Diner Reviews
  • "The food is good, the drinks are better, and the view is amazing."

  • "Took friend for a farewell dinner, looking forward to the "new Lure". Beautiful! but ended up only staying for appies, as main menu was extremely disappointing. Food was tasty (flatbread, polenta fries, steelhead carpaccio) but had expected to have a "nice meal" as one could before the reno. Of the mains offered, 2 are sandwiches and 1 is a regular beef (C.A.B?) burger! The mains do look good for a roadhouse-style meal and we may return for a more casual supper, but we felt sad that the fine dining feel (seafood dishes, local meats, interesting veggies and sauces) and the previous excellent wine service has disappeared. Our server was friendly and tried hard but really had no clue and certainly knew nothing about wine or food pairings."

  • "Although we made a reservation for our group of 8, the table was not ready for another 45 minutes after we arrived. Lure had just renovated this scenic space, but the bar area is so loud it is difficult to hear your neighbour. The server was unattentive and unfortunately gratuity was already included in our bill. Appetizer plates were not cleared before entrees. As a large group, we did not feel the restaurant cared for our presence."

  • "Lure used to be a "go-to" place for special dinners. Since the reno, it isn't. It is now an extremely loud, noisy place where it is difficult to enjoy conversation with your meal. The food is still very good and the view is wonderful, but it is no longer special. And, with so much noise, it isn't a place to go to with people whose company you want to enjoy. If they would get rid of the music it would help a great deal. One highlight was our server who was terrific."

  • "I knew the "old" Lure and... deeply regret it!! This "new" place is tacky, looks like a bistro. Lure used to be a classy restaurant, not anymore. The patio is now taking out the wonderful views for the customers choosing to dine inside. All doors leading to the patio remained open so customers are left in the middle of crosswinds, horrible! The menu has changed for the worst with weird mix of food AND YOU NEED TO PAY 6 DOLLARS FOR BREAD AND BUTTER!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO AND NO. Shocking!!! Food wise: the oysters were not chilled, the wine list became very poor and the famous goat cheese cheesecake has disappeared from the menu. I will never go back to Lure. They just lost a very loyal customer and I am not the only one. A waste of money/time."

  • "Once a place with an excellent red wine sauce to go with its oysters, the Lure has revamped itself to attract the younger set so that all through the meal there is just this dull throbbing of bass with the listener clueless as to actual song. I miss the sense of fine dining it used to have, but the food remains good if greatly revamped. Re the mixed seafood platter as starter for $45 ~ I feel the condiments could be wider in selection and include a rose marie sauce. What the older generation has lost in fine dining, the younger set have gained in a seafood bar."

  • "Having dined at Lure several times previously, prior to a re-model, I was expecting the same good quality of dining experience. Sadly, not the case. I could hear the noise from the first step into the hotel lobby, which didn't bode well for the experience. This restaurant, like others, doesn't seem to understand (or is doing so for its own perception of ambiance) that piping loud music into a restaurant only forces the patrons to be equally loud. Maybe fine for a pub but not for a restaurant. But perhaps that is the intent because the menu is now more like bar food selection than restaurant selection. After having to use a loud voice for a simple conversation over the dinner period, I am not planning on returning to Lure."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Lure and had a memorable experience. The food, service and view were all excellent. Staff made a point of making us feel welcome and several wished us a happy anniversary."

  • "Lure used to be a little gem with great food, service and attention to detail. My wife and I enjoyed coming here for dates. We were disappointed to find that it has lost its intimacy and has become casual hotel dinning instead of a local gem."

  • "The lunch lasted forever because of slow service for food to be ready. In our case this was OK it was a special occasion but could have been frustrating. Our appetites are not huge and VERY disappointed to be charged extra for splitting halibut and fries = all we needed was an extra plate, so not acceptable. The food was good."

  • "Great view and food but the music is too loud for conversation."

  • " We were tgere for Father's Day brunch and they underestimated the number of customers. Kitchen was overwhelmed and we waited an hour for our food."

  • "Visit started with an unfriendly hostess. Then the server did not visit our table for over 10 minutes at which point we were dying for coffee and had to flag down a server from a different section. The food took a long time and came out cold. Overall can't say that my pancakes were super tasty, quite bland. Server dropped off our food and then disappeared without quality checking us. Then she brought the bill while we were still eating (Denny's ring a bell anyone?)! All throughout the meal had to constantly flag people down for basics like more coffee, ketchup, hot water for tea. Very unimpressed with Lure and as a 'new' restaurant it needs to step up its game to compete with all the amazing places in Victoria."

  • "Hard to carry on conversation with others at the table as it was loud and echoing in the restaurant. Service slow, salmon served raw to me twice. The cocojito drink was fantastic but overall a disappointing experience."

  • "I came with a group of 8 on the pickle boat pub crawl for my birthday. We were seated on the patio and it was a beautiful sunny day. I did have a reservation but forgot to ask for the patio. Good timing when we arrived a table was just leaving luckily! We got a lounge with a fire place in the middle. Very comfy casual. Delicious wings were served free as part of the pub crawl and the drinks were refilled promptly. Delicious red sangria!"

  • "Although the food was more along the lines of pub-type fare, it was all quite good and tasty. The service was also attentive and professional. The problem was the noise level - we had to lean in to the centre of the table to hear each other speak. Also, the music was better suited to the bar area than to the restaurant, too "thumpy". We dropped by for a drink late the next evening, and even though there were fewer people in the establishment, the noise level was still quite high. "

  • "Enjoyed good food and friendly unobtrusive service amidst the natural beauty of the inner harbor to celebrate our friends' birthday. WE have been here three ties in the past two months. Lure will continue to be on the top of our list for celebrations as long as their service and culinary creations remain outstanding."

  • "Our night was memorable, great service and food. Only one restaurant in Victoria that serves better food -(is the Matisse.) But they don't have the wonderful view. It was an enchanted evening ...a birthday dinner I won't soon forget"

  • "The restaurant was not busy, I made a reservation at 10:00 am for a seating at 1:00 pm for 3, the confirmation came back right away. For the special items, I mentioned that one of us was a vegeterian, and if possible we would like a table by the window. what a spectacular view. The food was great. We will definitely dine there again."

  • "We had dinner at Lure Restaurant while visiting Victoria last weekend. We went on a Sunday night so the restaurant was fairly quiet. My husband had the rack of lamb and I had steak with prawns. They were both delicious! The service was perfect. The servers were very personable and attentive. We will definately go back when we visit Victoria again."

  • "The most popular images of Victoria include the harbour and views of the Empress and the Legislature. Both are included in any seat for this restaurant. Brilliant."

  • "Had visitors from overseas and took them for a lunch with a view before they left. They were impressed and left with a very good memory to take home. Our server was outstanding and the food excellent. View of the downtown harbour with many small boats moving about added to the experience."

  • "My husband and I went to Lure for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. We had been there once before and enjoyed it tremendously. This time, the service was very good, but there were a couple of functions going on and the participants spilled into the lounge and were very loud. I realize that isn't the fault of the restaurant, but it did spoil the ambience. The most surprising disappointment was the meal itself - my husband's was only lukewarm and my halibut was overcooked, actually hard on the outside. The presentation of the meals was beautiful but I'm afraid we didn't think that they were worth the price that was charged. So sorry to give a review such as this, because it is a beautiful restaurant with spectacular views."

  • "The food was wonderful, the service was the best, and the view - well, it's so lovely. We highly recommend Lure and encourage anyone who has not yet enjoyed a meal here to go soon. We usually go for lunch or dinner but breakfast looks yummy, too :-)"

  • "We had a very enjoyable dinner with a wonderful view, despite the iffy weather. One of us had a cup of the pernod clam chowder, a particularily tasty version, followed by a daring choice for us of the mushroom risotto with prawns. The meal was well worth the "gamble". Our partner had the roasted breast of chicken, equally good but it had an unidentified spice, possibly cilantro, that she tries to avoid. Still, an excellent experience on our second to last night in our much-loved Victoria. The Lure deserves four and one half stars. Health willing, we will go back to The Lure and, especially, Victoria, one of our true gems in our land."

  • "When I was booking a reservation, I was given the opportunity to leave a comment. I mentioned that we would be celebrating our ten year anniversary. We were given the VERY BEST table in the entire restaurant. A quiet table for two in the corner with a spectacular view of the inner harbour. Our servers were knowledgable, polite, and committed to our needs. The food was perfect. Social grace and decorum was the only things stopping me from licking the plate. The restaurant and staff made it a very special night. We are so happy, we will be making this restaurant a must for special occasions."

  • "Restaurant choices in Victoria BC are rather limited (unlike, say, neighboring Vancouver). In that context, it was a pleasure to find a degree of sophistication and polish at Lure, as well as an outstanding menu. Really, there is nothing to complain about. It's part of the Delta Ocean Pointe Hotel, a rather grand place, quite new and appealing in a sort of big-budget way. Nice cocktail lounge adjoining, friendly and helpful service. Lots of local fish and shellfish on the menu. I was told by locals that Victoria is a magnet for retirees (that'll be me, by the way), and I'm sure they take delight in this restaurant that caters to your every whim."

  • "This place had wonderfully perfect: Veiws, taste, portions, desert!, staff, service. You obviously get what you pay for because its clearly a more expensive place, but awesome for that occasional occasion."

  • "so the food here was great when we went. Well presented, unique, and very flavorful. All of us enjoyed our food. And we all loved the view, simply spectacular at night. But, unfortunately, we also all noticed that it was next to impossible to get a smile from the hostess. Not sure if she just had a bad day, but it kind of sets the tone wrong for the evening. Regardless, we'd go back, the food really was great."
