M Restaurant at the Morris HouseGreat end to a theater day!Our group of fun ladies enjoyed a wonderful dining experience in the outdoor garden at the M this past Saturday! We took advantage of the 3-course theater special and were enchanted with the presentation and tasting of each course! Special thanks to our server, Maxwell, for guiding us so elegantly through the menu! The exotic mushrooms were to die for as was the red pepper veloute. Our main courses ranged from perfectly poached salmon, seared scallops, sea bass and duck breast. Our meal finished with an assortment of well chosen cheeses and a variety of desserts! We reluctantly left once the wine was gone but talked about our dining experience all the way home and already put this restaurant on our list for next theater season!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMagical eveningI got together with an old friend to catch-up and decided to meet at M for a drink and found that it was live jazz night. It was magical. We sat in the garden and went from only intending to have one drink---to staying for a four course meal. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Next time I'm going to order the pepper soup. I got a taste, and I've never had anything like it---and garnished with an edible flower. The whole evening turned into a special memory.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely beautiful! What a stunning gem tucked away in Society Hill! We absolutely loved our experience and are looking forward to returning. Also, this place has the best charcuterie in Philadelphia! Well done M Restaurant!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMChicken "Tagliatelle"!!Chicken "Tagliatelle".... What????. My friends and I were skeptical but ordered it and loved it. It is made from pounded chicken breasts that are sliced thin and sautéed with a mint pesto- so you are convinced you are eating pasta!!! But guess what! No carbs here. We loved it. Tender and delicate, it was a superb summer meal. We tried so many things I can't remember them all but know that each dish was prepared with superb ingredients that really had so much flavor and texture. The outdoor setting was perfect for our group of 6 and the jazz was a delightful addition that made our night complete. Loved the summer cocktail list too. Service was friendly and attentive. A definite great new find for us. We will be back to enjoy this gem again.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding service!Max was an excellent guide to the innovative menu.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWent here for a friend ofWent here for a friend of mine's birthday. Upon approaching the restaurant it was a little unclear where to check-in with the hostess, but after ducking through the bar we found her. She gave us the option to sit inside or outside so seeing as it was a reasonably nice day we chose outside. The outdoor seating was ample and catered to groups of all sizes. It was well shaded by adjacent buildings which kept the heat down. The musicians playing added a nice ambiance to the experience. The food was SUBLIME. My only qualm with it was the portions. I left the restaurant with the memory of some amazingly prepared dishes deeply embedded in my mind, however my stomach craved a bit more (that's why only 3 stars for food). Also: try the Pink Elephant!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat surpriseThis restaurant is almost hidden from the street and it is just a little gem. The food is amazing, my family and I were sharing dishes all night. Just an all around great experience.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGorgeous outdoor diningA beautiful garden setting in a courtyard, with a clear overhead awning, so you stay dry even on a moist day. Some dishes were exceptional, especially a wild mushroom course, while a scallop dish seemed a little off. It feels like a vacation in the city, but occasionally the service was distracted. For instance, a glass of wine was delayed well after a course was delivered. Even so, a one of a kind experience in Philadelphia.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Food/Historic/RomanticIf you're looking for a terrific meal in a truly historic setting that oozes romance, then this is your spot. We had a 4 course meal; each was creative and simply delicious. Don't hesitate!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGem in Independence Park areaA beautiful indoor-outdoor restaurant, with an intimate feel and a beautiful garden. Food is outstanding and service is friendly and prompt.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss this spotFabulous place for a small wedding or a bridal shower. Very romantic, especially in nice weather in the garden. Added bonus the lovely hotel. Food was great as well.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA Wonderful Dining ExperienceI had out of town friends visiting from Chicago, and they were duly impressed by all that "M" had to offer--and it was an added plus to be dining in an historic Philadelphia setting.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe nicest place for outdoorThe nicest place for outdoor dining in the city. A bit early in the season--but they had placed propane burners near tables to make it doable. Nice happy hour with drinks and snacks; good for lowering the cost a bit. Good service; not pretentious, and not teenager friendly either--just right. After a drink, we looked at the menu. We thought we would need to leave because there wasn't anything my almost vegan husband could eat. As we were thinking about moving on, the waiter came back and told us that the chef would make two custom courses for my husband. Both were lovely and bore no resemblance to anything on the menu. Clearly the chef likes to show off! What an unexpected treat. Perfect place to just relax or have a celebration dinner.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBest soft shell crabs in the citySpring brings my favorite, soft shell crabs, on stage to front and center. Looking for a restaurant that does them right is nearly impossible. Having large crabs that are pan fried and crispy but not overdone or mushy is a difficult task. But M does it right, and they come with a delicious dill cucumber salad that is crisp and refreshing. We all ordered them and loved them! They were by far the best crabs we have ever eaten, anywhere!!
Our business dinner was not only a night of amazing food but excellent service all around. Anthony was fabulous with his specialty cocktails and Tess was a lovely, attentive waitress. Can't wait to return when I do not have to entertain stuffy clients and can have fun in the garden with my friends!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother wonderful experience.Another wonderful experience. The food was prepared and presented very nicely. The overall tapas approach works for both foodies and those wanting to try a variety of foods without over eating.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBest food in city? slow serviceOutstanding food. One of the most creative kitchens in the city. Delicious soft shell crab dish. Simple oyster plate with lemon was a hit. Delicious charcuterie plate. If only we did not have to wait so long for our dishes (did not plan on spending almost 3 hours at the table. This is definitely something management can and should correct to make M a top Philadelphia destination.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAgain, Deborah and her staffAgain, Deborah and her staff did not disappoint! Kudos -- Still my favourite restaurant in Philadelphia!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMJazz AlfrescoThe outside patio is a gem. Combine this with fine food and wine and a jazz trio in the background. What more could you ask for. The M Restaurant is a must for summer dining.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to M for the firstWe went to M for the first time to celebrate my wife's birthday. She always says it's hard to find a romantic restaurant and this definitely fit the bill. The food was phenomenal, specifically the Exotic Mushrooms and the John Dorry fish. Their menu consists of small plates so the chef recommends 3-4 per person. We ended up getting 4 each and all were delicious in their own ways. Definitely a must try, whether sitting in their candlelit dining room or on their garden patio.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Birthday Meal!I went to the restaurant for my birthday with my family. We sat at a lovely intimate table from where you could see a beautiful courtyard (perfect to eat in when its warm weather). We started of with some cheeses, bean salad and mozzarella salad all of which were really good. The smoked salmon was one of the best i've ever had! I would recommend the asparagus soup as well, it was thick cream and delicious. My favourite dishes were the deserts! They were champagne soaked pineapples and a cake with cranberry and mongo sauce. SO GOOD!! Would have ordered more if I wasn't full! The service was also incredible. The staff were extremely friendly, always made sure we had everything we needed and made us feel really at home.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways goodAlways good. They know you have theater Tix and do everything to get you there on time without compromising quality of food and service4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMI have reviewed this restaurantI have reviewed this restaurant several times before. We have visited on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed our dinners. I would like to remind any readers of this review that the weather is warming up and outside dining is a very special time at M. There is a lovely courtyard with tiny white lights where tables are setup. It is really special.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMEaster brunch was had a variedEaster brunch was had a varied menu with good options. We had eggs Benedict, lamb with grilled asparagus and pancakes as a dessert. The only food less than excellent was the breakfast potatoes-too soggy and greasy. We were seated inside On a cool day. But we could see the garden. We definitely plan to return and hope to be there on a warm evening to sit in the garden. Excellent attentive service.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an excellent diningWe had an excellent dining experience! From The bar & bar tender to our server to exquisite food. Highly recommend. Food was amazing! Nice & quiet. Great for a small group or date.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and interestingOur party of five all enjoyed ourselves. The ambience is sophisticated and romantic. The staff were very helpful and entertaining. Food is served as small individual dishes, so you choose 2-4 plates to construct your meal. This worked very well for me as I am a light eater, so I chose 2 items. The short rib was tender and succulent. My companions raved about the mushrooms. The fois gras ice cream was pretentious but really only tasted of the dark chocolate that coated it. I had a special martini of plum vodka with lime, which was good but not outstanding. Overall, I liked the restaurant and the food enough to recommend and return.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been there severalI have been there several times and have never been disappointed. Not only is the food delicious, the service is impeccable and it is very affordable. Plus, they have a magnificent enclosed garden area where you can dine or just have drinks in the warmer weather. Definitely worth a visit.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMRestaurant M is a keeperThis is the second time that I've been to M (I only come to Philadelphia a couple of times a year). During the colder months, when outdoor dining isn't possible, the indoor dining room is small and intimate. The menu is creative and the food perfectly prepared. The service is attentive and friendly. I have found my "go to" restaurant when I'm in town.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a very good dinnerWe had a very good dinner at M. Food choices were very different from typical Philadelphia restaurants. Small plates so be sure to order all courses. Anthony did a very good job explaining the menu choices and recommendations.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMConvenient to the Walnut St.Convenient to the Walnut St. Theater. Prior to 6:30 p.m. they run three courses for $35. Food was good (small 3 - 4 oz portions) and service was excellent.2/28/2013 12:00:00 AMM is a quaint little restaurantM is a quaint little restaurant and bar with a nice ambiance for a romantic meal or drinks at the bar. My fiancee and I enjoyed our meal... the food wasn't the best we have had, but it was good, and the service was very good. Also, the bartender made one of the best Manhattans we ever had! We would likely go back, especially when the weather is warmer and they have their outdoor patio seating available.2/22/2013 12:00:00 AMM Restaurant is one of theM Restaurant is one of the great "hidden" finds in the Philadelphia restaurant scene. Tucked away on 8th and Locust Streets, it is a wonderful restaurant with outstanding food and an absolutely beautiful outdoor enclosed garden area for relaxing and enjoying a great meal in the warmer weather. I've never eaten a bad meal there and the prices are very reasonable. It's definitely worth checking out.2/20/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner before theater.Cozy bar area up front with dining area in the back which is longer than it is wide. Tables are in two straight lines on each side of the room. Meal is served in courses one item at a time. The exotic mushrooms are delicious. Braised short rib and black cod very good. Our server Anthony was excellent and the servers as a whole were very helpful to everyone from what I saw and heard. More than willing to explain options and items.2/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is very creative andFood is very creative and the decor of the dining is very romantic.1/19/2013 12:00:00 AMDining ExperienceThe inside dining room at M is one of the few intimate dining spots in Philadelphia and the menu is unusual and delicious. We had two courses plus cheese and it was wonderful. During outdoor season the enclosed garden area looks wonderful. You'd never know you are literally in the middle of Center City. This evening was not just a meal, it was a dining experience, enhanced by good service!1/5/2013 12:00:00 AMthis was my first time atthis was my first time at M and thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. the history of the building is intriguing and the beauty of the surroundings is charming. the food was delicious and the service was excellent!12/21/2012 12:00:00 AMFabulous food and service!Fabulous food and service!
