A word from Mack and Kates
Sophisticated Southern and Gourmet Country are great ways to describe the cuisine at the charming Mack & Kate"s Cafe. Named after two sisters, MacKenzie and Kathleen, our family owned and operated establishment will make you feel right at home. Started in a small, sleepy town, Mack & Kate's humbled beginnings took place in a small service station. This charming little destination dining spot grew over eight years, resulting in the Strawn Family relocating Mack & Kates to Franklin, TN. We enjoy seeing our friends from our early days and our new friends here in Franklin. We use the freshest and finest when it comes to our ingredients and always support local farmers and growers. We pride our self in our accommodating and knowledgeable service team and the ability to consistently feed our customers what they are looking for; the freshest from the best.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We went for brunch on Sunday. There were 10 flies that wouldn't leave us alone. The portions were small. The food was average and a bit overpriced. We probably won't go back."

  • "Went for Sunday supper, they had an abbreviated menu, but it was still hard to decide! My scallops with peach sauce were perfect. Great service and friendly staff."

  • "Mack and Kates is a nice place to enjoy a good brunch. They have a nice menu offering and the atmosphere is good as well. We have been a few times and the experience has been positive on each occasion."

  • "The food is overpriced for the quality at dinner. Lunch menu is better and more affordable. Also, it doesn't offer the good ambiance that other restaurants in the area have. Noise is an issues when they are busy."

  • "I was very impressed by the menu and the ambiance of Mike and Kate's. Nice little place that I'd like to try again. Our server was very friendly as well."

  • "We had a good evening and the food was very good. We went on a Sunday which was probably a mistake. There were only two people working the floor...they were very nice and professional, but you could tell the details were lacking. The lights were on full power which seemed almost like it was closing time rather than warm and inviting. There was a noticeable lack of music as well. Once sat, they finally started music which is surprising Lu helpful when you have only three to four tables sat. The food and service were very good. We imagine a Friday or Saturday evening would have been a much better expeiriance....we will try it again!"

  • "Went to Mack & Kate's for a Saturday night dinner with another couple. We arrived a little early and were given the option to be seated or go have a drink at the bar. We chose the bar. After our cocktails, we were seated at our table. If there was a negative, it did take our waiter, Wayne, a little more time than I would have expected to show up to our table. He apologized and all was well. After that he did a great job and had a lot of fun with us. We had the Shrimp Boom (large prawns wrapped in bacon) for an appetizer which were outstanding! I had the Caesar which I had heard was a letdown, but I loved it. For entrees we had Pasta YaYa, Salmon and Lobster Mac & Cheese. Everyone was happy. Check out Mack & Kate's. I think you'll like it."

  • "Went on a Saturday night on a same day reservation and was very pleased. We were somewhat early for a Saturday night. We say down at 6pm and the restaurant was basically empty. It filled up by 7. We ordered drinks, salads, the house salad was tasty, but pricy for a salad. My husband got the Caesar salad which I would not recommend. It didn't have much flavor. For dinner we got the scallops, which were AMAZING! And I got the beef sandwiches. They were ok. A little dry, but still tasty. The truffle fries were delish! For dessert we got the key lime pie and a cappuccino. My husband loved the pie. Overall the experience was great and we want to go back just for the scallops. Note all of the menus found online are all old."

  • "We go to Mack and Kate's on a regular basis. It's always our go to restaurant when we have out of town guests. The salads, appetizers, entrees and desserts have been enjoyed by everyone we've taken there. It's a small place, so it gets a little noisy at times and the tables are very close together, but the overall dining experience is well worth it!"

  • "Great place to dine, 5 of us from out of town dined here and everyone loved it! Great southern twist on excellent menu. Everything was great!"

  • "My party enjoyed the food immensely; however our server (a tall, olive complexion, dark haired body-builder type) who's name was never offered, was terribly snooty. To not give your name is off-putting, and when two of us split an entrée and appetizer each, and after asking that the bills be individual, he brought the whole bill and confused everything by taking my money, giving me back wrong change, and not offering to split the bill, and it was very awkward and uncomfortable. He then asked (with an attitude) if we needed a calculator!"

  • "I chose this spot based on previous reviews for an anniversary dinner as we were looking for something new and fresh that was local and unique. And Mack and Kates fit that bill precisely. Herman, our waiter, was excellent from beginning to end. Was attentive and helpful without being overbearing. Was always smiling and eager to meet our wishes. The restaurant was decorated with antique looking knickknaks and the tables and chairs were very unique. The menu was a handful of daily selections that were all made in house from appetizer to dessert. All was excellent from beginning to end. Couldn't recommend you check this place out any more!"

  • "Mack & Kate's is a wonderful dining experience with great ambience, stellar service and fabulous food. The best shrimp and grits ever! A great place for a romantic dinner or special occasion."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "The food is always great here. That is why we keep coming back, but the service continues to be very slow. It takes two hours to have dinner. It is hard to plan dinner and anything afterwards because the service is so slow."

  • "My wife and I tried this place for our anniversary dinner. Loved the southern inspired menu. Our dishes (meatloaf and shrimp & grits) were delicious. It did not take long for our order to arrive and our server (Alex) was fantastic. We also tried a drink from their cocktail menu, which was awesome!"

  • "We had a wonderful family dinner at Mack and Kates last Friday night. The food was excellent, superb, and delicious. The atmosphere was very comfortable and relaxed. We will definitely be there again!"

  • "The reduced menu basically gives it away, but my waiter confirmed with, "We basically serve what we have left. We get new shipments on Monday." Otherwise, the food was just ok. I really enjoyed the Cauliflower Tots. The Southern Caesar was bland. The Kate's Bouillabaisse that my wife had was good. VERY uncomfortable seats. The reviews from my friends are excellent, so maybe I need to give it another try... but DEFINITELY not on a Sunday night. "

  • "We celebrated my husband's birthday with another couple. Three of us had the shrimp and grits - exquisite! Grouper was excellent too. Our waiter gave us a good wine recommendation and it was right on. Service was excellent - but a bit slow - the place was busy - but not a huge negative. Will definitely go back!"

  • "I was surprised by how good the food was. My wife and I dinned with some friends and everyone was very happy with the quality off the food. I had the meat loft only because I seen it being served ay another table and it looked so good I had to try it, glad I did. My wife had the Scallops and she is still talking about how good they were. I will be back."

  • "Overall good dining experience. Impeccable service from start to finish. As for the food, it was good. The appetizers were the star of the meal. I recommend the deep fried cauliflower for sure. My wife's pork chop was a little over temperature. My lobster Mac and cheese (house favorite) was really good. The dessert offering wasn't much to brag about. "

  • "Arrived with an extra person in the party. The hostess was unsure of what to do. She immediately was assisted and we were shown to a small private room across from the kitchen. The room was perfect for our group. Drinks were very good. One drink did arrive 30 minutes after it was ordered. Food was excellent. I had the shrimp and grits. All eight in our group had a different entree. Everyone was more than pleased with their food."

  • "Mack and Kates is my go to place when family or friends come to town. I especially enjoy the option of reserving the private dining room. The artwork has become a wonderful conversation starter, love the cows."

  • "We chose Mack and Kates because so many had raved about the food and I will agree it was great. BUT if you would like to modify anything on the menu be prepared for resistance and an obstinate response. Like their other restaurant in Green Hills Mackes, no changes please should be written on the menu. While I liked the food, don't think I'll be back - there are too many other awesome places for brunch that are far more accommodating!"

  • "We've dined here several times, but tonight was just "off." The salads were mediocre (a Caesar salad should not consist solely of the core of the Romaine), the biscuits were stale and the bouillabaisse I've had several times over the last couple of years was just terrible--I think they just opened a can of crushed tomatoes and poured it over the seafood. I sincerely hope this was an aberration and not the new normal. "

  • "Every time we go we each get our own order of cauliflower tots. Yes they are that good! And we must have an alpine. On this previous occasion we had the fish special which was excellent. The desserts are ok but never anything we leave talking about or going back for. "

  • "On Saturday, April 26th, my date and I visited the restaurant. She highly recommended it and so I was looking forward to it. When we arrived our table was ready. I wasn't wild about the table location given the bar tables were right above us, so having a semi private conversation was virtually not possible. It was prom night, so the restaurant was little overwhelmed I think trying to accommodate such a large crowd. Service was a little slow, but acceptable. The big disappointment was in my entree, steak biscuits and fries.... The entree was smaller than most appetizers, but I did get a big plate of fries! My date was embarrassed about my entree and really wanted me to say something, but given all the confusion, I passed. "

  • "I was looking forward to bringing my wife here for a date night after having been on a business lunch. While my wife was happy with her food (it did taste quite good), the steak in my "steak and biscuits" was way overcooked and there was practically no food on the plate. It was basically just a plate of fries with 4 tiny biscuits. The other disappointment was how long it took to be waited on and how long it took for the food. The server apologized for the delay and he sounded surprised it took that long as well. "

  • "Some friends got together for Easter brunch at Mack and Kates. The food is always good with a nice variety. The staff knows the menu and can articulate the details well. The atmosphere is conducive to conversation. It was a great choice!"

  • "Coming from out of town to spend a few days in Nashville, my wife and I were looking for a convenient spot for a meal after Easter Service. We booked a table at Mack and Kate's. A great choice. We started with the Bacon Deviled Eggs (gotta have deviled eggs at Easter, right?) and they were very unique and tasty. We split the meatloaf lunch platter. The meatloaf was perfect with the tomato gravy. Glazed carrots and a divine Mac'n'cheese completed the meal. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The same could be said for the wait staff. You could tell that some of the patron's were regulars and had developed a real rapport with the staff. A truly serendipitous find for our Easter Brunch. We couldn't have found a better spot. "

  • "Great atmosphere, loved the decor. Went for Easter brunch, food was good. Mimosas over-priced for their size. Overall experience was great, the interior design is adorable and very tastefully done. This place is different, unique, and a true gem in the neighborhood. Would love to try dinner there one time. Service was great, owner is friendly, overall good vibes. "

  • "We went to Mack and Kate's after a matinee performance of Wicked with my wife, 3 daughters, and son-in-law. It was fantastic! The atmosphere was exceptional for my family. The wait staff was wonderful and helped direct us to a couple of dishes we might not have ordered that were very good. This restaurant is one of my family's favorites and has a down home feel with sophisticated and excellent food. "

  • "I'm sorry to report that although we had a nice quiet fine dinner, the food was bland but my wife had the fillet and I had the special which was snapper. The snapper was a very small piece and no taste. The fillet my wife had looked like a thinly sliced pork chop. We tried this restaurant several times and unfortunately the result was same. I'm shocked they're open. Service in ambiance was good. The food brings the whole experience down."

  • "My wife and I have now dined at Mack and Kate's 4 or 5 times. Each visit has been great, all around. Food is always very consistent, extremely friendly service, nice wine pours and menu prices that are very fair. This place has quickly become one of our favorites in Franklin."
