • "We went to Mack and Kate's for valentines day. It was a pretty bad experience. The good part was that the food was good and the atmosphere was good. The bad part was the server. We never had napkins for the meal. I had to ask twice. The server seemed like he was in a hurry to leave. He tried to take my plate when I still had about half of my salmon on it. Finally I go and pick up the bill to see how much it costs and the server is hovering over me as I am trying to figure out how much cash I need to leave. Kind of awkward. We probably won't be going back. I told my wife the server was like an O Charley's server."

  • "This was our second Sunday brunch at Mack and Kate's. Our service was a little slower this time, but the waiter was new, so it wasn't a problem. Overall, the food is quite good. They were willing to go "off menu" for one of our party, which is unusual. We enjoyed ourselves and will be back. Love the ambience!"

  • "This was our first time dining there. For the most part, everything was really good. I was able to switch one protein for another with no problem. My husband, however, got cold food. He was the only one in our group of 6 that had an issue. I noted that it was good for groups: just make sure the group isn't too large. Prices are a bit steep."

  • "Mack and Kate's was a fun, nice restaurant that definitely lives by it's "urban country" theme. The atmosphere had a feel of a quaint farmhouse and was very pleasant. The ambiance is nice, though it is quite loud and somewhat crowded. The food is also very tasty, but the lack of side items and small portion size is disappointing. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese, and it is delicious, but very rich, and without anything else coming with the meal to help offset the rich taste, it is hard to eat in one sitting and can leave you hungry but unable to eat more. The steak and biscuits were good, and came with fries, but for the price I would assume a better quality of steak (such as sliced filet) instead of what was given."

  • "Went for the first time for lunch a few weeks ago, then returned for dinner last week. Several dishes were standouts -- fried green tomatoes & chocolate creme brulee deserve special mention. I'm not a vegetarian, but was disappointed to see NO vegetarian entrees on the days I was there. I understand restaurants w/ small menus not wanting to get into the business of catering to myriad dietary restrictions, but offering at least one creative vegetarian dish in each category should be de regueur. Service is friendly but not overbearing. Interior is more attractive than you'd expect for a strip mall / condo complex. Could be a romantic dinner setting if you are seated along the left wall. Worth a trip if you don't already live in the area."

  • "Mack & Kates never disappoints. We brought guests who had never been here before and they were very impressed. The service is always excellent and the food wonderful. I had the scallops on the waiter's recommendation (not a choice I would have made) and I was so glad I did. The special of the night was grouper, which was outstanding. Some my find the menu a little limited, but everything on it is well prepared and tasty."

  • "Our first experience was great! The place is small but very homey. While the first wait staff we met was less than friendly, our waitress made up for that with exceptional service. The foods was very well prepared and well flavored. High end using quality ingredients. We will be returning....."

  • "I went to Mack and Kate's with my husband and his two sisters. The waiteress was slow to refill our drinks or take our entree orders- really she seemed to avoid her section altoghether. When we finally placed our orders we were surprised that they were out of quite a few of the menu items including the steak and biscuits due to a large catering order. Instead my huband ordered the cheeseburger and I got the pork chop. Our appetizers arrived at the same time that our food did, which was upsetting, the waitress didn't see it as a problem though it was a small table. The food was decent, my pork chop was a little dry and my husband wasn't thrilled with the burger. We would probably not go back, the food didn't seem worth the price point."

  • "Went on a Saturday night. Restaurant was full, but food came out promptly. Server took his time with us, but we could tell they seemed to be short staffed. We really enjoyed our evening at this restaurant. We have been a few times and it has been consistently great! Some of the best food in the Nashville area!"
    Dined on 1/4/2014
  • "The food was wonderful; however, the portions were small, especially the beef entree. A salad and desert were necessary to fill a gentleman which made the final bill a little hefty."

  • "First time visit was great! Went on a Sunday evening when they offered their Sunday Supper menu. There were several tables occupied and a party of 15 in a side room that had arrived a bit earlier. Plenty of options to choose from with more than adequate wine selections (they also have a full bar). After getting seated, the host "warned" us that service could be slow due to a 3-person staff. As we were not in a hurry, that was fine. However, we never really felt a delay and were well taken care of throughout the evening Apparently, there was only the one chef preparing meals, and we didn't notice that either. Excellent food and courteous, professional service will bring us back! Go to Mack and Kate's!"

  • "Wonderfully cozy dining with very good food and served extraordinarily well! Each time we've been to Mack and Kate's the food has been consistently very good, and served with outstanding care. We always ask for Wayne who has to be, hand down, the best waitstaff professional in the greater Nashville Market."

  • "We made a reservation for Christmas Eve. We arrived 15 minutes and was seated at exactly the time of our reservation. The restaurant was very busy. Out waiter was very attentive and informative of the specials and menu. Food and wine were great."

  • "The restaurant was very busy, so the service was just a little slow. But that's a very minor complaint. The server was pleasant and helpful. Cocktails were excellent and the food delicious. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Everyone in our party was pleased."

  • "This was not our first trip to Mack & Kates, but we brought friends with us for a special holiday celebration. Our signature cocktails ( Sidecars and a Sazerac) were a perfect start, along with the yummy crab cake. We tried the Red Grouper special along with steak and some pasta. All plates were passed around the table so everyone could sample. Our server was great, as were the rest of the staff. There was an argument at dessert over which choice was better - the chocolate pecan pie or the hot cherry cobbler. There was nothing left of either, so I'll say both desserts exceeded expectations. We will definitely come back soon."
