Diner Reviews
  • "My best friend and I do monthly outings to places we've never been. This was a great surprise to me as this was the restuarant by friend chose. I had a few drinks at the bar, including the Cranberry Cosmo which was GREAT! We chose to have the 3 for $15 appitizers. I had the curry soup, chicken wings, popcorn shrimp and oxtail. It was all very good. We would've tried the 4 course meal but since the dishes were already chosen we decided not to. Overall this was a great experience. Plenty of parking, of course you have to pay given the part of the city it's in. It's ashame it rained, because I wouldv'e loved to sit outside in the patio area."

  • "all 3 courses my friend and I had were wonderful but the standout for both of us was the Avocado Gazpacho. the presentation is completely surprising but the taste is to die for. exceptional!"

  • "I came here on a Sunday evening with my mom and dad for my mom's birthday and it was one of the best experiences I've had in this city. Wishing I could remember our waiter's name- he was so attentive, very sweet and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and the history of the Morris Hotel itself. We did the blind tasting, which was 4 courses which were not on the regular menu and we were anything but letdown. The flavors were so well developed and really stood out. We had chicken fricassee, roasted goat, oxtail & duck and a fantastic creme fraiche ice cream with graham crumbles. Also, the cocktails were the best I've had to date."

  • "Our waiter was very knowledge, the wait staff forgot where they were working. When the server presented our food to us, she continually said," Eat Up". Not what we would expect at a fine dining restaurant. Then, the wait staff removed our plates without asking if we were finished. Food was beautifully presented, however the duck was dry. Perhaps some sauce would help. "M," not what I expected!"

  • "First time at 'M.' The food was delicious - our server recommended a few items as we weren't sure about the amounts and the ordering. There several choices for a variety of pallets. We eat on the healthy side, low fat veggi - fish etcetera. I ordered the scallop - yep, one per serving - but it was so good- beets & Salmon . Small but satusfying! Wine was good too. I recommend you go to, 'M'- too chilly to eat outside but I will be back to experience that!"

  • "Excellent food. We found the plates to be more medium sized than small. My husband and I had 3 courses each, but could easily have cut out one of the courses. The presentation was very artistic! They say they are a progressive American restaurant and I would agree. The garden was not open yet, due to winter season, but we are definitely planning to come back in summer for outdoor dining."

  • "The waitstaff at "M" does a great job of explaining the food you are about to enjoy. I was told that the decronstructed crab ravioli was was warm pasta on top of cold crab. This not only painted a nice picture of what I was about to enjoy but also allowed me to know not to expect a typical ravioli. Our dinners looked like a work of art and not just placed on the plate as in the case of other restaurants."

  • "Great service excellent food - a place to wow a client for dinner - highly recommend though a bit on the pricey side. Yet still worth it for the right client dinner. I would also like to take my wife here for a special occasion."

  • "M Restaurant was the perfect setting for a lovely night out. There was a private event in the main dining room so we dined in the library. It was quaint and romantic, with a fire in the fire place. There were only 5 or 6 other tables there, so it was intimate. There seemed to be all sorts of groups -- a family with children, couples, friends, all welcome and all seemed to be having fun. Our food was delicious and we had a wonderful server, Chris, who was attentive without being intrusive. His assistant was the same. We were well cared for and had delicious food, prepared to perfection. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Nina Simone singing in the background was a very nice touch."

  • "An exquisite dinner at M! The main dining room was closed for a private event so diners were seated in the library of the Morris House Hotel. When my reservation was confirmed, we were told that this would be the case and we actually felt lucky to be seated in the library! Service, presentation and food were all excellent. I urge diners to make the cheese selection one of the dinner courses. We had the 3 cheese selection instead of dessert and it was the perfect way to end a memorable meal."

  • "We ate in the library in this stately old building. (There was a private party in the dining room.) The walls are covered with books. There are only 5 tables. The gas fireplace lends a cozy ambiance on a very cold night. The first two courses (the roasted beets followed by a smoked salmon course)were outstanding. The carrot cake dessert was different and delicious. Wines were excellent. We give the whole experience an A minus and will definitely return the next time we're in Philadelphia. In warm weather there is a terrace."

  • "If you are interested in quality over quantity this is the place to go! Every aspect from start to finish was excellent. The Fluke Cerviche was served with blood oranges which made this dish both tasty and pretty. The Rabbit Croquette was garnished with a carrot-ginger puree and scallions. Service was extremely efficient without being rushed. Looking forward to another visit soon."

  • "We sat in the bar to dine so that we would not miss a single note of the wonderful saxophonist who played at M Wed night. Kevin Nickel's subtle breathy style allowed us to enjoy dinner and have a conversation at the same time, which is nearly impossible at most restaurants today. We had an amazing dinner and here are the highlights of our meal- sweet potato soup, fluke ceviche, mini gnocchi, wild boar loin and scallops au poivre. Each had its subtle nuances that had us wanting more. This little gem is tucked away on 8th and from what we could see, has a spectacular outdoor garden that will open in the spring- can't wait to come back for that. Chris our waiter was attentive and funny. A great find. Bravo M for a great night!"

  • "We cannot wait to return to the M for another spectacular dinner. I needed to find a restaurant close to the theatre and was surprised how close it was the parking garage as well as the theatre. We enjoyed our time there so much we almost blew off the show! Our server was fantastic, sorry can't remember his name, but he made suggestions that we never would have ordered and it was fantastic from the cheese with the miso butterscotch sauce! What!! so good! to the finale, kumquats and sugared raspberries! Thank you for a great food experience! Looking forward to the nice weather when we can enjoy the courtyard and end the evening spending the night at The Morris House Hotel. Andy and Patty"

  • "My husband is in a wheelchair and we always call ahead to let them know. The first visit our entrance to the restuarant was flawless. The gate to the courtyard was open allowing us quick access through the french doors to a table that he could literally wheel into. That evening the service was ok. It wasn't awful but just seemed a bit uncoordinated. The other issue that night was that on a limited menu, they ran out of two of the selections that we had decided on. It was early in the evening and the menu is so limited but the food that we did order was honestly outstanding and we decided that this was definitely going to be a regular dining choice (we newly live in Wash. Square). Our second visit this past Sat.was far worse."

  • "We went for restaurant week. They just had a menu change which was somewhat confusing because they had items on the menu that were not available. The restaurant week options that they had tasted great. I'm someone that likes to eat, and the three courses did their job. The back room was a little chilly during the winter time, and it didn't help when they repeatedly opened the doors. However, the restaurant itself was quiet, and romantic for my wife and I. We'd go back. They stated that the restaurant is popular during the summer, so maybe we'll try it then."

  • "Fabulous and elegant food with very knowledgeable and friendly servers. None of the haughty service or ridiculously high prices one gets ripped off when they go to Talulla's Garden - just a few blocks away. Save your money and come to M - your palette and wallet will thank you."

  • "I think M flies a bit under the radar sometimes, with all the new restaurants popping up seemingly every week, but . I took my mom here Saturday night, and she loved it. The food was excellent, and plated beautifully. I had a couple glasses of the cabernet franc/merlot blend, and I would go back just for that. The service was also great, and they seem to have a good team dynamic. And the ambience is lovely and quiet, with soft lighting, pretty decor, and pleasant music that is just loud enough to smile at a good song but still be able to have a conversation. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was their take on ice cream - a little too much like a chemistry experiment and I didn't care for the texture."

  • "I really enjoyed my birthday dinner here. We got three course and i really liked them all. My favorite choice was the cauliflower soup which I almost didn't get as it sounded boring at first but it had popcorn salt, toasted cauliflower and then pickled cauliflower added to it and it was divine! The portions are big but we left full and I did feel I got good value for money as they definitely provided me with foods and techniques that I would never be able to reproduce at home. There was a one very loud and drunk patron at the bar which took away from the atmosphere. I wish they would have encouraged him to quiet down or shut the curtain between the dining room and the bar."

She deserves to be moved up to the main wait staff position. She was helpful and knew all the answers to the questions. I will certainly go back. I look forward to a Spring dinner where we can sit outside and enjoy the area between the buildings for an outdoor meal."

  • "On a dismal winter night, we ventured out to our favorite spot to enjoy a meal to warm us up! And boy did it. With freezing temps outside, M delivered! Sharing is the way to go here with so many options to enjoy. Don't miss the spaghetti squash, heirloom carrots, exotic mushrooms, crab galette and stuffed quail. We savored every bite. The delectable flavors here are clean and fresh, and the food carefully prepared and executed. This little gem deserves the attention of the foodies of Philly! We love it and come here for a dependable, affordable meal. Service is always attentive, unobtrusive and they take care of every detail. Kyle the chef is young and ambitious, worthy of our praise. Put M on your list of "Not to miss in 2014" !"

Food was great and the option for small portions is great for those of us watching or meal portions and still wanting to taste the special items on the menu. Nice bar (terrific martini) and good selection of wines by the glass. Servicers were warm, knowledgeable and not intrusive."
