  • "I had 8:30pm reservations on a Saturday night. We arrived at 8pm and were seated after a few minutes. The wine on tap is delicious and chilled but the portions are small so be prepared to get a few glasses. We ordered a meat and cheese plate with 1 meat and 2 cheeses. The amount of cheese was generous and great. Now onto the entrees, I got the Tagliatelle with tomatoes and sausage while my boyfriend got the Lamb Ragu (since this seemed quite popular). Neither pasta was anywhere near good. They both seemed to have been sitting in the kitchen for a while. We were both very unhappy with the quality. The service was just OK, we had to ask twice for wine refills and our meat/cheese plate took FOREVER to come out. We will not return."

Great food, although occasionally, as it this time the dessert which was not good, not every item is perfect.... but I consider that true anywhere. It really feels like walking into that place in anytown Italy and getting a good home prepared meal... Love it."

From the moment we made our reservation we were impressed with Lupo's customer service (follow up phone call to confirm reservation, replies on Twitter). The service we received while at Lupo was superb - Ann Mari is a gem and provided honest and spot-on recommendations for food and wine. She made us feel that we were welcomed and really ensured we enjoyed every aspect of our time at Lupo. The food was excellent - the marinated scallops, beef carpaccio, and handmade pastas were all prepared with great skill and care. We loved Lupo and highly recommend this to anyone in the DC area."

  • "Great atmosphere and vibe. We enjoyed being there, looking forward to going back to the bar for fun cocktails, good wine choices, and salumi and cheeses. Food was ok, a little heavy for summertime, but the fresh pasta and authentic sounding options were much appreciated. Our waiter, while efficient, was a little too loud for our taste, and we cringed whenever he came by to give us and our neighbors the menu spiel. Fun place though and I will definitely be back. Great addition to the neighborhood."

  • "Our first time at Lupo Verde impressed us. The food was fantastico, but the noise from the England-Italy World Cup match was (understandably) disruptive of dinnertime conversation. Our server (the owner, I think) gave us good guidance on flavors and textures. The fried artichoke was wonderful (and hard to find in DC - and especially hard to find done well), and the risotto special was tasty. But the homemade squid ink pasta stole the show: served with lots of seafood and an intensely-flavored sauce. Magnifico! We skipped dessert and coffee - too much noise. But the desserts looked homemade and wonderful. I'm sure Lupo Verde will become one of our regular haunts - when the World Cup is over."

  • "With the World Cup this past weekend and Lupo Verdi having very small bars that were packed with very roudy patrons did not make our dining experience very pleasurable. Our food server was even distracted by the game. It seemed very strange for sports enthusiasts to come to small bars at a restaurant like this one to view a sports event!"

  • " I first stopped by Lupo Verde to check out the bar. After such a great experience, I knew I had to check out dinner. I made a reservation, but showed up early...I just couldn't wait any longer! They welcomed us and found us a table early. We are off to a good start. Our server Ann Marie was warm and knowledgeable, and I trusted her with all of my course choices. We couldn't have been happier. The cured meats and robust cheeses were a great start. The branzino was moist and flavorful - perfectly cooked. I can't wait to come back for more pastas!"

  • "really wanted this to be great. 945 reservations but could not get a waiter for 20 minutes. Menu seemed descriptive enough, but everything that we ordered (3 appetizers and an entree) were all deep fried. We complained and the waiter pointed on the menu to where one item said "crispy prawns..." that doesn't mean fried, we were expecting something else entirely. The pasta had too much pepper and was mushy. I may go back to check out the meat room or for a drink, but just when i thought D.C. was finally getting a nice italian bistro, it feels like the search must go on."

  • "Lupo Verde kills it - authentic charm amongst a busy 14th street corridor took serious effort, and they succeeded. Food is stellar, wine list (while not huge) has unbelievable wines from parts of Italy only true oenophiles would know to look for. Great and gorgeous place, great cocktails and cool bars (2). The ambiance is good, grab a sidewalk table if you can, much less intense than dining inside. I give it a 5 of 5 - stati bravi, lupo verde "

  • " We had a reservation for 5:45, and we arrived and saw many tables open outside on the patio. The hostess stated they have a table upstairs for us. I asked her whether we could sit outside instead because it was a beautiful day. Instead of responding "yes" or "no," she in a rude tone stated, "but we have a beautiful table for you upstairs." I proceeded to look at her, as she clearly did not answer the question, and another hostess sitting next to her told us that we could sit outside. It was uncomfortable and left a bad taste in my mouth. After that initial awkwardness, we had a delicious meal, and our waiter was wonderful. I highly recommend the meat and cheese plate. The cocktails were also amazing. "

  • "No two ways about it... the service when one walks walks in the door is abysmal with snooty rude hostesses who taske umbrage because God forbid you show up precisely 2.5 minutes earlier than your reservation. On a hot day they delightedly tell you they have a table reserved for you outdoors - which you do not want neither did you request. There is huffing and puffing and dramatic sighs because you chose to inform them that you prefer to be seated indoors not outside in the heat with the added threat of a thunderstorm rolling in. One is seated only to find that the pasta is mushy (how does one screw up cacio e pepe???), the fish dry and tasteless. About the only redeeming grace are the wonderfully crispy artichokes."

  • "Lupo Verd is a gem of a restaurant. It is a cut above other restaurants in the authenticity and quality of the cuisine. There are regional standouts like Carciofi alla Giudea (Jewish artichoke) and other delicious samplings done in the rustico tradition. To accompany the outstanding cuisine is a wine list that features rare finds, displaying the incredible diversity of Italian grape varietals. The atmosphere is vibrant and the staff very helpful, With a number of them being native Italians who take the time to explain the nuances of a dish, or a wine."

  • "We live just a few blocks away, and this was our second trip to Lupo Verde, this time for my birthday. The meats and cheese platters are not to be missed, and the wine list is excellent. They also know how to cook a great lasagna, with just a bit of sear on the bottom of the pan. My partner and I have been to Italy many times, and this is the closest we have found to true Italian food in DC. We have talked to the owner, who is from Naples, on both of our visits, and he definitely keeps an eye on the customers to keep them happy!"

  • "I didn't have any expectations or any advance knowledge of the restaurant, ambiance, menu, etc. but I was disappointed with the food we ordered. I asked the waiter what were 'must order' dishes and he suggested a few--we went with his recommendation and ordered the fried artichokes and calzone, neither of which were notable, in my opinion. My friend order a peroni which was flat as compared to my pilsner. I ordered the almond gelato and my friend ordered the hazelnut, we were surprised when our gelato arrived served in one cup. The waiter didn't explain that's how it would arrive when we ordered (not sure it was indicated on the menu). Not blown away, I probably will go elsewhere next time I'm dining on 14th Street."
