How have we never been here before?! We live in the neighborhood and typically enjoy dining just east on Randolph. However, I must say... this is my new favorite restaurant! The food and wine are fresh and authentic; you feel as if you are actually in Italy. Friendly service and a beautiful space. I wish I had found this restaurant years ago! Thank you, Macello! Being from Puglia, Italy, I was excited to see our cuisine play a shining role in the city of Chicago. I hope more people try it out because its the best Italian style cooking there is. She had the risotto and I had a paste specialty dish. The hazelnut dessert was "sin" in a cup. They had a fantastic wine list (try the Primitivo) and we finished with a complementary Limoncello. We were delighted by the handpainted light fixtures and murals on the walls, not to mention the soft light pouring through the skylights. I didn't hear a train the entire meal. The wood burning stove gave just enough heat to make one of our seats nice and toasty. The bright colored balls and open wood and skylight ceiling with drive shafts/machinery suspended gave this restaurant an old world feel. The staff was very responsive and pleasant. I requested a meal of the waiters suggestions and couldn't of been more pleased. Great preconcert or pregame venue for the UC or UIC. We discovered a gem of a restaurant in location where I, for one, did not expect it. The food was very good and we really enjoyed a couple of the pizzas that wwere on the menu.
