  • "Loved the food and service was Great. Our waiter Renee was very attentive. We sat outside and the only negative thing was music was a bit loud. Other than that I hope this place stays in business because it is great!"

  • "We used a Groupon which i would highly recommend. Also definitely recommend making a reservation. Service was great on a Friday night, 7pm. Although the food was delicious, the portions were small for the not-so-small prices, especially the steak skewers. Again, very yummy still, and would still recommend those! Awesome rasberry sangria!"

  • "Took almost 2 1/2 hrs to get four dishes and the sound was so loud we couldn't hear each other unless right up in each other's faces. Not a fun time. Ran out of Perrier. Really? Thought about walking out but had guests. Our server was lost in himself. Will never return. Will never recommend. Stay home, eat oatmeal before visiting this place."

  • "A little bit of Spain in the western burbs. My first visit to enjoy tapas, crab cakes, potato & egg omelet, asparagus fresh and tasty. Paella as main dish below average since I have been to Spain and ate plenty of delicious paella. But the main draw was the "more than Excellent entertainment"...a group of Flamenco dancers and guitarist who were first class, the energy and music were "outstanding". The ambiance of the restaurant made this evening a really great night out....OLE! Macarena Tapas...Bravo! I will be back..."

  • "I've been to the Macarena Tapas in Naperville and their food is amazing!! The service is also great - the only problem is the small space the restaurant is in. The one in St. Charles has more than enough space and is beautifully decorated. Despite having a similar menu, the food just was not as good and the service was even worse. We were told our items would come out quickly so not to order too much at once. Well, the first dish did not arrive until 20 minutes after we ordered it, and it was cold. The rest of our food was just so-so, and also was coming out slowly and cold. Our waiter was no where to be found most of the time, despite the fact that it was a Wednesday night and they were not crowded at all. Try Naperville instead!"

  • "We went early evening. It was quiet inside with not many patrons yet. The crab cakes were delicious! My Mojito was also excellent."

  • "This was our first visit to Macarena Tapas and I was extremely disappointed. The service was extremely slow and unprofessional. We arrived on time for our 6:45 reservation on a Friday night and the place was pretty empty but got busier as the night went on. We started with 2 tapas which took very long to come out by a food runner. Our waiter never returned to our table until long after we were finished with the 1st two tapas plates which was pretty quickly since the portions are smaller than many other tapas restaurants we have been to. By the time we ordered 3 more items we had almost been there an hour already and the next items also took a very very long time to come out and we're not even hot. Flavored good. Service ruined this place."

  • "We went for an early dinner and enjoyed a variety of both cold and hot tapas. The host had a wonderful sense of humor, and the waiter was very attentive. The have a delish garlic potato salad and a unique jar of olives. We ordered the BLT-pork belly and the skewers of beef tenderloin with carmelized onions. Both were excellent. We used a groupon and enjoyed the discount. The fruit in the white sangria was so crisp and flavorful too!"

  • "Thanks to groupon we had the opportunity to find and experience great tapas in St. Charles. Good location and atmosphere. Great service. Great tasting food and nice presentation. Wine list small but our selection was good. Good selection of tapas. Which is the best? You will have to try. Not sure you can go wrong with any. Prices can be better- but that can be said for any establishment. I believe the value is similar to other Tapas in the general area as well as different countries. Give it a shot. C ya there!"

  • "The reviews I read were all over the map for this place. So I had to make my own determination. My wife and I went here on a Saturday evening and enjoyed everything. The food was really good, the service was outstanding, and we even enjoyed the outdoor seating even though it is in a strip mall. I didn't think it was overly priced as some reviewers had thought. Seemed pretty typical for tapas. I will say that the portion sizes are much better than a typical tapas restaurant though. We will definitely go again."

  • "I liked Fat Rosie"s and was looking forward to the new restaurant in that location. Food was good, and I know it's tapas, so small plates, but seemed a little pricey for what we got. Spinach salad was very good and plenty to share."

  • "Unfortunately, we ended up finding more of the bad with the restaurant than the good. Overall service was pretty good. Food delivery was a bit slow, but the server was attentive Avoid the cocktails - they don't know how to make a mojito and the white wine was served warm. Some tapas were great, like the skewers and grilled shrimp - I liked the roast beef sliders. But avoid the bacon wrapped dates and the empanadillas, while tasty, were pretty greasy. I don't think we will try this again, since it seems to be trying to be more than they are. Too bad, since St. Charles could use a good tapas restaurant."

  • "Our second food request took 45 minutes to receive because it was: a) order was backed up in the kitchen b) dropped on the floor c) given to another table. You choose the answer because these were the excuses we were given. Then, after this item was received, the waiter wanted to give us the bill and we weren't even done yet. We watched the next table arrive 20 minutes after we did, get their food and leave before we did. The waiter removed the last item from our bill due to our extended wait time. Usually, you get clean plates after each entree, but not here. We had to use the same little plate until we asked for clean plates; usually there is a stack of plates on the table of tapas restaurants. We won't go back."

  • "This wasn't our first visit to Macarena St Charles. In fact, we love going to their other restaurant in Naperville too. Since they opened this restaurant in St Charles, we have been frequent patrons. The tapas are little plates of heaven! It is so much fun to decide on the dishes to order and then share them with family and friends. Along with a delicious glass of sangria, it makes for wonderful dining experiance! You won't be disappointed!!! "

  • "6 of us came to Macarena to celebrate a family birthday at 7pm on a Saturday night. The food was quite good. However the service was terrible, and the ambiance was sterile. The waitstaff were overwhelmed, even though the restaurant was only about 2/3 full. We waited almost 20 minutes to get our bottles of wine, and the cocktails we ordered never arrived. The server was quite apologetic, and it seemed like the issue was in the kitchen and bar. St Charles has many other nice restaurants and we would not return here."

  • "This was our first, and last, time at Macarena Tapas. Only two tables were occupied when we got there and no one was at the bar - not good signs. The food was just fair as was the service. We got the impression they were just waiting for the ax to fall."

  • "The interior is just beautiful, the food was fabulous, and the service was attentive. The chef even came out to talk to us and let us sample a new dish he created. They are very passionate about food and creative. This was our first visit and we will be back."

  • "Tyler our server was phenomenal! He explained the dishes well plus he created the fabulous mixed drink menu! His drinks are muddled and out of this world! :) I met a friend here and we both loved how we weren't rushed--true tapas de España style! Will definitely come again! PS--the bacon wrapped dates in honey were my favorite and my friend loved the shrimp in garlic. Perfecto! :)"

  • "The table felt a little small for 4 people and that many plates coming out, but we managed. The food was delicious & interesting. Other tapas places all seem to share the same recipes and combinations, but Macarena shook this up a bit and it worked. The scallops wrapped in bacon were awesome & so were the goat cheese balls. The octopus was reminiscent of a chicken dish, nice subtle flavor and a great chew. The steak skewers were cooked to perfection, but nothing special & the spicy potatoes were excellent. The dessert was awesome as well. The chocolate balls that melted in your mouth were out of this world & the cream puffs we perfect. Their red sangria was good, but it did seem over priced for a carafe. All in all a great meal."

  • "Glad they opened a closer locale than Naperville. Best meal I've had in a long time! Not inexpensive but you get what you lay for."

  • "Wanted to love this place. Great decor, creative menu, but they messed up 2 of my all time favorite and basic tapas (garlic potato salad and bacon wrapped dates). Service was adequate at best. Didn't seem to be a manager on the premises or we would have complained. It's all about the details, and we shouldn't have to ask for clean plates and bread/butter refills. The only one on his toes was the gentleman filling the water glasses! Look, it could have been an off night, and I know this location hasn't been open for too long, but with all of the other wonderful restaurants around, I'm not sure whether or not I'd give it a second chance."

  • "We saw a Groupon and decided to try it for a rare date night out without kids. The hostess was less than friendly and after beig seated, we waited a good 10 mins before our server finally came over. At this point it wasn't even busy. The mango lemonade I ordered tasted like a cheap mix and was not palatable. We ordered a series of cold and hot tapas to share. The food came out pretty quickly. The basics were fine (tortilla and olives). I will say the dates and goat cheese croquets were very good. We had two dishes, the plantains and the steak on bread, that were so sub par we took one bite and left the rest. At that point we decided to have dessert elsewhere. Even with the Groupon, our bill was over $50 before tip and weren't drinking."

  • "The tapas is great but keep your expectations for service low. We've dined here serveral times and service is fair to poor. The good food keeps us coming back, for now."

  • "We are happy that a Spanish tapas restaurant returned to the St. Charles/Geneva area. You have to dine at Macarena's 2 or 3 times to sample all their hot and cold selections. Great margaritas! Salad and seafood choices average."

  • "This is a great place to try many different Spanish foods all in one meal. Four people makes it easy to sample and not get full too fast. The beef medallions were cooked perfectly and so tender! I would also recommend the flavorful pork medallions, and the garlic shrimp. The only thing lacking is chocolate cake, but the pistachio dessert is good."

  • "This was our first time trying Macarena Tapas and it definitely will not be our last...what a great experience! We went there to celebrate Valentine's Day on Saturday the day after; with an early reservation we were seated easily. Everything was great - the portions were well-sized for trying a lot of different things without being stuffed and everything we had tasted fantastic. Because of how quick the food came out, the pace of the evening was ideal too: when we were done with one, we just picked something else and it was back out in a matter of minutes. We were never rushed and never waiting for food; the perfect combination. The atmosphere was great and it was topped off with excellent service from Alex - great recommendations!"

  • "We love the occasional tapas dinner but found this to be subpar. Bacon-wrapped dated were actually bland and only dipped in honey. The goat cheese/bread dish was actually tasty but served like toppings on Texas toast. Beef was tough. Garlic shrimp was good. But nothing wowwed us in a way that would make us want to come back."

  • "Very small portons. We bought 4 plates for over 40 dollars and were still hungry because the plates were so small. Food was just ok but poor value. The acoustics were also not good as it was difficult to carry on a conversation."

  • "Macarena is a nice addition to the St. Charles food scene. The ambiance was upbeat and pleasant. The staff were friendly. And, most importantly, the food was good. The prices were a bit high for tapas but I'm seeing price increases everywhere I eat. Maybe I need to lower my standards or drink less!? Nah! Life's too short. A great tapas joint will always have a place on my list of go-to dining experiences. Macarena fits that bill for the area."
