Diner Reviews
  • "We showed up right before they were closing the kitchen. There weren't many people there; however, it seems like a fun place to go with a group of people."

  • "Great place that my mom and I grabbed lunch. Sat in the beautiful sun on the patio, drank sangria, and munched on delicious food. Couldn't be happier."

  • "Great Happy Hour menu and kid's eat free during Happy Hour!!!"

  • "I met a friend for breakfast and we liked the food, especially the bacon! But otherwise, nothing special. The greeting was ok, nothing to make us feel welcome. Our waitress, however, was very nice and accommodating. Not sure I would come back, but it was convenient for a meeting place."

  • "Came here to meet a friend for the first time. The food and the atmosphere was romantic but, casual enough to not be uncomfortable for a first date. Nice place. Felt really relaxed. Service from Angie B was great. Hostess was very nice too."

  • "I've been here for lunch and sat outside. Don't go for dinner. Indoors there is a stale odor. And the food two of us ordered, a brussel sprout salad, was soggy and placed sideways on the plate, kinda thrown on there. Except for the burgers, everything was pretty crappy. And the smell... Did I mention $200 for dinner for 5? And one of us was a kid. Keep it to breakfast and lunch and eat OUTSIDE if you don't like bad odors while eating."

  • "We had a wide range of choices for our brunch. We all loved what we ordered. Quality was very good."

  • "so glad we made reservations! key on Sunday brunch. Great spot for out of town guests- menu is broad enough to please everyone."

  • "Their sushi, the tacos, the chicken, everything was outstanding (usually it's hard to find a place where they excel in everything, but I've found that is exactly what the Lettuce Entertain You Corporation does). Service was fantastic...the dessert was out of this world, and we all can't wait to go back!"

  • "Great food, lively, and fun. This is a happening lunch spot. Everything was great except that the service was very slow. Don't go here if you are in a hurry. Though we didn't ask for a b'day dessert, the waitress overheard us say it was one of our birthdays, and she surprised us and brought a delicious cookie for dessert. Very sweet."

  • "Always a great, reliable spot, especially for a larger group or if you don't have rezzies. Even if there's a waiting line, things move quickly. We were 4 adults and two wee ones who needed booster chairs and the staff were very accommodating. I really enjoy their eggs benedict but I'm guessing you have to order your yolks soft as the last two times I've ordered it, they've come back hard cooked?! The brussells sprout salad with a side of grilled mahi was very good, but slightly underdressed. It lacked a certain "je ne sais quoi" although the fish was perfectly grilled and delicious. Any place that makes a Bloody Mary from scratch is aces in my books and they are tasty! M Street is a good stand by in the 'hood."

  • "Went for breakfast. Location is good if you want to take kids to Tongva Park. Good on-street parking if you go by 9 am or you can park in the Civic Aud. parking lot. But food was disappointing. Latte was not good. Scrambled eggs and kids' pancakes were dry. Service was adequate but restaurant wasn't full. Won't go back or recommend this restaurant at least for breakfast."

  • "Noisy inside, quiet out, but the noisy inside (with high ceilings) and great menu make it an ideal place to go with kids. Great menu for adults and kids, and breakfast served most of the day. Don't miss the cookies on the way out from the bakery."

  • "I'm used to the Lettuce Entertain You restaurants in Chicago so I was expecting big things from M Street Kitchen. First of all there is very limited parking and even though it said valet service, we never saw a valet. Next it is very noisy. We went at 6:30 on a Sunday night and it was as crowded and loud as I assume a Friday or Saturday night is. The food was ok and there was a lot of it. If you order the nachos appetizer, be sure you have 2 people or maybe even 3 to eat it. The service was excellent and was a bright spot in the evening."

  • "We come to M Street all the time but we were a little disappointed in the service we received. We noticed that our section was busy so we did our best to be patient but we had to flag down our waiter for drinks, to take our order, to request for a side condiment and for our check! He never approached us before we had to grab his attention."

  • "Our server was very nice but spends a lot of time with each table which can really slow down your meal. My order was also not correct- i ordered the h'ourvoes rancheros (with any changes or substitiutions) and it was missing beans and had to get sent back to kitchen. May have been oversight or server grabbed wrong order. Their bus staff is awesome- so fast and polite clearing tables and much of the success is to them for helping turn tables quickly."

  • "Based on other reviews, we enjoyed breakfast at M Street Kitchen during our visit to Santa Monica for the BCS National Championship game. The food was wonderful, and we liked the atmosphere. We enjoy finding local restaurants that reflect the neighborhood, and M Street Kitchen was perfect for us."

  • "M Street kitchen always has a great energy - it's usualyl packed, but never so packed that you can't get a reservation in a reasonable amount of time, or just wait at the bar for a while for the table. Great cocktails and good food/diverse menu. Total Santa Monica staple."

  • "Great time, Great Service and Great food. :) We had a great time."

  • "Love this place! We arrived late and they were able to accommodate me and my friend no problem. The restaurant staff were all welcoming, friendly and efficient. I had the chicken soup; my friend had the thai salad with a funny name. The food was served quickly. My decaf soy latte was outstanding - I had 2! The homemade english muffins are to die for -- I took home 2 orders for my family. My only complaint -- and it doesn't matter to me - is that a large table of 8 or 9? was seated directly in front of our booth making it difficult to get out. The restaurant has a very comfortable feel. Loved the artwork! Really my kind of place. I will be back -- many times over I can tell you right now."

  • "A relaxing and cheerie place for breakfast and lunch. The patio is great if the sun is out! Meals are very tasty A fun place to go."

  • "One of our favorites! Great food - great ambiance. A perfect place to dine morning, noon or night!"

  • "Always a favorit for brunch and went early to avoid a wait but always forget how many people bring their kids- small kids. I certainly can appreciate parents want to go out and the restaurant is large and noisy but the stroller parking blocking aisles or kids running around can get out of control and be disruptive to others. Any chance to add an adult only areas?"

  • "Typically a short or minimal wait, m street is reliable for people in Santa Monica. Not touristy but not fit for foodies"

  • "Tasty restaurant that is perfect all day. M street is one of my favorite brunch spots and dinner always hits the right spot from wanting fish tacos to fried chicken to burgers to salmon the chef has made a menu that appeals to my need for new tastes!"

  • "came here with a group of girls i used to work with- they had never been here before but i think they will all be looking to come back soon. Food was good and service was excellent. really appreciated hostess seating me right away too. parking-even before 10 car be an issue so it would be helpful if valet was out a little earlier since undergraound parking fills up fast."

  • "Abby rocks at the bar. Def not your traditional bar scene but a fun spot to pop into for good food and to hang with a few transplant sports fans during a game!"

  • "Yes, brussels sprouts. The vegetable that no one is neutral about. Well, M Street Kitchen's brussels sprout salad will turn everyone who tastes it into an adoring fan. Made up from the leafs of the vegetable, torn off and tossed in with such other tasty additions you can't help but fall for it. Of course you'll also love the setting and the personal way the host and wait staff greet and take care of you. It can be a lunch experience you'll want to revisit again and again."

  • "Met some friends for lunch. Reservation process was easy and I had to up the number in my party a few days before and they didn't seem to mind. Lunch was quick enough for some of us to get back to work, they were very accommodating with bringing the check out right away."

  • "Casa del Mar was packed, so walked over a block and half to this friendly California location for coffee& snack meeting. I had a smoothie and the guest had a tea. They had plenty of seats and despite before lunch hours, waitresses were attentative when needed but otherwise left us to our conversation without making move. Casual, professional, and friendly. Brunch on weekends get crowded so be aware."

  • "Because there were so many families and even teens (on their own!) dining there, I felt like i was in the suburbs with a panache of metropolitan. The food was good, but too too TOO salty. For the price, it's a good place to go in Santa Monica if you live in the neighborhood."

  • "Loved going to M-Street. It's such a good, all round restaurant. The people care and the food is very good. I love the scene."

  • "We had a terrific brunch there in July 2013. The eggs over a root vegetable hash were fabulous. Therefore we decided to try it for dinner in October 2013 and were sorely disappointed. For brunch we sat in a booth and I highly recommend that. For dinner we were at a table on the bar side. Although we weren’t close to the bar, it was incredibly noisy and truly hard to hear one another. The tables we so close, the wait staff had to circle many tables just to get from one side of our table to the other. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger and the cheese wasn’t at all melted on it."

  • "I love this restaurant and take every opportunity to visit. I wish i could eat here everyday!!"

  • "...because the food is entirely ordinary. Although "midprice," fillers and cheaper ingredients water down most dishes, and makes the place seem less than a bargain. (But you knew that already b/c of the beachside address.) The atmosphere was similarly generic: we went to watch game 1 of the World Series, which although broadcast from screens around the room (thanks), was drowned out by dated house music out of place with a mostly middle-age crowd. If you're touring in a large group w/ diverse and contradictory tastes, by all means stop the bus and go. Otherwise, let this place succumb to its corporate identity--hopefully to be replaced by a joint with more inspiration and integrity; the location is primo."
