Diner Reviews
  • "We went to M&S on a business trip. We had reservations and were seated right away. Lots of options both food and drinks. Ver attentive wait staff. We highly recommend a visit here."

  • "Went with a friend for a birthday dinner and selected M&S Grill based on the brand name and convenience. What a missteak. It was a Sunday evening and the restaurant was empty. We were told it is always like this on a Sunday so no big deal. Arriving towards the end of happy hour, we decided on a couple of cocktails..they were horrible.. The apps ordered were pretty good though. The food was a big disappointment. A couple of steak entrees we ordered. both had no seasoning = no flavor at all. The dessert was really good, the only reason I would return and it would probably be to go. The staff seemed unhappy and were inattentive other than the obligatory "How is everything". So many restaurants in Reston, Wish I had gone elsewhere."

  • "I am not a vegetarian, but two in our party were, and there were very few options for them to choose from. Not even a veggie burger on the menu. We will take our business lunches elsewhere in the future, if only to make our coworkers not feel so limited in their lunch choices."

  • "Was fantastic! Had gone online prior to look at menu and looked great. Build your own Bloody Mary was especially nice, too. Will return!"

  • "I would not recommend this to anyone. Sparse menu. Half the items were not available even though we were there when it first opened up. No liquor or wine was purchased and the bill was $86 for three, for lunch????. Food was poor. We should have went to their sister restaurant across the street, McCormick & Schmicks."

  • "We have dined at several M & S restaurants before and looked forward to an enjoyable dinner. Our waiter, Kyle, was very accommodating and pleasant. However, we were given soup spoons for our after dinner tea and coffees. The soup was served cold. The rib eye steak was more like a breakfast steak, etc. The noise level was incredibly high. Needless to say, we were disappointed in our meal and general experience. No, I won't return to this particular restaurant. Nor would I recommend it to others."

  • "Bread came out after appetizer, moments before entrees. Server not well versed with thr menu. Didnt like a side dish and told the waiter and his response was"yeah its not very good, I don't like that one either", nice time to tell us. When meal came we ordered a second glad of wine which did not come until we were polishing off the last of our entrées. Even dessert was a debacle, creme Brule was ice cold with no carmelization on top and strawberry shortcake was not a shortcake, just a lump of hardened, cooked dough, more like a Biscotti than Antything else. A disappointing $150.00 to say the least."

  • "There were only about 5 other tables occupied when we go there and seemed to have a lot of extra staff hanging around. I had 8 people in my party. We waited an hour and half for our food. The manager did apologize and gave me a discount on the bill because the kitchen was so backed up – which was nice of him. But the whole experience was very disappointing. I won’t be back."

  • "An enjoyable dinner in the outside patio on a beautiful day. The food was good and the service was good, we had a little mixup with the entree I ordered but it was cleared up and after waiting a few minutes it was addressed so it ended well. And dessert was comped. We will go back and sit outside this summer."

  • "Chops were very dry and way over cooked. Chef uses buttermilk or something for slaw. Horrible. Food all around sub par. Service was great. Thanks for ruining Father's Day."

  • "We went on Saturday night. It was quiet, service was friendly but slow. Food was average. With all the restaurants available in the neighborhood M&S Grill has to improve significantly for us to come back."

  • "Great Place to Eat! We sat outside in the patio. The service was well timed and not rushed. I'd recommend the Swordfish. The Calamari and Maryland Crab soup were good too."

  • "I took some business associates out after work and we all went online to look at the seasonal menu for the Reston M&S. Each of us arrived prepared to order so that the business meeting could proceed without that long pause for reading the menu or the constant interruptions to check if we are ready to order. But a glitch occurred. Two of the things on the menu weren't available so we ended up with that long pause, a quick order of whatever we spotted and then continued the discussions. It turned out that the quick selection was very good and interesting. Everything was fresh, well presented, and the staff was very professional. If you tell them you are there for business, they seat you in the back where it is quiet."

  • "We planned this for my daughter's birthday. Especially loved the "create your own" bloody marys. Everyone enjoyed the food as well, and the service was friendly and impeccable. We will be back."

  • "My wife and I (along with our 16 month old son) have eaten at the M&S Grill in the Reston Town Center on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed with either the food or service and this time was no exception. We got some light appetizers, drinks, and light dinner on a very comfortable Saturday evening. We sat outside and our server (along with the other wait staff) was awesome and especially so with my son which we really appreciate. Definitely would recommend!"

  • "trying to have a business lunch meeting is not easy at M&S Grill. The dining area was only a third full (seems common these days) but it was still too loud to have a normal conversation. "

  • "Now I know why this place was empty on a Saturday night. To begin with the service was awful. Our waitress was MIA most of the evening so I actually had to place our order through someone else (gave service a Fair rating because the other guy was OK). We finally realized she was just hanging out chatting with her coworkers. The food was barely passable. The Fried Seafood Platter literally tasted like it came from the nearest grocery store and wasn't microwaved for enough time. It was just bad. The Bone-In Ribeye wasn't awful but wasn't wonderful either considering the price. The only reason this place gets an overall Fair rating is because of the great location."

  • "We had more hopes for M&S when we made the reservation. M&S proved to be your average restaurant in a beautiful location with a menu that was sub-par and servings that left one unimpressed. In fact the macaroni and cheese was almost ineditable -- dry and tasteless. Suggest you try another restaurant in an area that has many good ones."

  • "This the 2nd Mothers Day at M&S Grill and it did not disappoint! The chef has an inspired menu selection. The food is well prepared and delicious. Thanks to the staff for making my day special! "

  • "Went with a party of 6, so not an un-manageable size. All starters and entrees were top notch (crab cakes are not lump, but good). Small peeve: warm bread was served without butter!. This may be a symptom of our less than attentive service. The restaurant was not full so maybe he felt that he could "chill out" more, but we had to get up a number of times to find anyone to help."

  • "Great brunch with great drinks at good prices. Although the menu is limited it was all delicious. Cinnamon rolls are amazing for brunch! "
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "The chef specials on the menu were not what was actually served. Had Red Beans & Rice which had black beans - and pork chops which were really small medallions. Steaks were very good and cooked correctly but fish was disappointing. No baked potatoes....odd at a 'grill'. Barbeque shrimp was excellent and waiter was very good. Overall good but for the price, it could be MUCH better food."

  • "A lunch for two including two glasses of wine and two sandwiches shouldn't cost $67 before tip. Service was so, so. Sandwiches were, however, good and generous. Took five minutes to find my reservation AFTER the Maitre d' finally showed up (11:30 A.M.)."

  • "You get 3oz of Lump crab meat with each bowl of crab soup. Amazingly good!"

  • "Seems the Reston location has been dropping off as far as the food is concerned. Vegetables served w/ our meals were near raw. Lemon butter sauce served w/ one dish had no lemon."

  • "The food was blah-tasting, just like I've always found it at the sister chain McCormick & Schmick's."

  • "We had a 7:00 pm reservation. 90% of the dinning area was unoccupied, short on staff, food okay. We sat as far away as you could get from the singer playing, and could not carry on a conversation. Nice people working there, but a disaster as restaurants go."

  • "Overall a very nice dining experience. Would definitely go back. Don't order sparkling water unless you want to pay $10 for the bottle. Service and food was good, waiter was attentive. My husband loved their calamari appetizer. Extensive wine selection, resonably priced. The Kaluha cake is plenty for 3-4 people."

  • "So, I really, really like this place for their happy hour and outdoor dining. It is a nice place, the people who work here are always friendly and attentive. I think the service is the best part of the experience. I was there for a business dinner. I'm not sure that I would spend the money out of my own bank account for what you get. Is it good? Definitely! Is it worth the price tag - everything is a la carte, up to you! It was $350 for 6 people. There were several glasses of wine/beer poured as well as good appetizers (Shrimp Cocktail, Shrimp Brochettes and Calimari). I had the seared scallops as did several other people - they were plentiful but only ok. Someone at the table had crab cakes and really liked them."

  • "The calamari appetizer was a hit with our group. The mussels and mahi mahi were delicious. The burgers looked great but arrived cold with the other dishes. One was sent back and quickly replaced with heated food. Two salmon dishes were from the gluten-free menu and they were delicious . The birthday guest received a flourless chocolate cake which was a very large portion of a very heavy cake that took 7 forks to help make it disappear. Noise level was up pretty high but the atmosphere was good. The service was very good and Kyle was great. The waiter took the printed birthday menus and left them at the front desk but no one was there when we left so we left empty-handed without the nice souvenir menus they kindly printed for us."

  • "We took our elderly mother to lunch along with a younger grandchild for a total party of 6. Mother is in a wheelchair. Very accommodating. Told wait staff at beginning our mother did not last a long time when out so they were very efficient in preparing & serving our meals. We were in a nice quiet corner and food was great."

  • "When at the Reston Town Center area, the M&S Grill is my favorite dinning place. It's a restaurant one can always count on for great food and great service."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "We arrived at 11:25 and were told that the kitchen wasn't open until 11:30 so we had to wait to order appetizers. Okay, that isn't so bad. Our appetizer was good enough, then we ordered. It took at least 30 minutes for food to come out and when it did they served half of our party and then left. 15 minutes later the rest of the food came out. I had the roast beef sandwhich which was dry, cold, and the bread was so hard I had to break it into small pieces to try and digest it. We also ordered some food for carry out to the rest of our team. Everything was spilled inside of the bag. We will be skipping this place in the future. Maybe try it again in a year or two."

  • "They have the best crab soup in VA. Each bowl comes with 3 oz of lump crab meat which is added at the table. Absolutely delicious."
