  • "We had dinner at Lupa with our 2 teenage daughters. We all chose the Chef's menu (6 courses chosen by the Chef for 60$). We really enjoyed the quality of the meal, which was plentiful and with good variety. The 2 pasta dishes were great, and we particularly enjoyed the fish and the lamb served as a main. The cheese selection was excellent (served at the perfect temperature), and desserts were also delicious. The only drawback for us was the noise level, as we were seated right next to a large and ... very loud group! Apart from this, we really enjoyed our experience."

  • "Tough to review. Food was excellent. Gnocchi, Tortelloni and Caci e Pepe were all superb. The salad appetizers were excellent. Recommended wine? Not so good - passable. Service? Very competent. 3 of us had an excellent table in a corner. A major issue I saw with the restaurant was for a lot of diners the crowded conditions meant they were essentially dining in walkways and aisles. There were tables that seemed awful. Another issue was the appetizer course. I had the salume option and didn't realize (until after, when the experienced table next to us ordered) that there were excellent cheeses available but they were only listed on separate dessert menu. Would have made for great ap course. Food carries the day but be careful of your table."

  • "While he is now one of the biggest 'brands' in the food world, at his heart Mario Batali is a great chef and Lupa remains one of his best restaurants. Lupa serves simple Roman dishes, well prepared, in an unpretentious setting. The wine list is great. But it's the food (from the starters to perfectly cooked pastas like Cacio e Pepe or the Bucatini all' Amatriciana) that never fails to please at this Greenwich Village standout. If you can't get in for dinner, lunch is a great option. Can't wait to go back."

  • "This was far from my first trip to LUPA. I've been a regular for over 5 years. It is still one of my favorites and I had the good fortune of dining there recently with several of my coworkers. The food at LUPA is incredibly good and very consistent. I crave there Buccatini All'Amatriciana, Carbonara, Cacio et Pepe pastas and the new Pajata Alla Finta with a tomato based Ragu that includes tripe, sweetbreads and guanciale in it. That little bit of Housemade ricotta at the base of the bowl is a decadent addition that makes me crave this dish far more than I should. If you're a serious foodie or just a fan of Italian cuisine, this Roman-style restaurant won't disappoint."

  • "Kicked things off with a fairly bad cocktail - cloyingly sweet and the jalapeno flavor was nearly non-existent. Apps were a mixed bag - the salumi was a hit as was the farro, but the broccoli rabe was boring at best. As for the mains, the gnocchi's texture was pleasant but the sauce felt like an afterthought. The bavette was cooked well but got quickly overpowered by the amount of black pepper. More importantly than the spotty food was a waiter whose behavior seemed super odd. He was jittery, would disappear for long stretches, and had an off putting sense of humour. Lupa was definitely a disappointment."

  • "Lupa embodies everything I go to a restaurant for but so rarely find. Put simply it cooks food that I would never be able to cook at home and to such an exalted standard. Everything was memorably mouth-watering and so different from the usual Italian fare. Really unusual pastas with such subtle and multi-layered flavours, and a Panna Cota that was truly out of this world. It was the perfect climax to a wonderful week in New York."

  • "Dinner at Lupa was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was extremely helpful in choosing wines, cheeses, dinner etc. He was great and helped to make dinner a very good experience. We were not rushed and enjoyed our time there to enjoy each other while visiting NYC. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and will come again the next time we are in NYC. Our only issue was that the music was a little loud and was rock (we like rock music) and it was a little hyper to listen to while trying to enjoy a romantic dinner."

  • "As out-of-towners, we have appreciated tips from locals that led us to places like Lupa. The food is excellent, the portions just right and the wine list impressive. On this, our second trip, however, we found the service less attentive and the noise level higher. We may have been seated at a quieter table on our first visit and that could be the result of our having to change the night of our reservation only a day ahead of time. At any rate, we will make a third visit."

  • "A group of us (5 - 30 something women from Toronto) were visiting NYC for a quick shopping trip. We came to Lupa for dinner and had a great time The food was delicious and the service fantastic. Our waiter made us laugh all night! It really was the highlight of our NYC dining experience. The staff in general go out of their way to make sure you have a great time in the city with recommendations and other tips. We had a wonderful time and would definitely go back next time we're in NYC!"

  • "The food was very good, specifically the Appetizers and the pastas that our party of 4 shared. However, we felt very uncomfortable from the beginning when we walked in. The restaurant was very crowded and there was no room to wait until our table was ready. The bar was full, and there is no waiting area at all. Once we sat, and the bar became even more crowded, we had a group that was literally "on top of us" and hitting into us while we were eating. A shame, because we loved the food, but we probably won't return because it was just so uncomfortable."

  • "The food was terrific! Really had a home cooked feel, something that had been simmering all day in Grandma's kitchen. I had the orecchiette with broccoli raab and sausage. My husband had a slow braised chicken ragu over a fresh pasta. Both had rich sauces, without overpowering the fresh flavors of the dish. We both had great appetizers, one was beet centered and the other a fresh salad, both delicious. We enjoyed all of it including the wine. My only criticism is that the tables are situated a little too close to one another. One feels as though they are eating right on top of their neighbor . Overall I'd recommend going, but don't have a serious or intimate conversation, someone could hear you!"

  • "Lupa used to be great -- years ago it offered something unique: outstanding, fine Italian food at a reasonable price. Today it's merely one of dozens of restaurants in the city that fit the bill. However, it's a classic example of a restaurant that rips off its customers. I arrived with my date for a Friday night reservation. We arrived exactly on time. The place was packed, but there were 2 or 3 tables visibly available. They told me, "we are running behind tonight so you'll need to wait at the bar" -- this is code for "pay us for a drink you wouldn't otherwise buy so we can make a little more money off of you." When I make a reservation I expect it to be honored. I didn't appreciate the host's pretentious, condescending tone either."

  • "New Yorkers have plenty of choices for great places to eat, but Lupa is at the top for us. On our last visit we had the chef's choice tasting menu, and it was fantastic. The secondo course (roasted pork loin) was the least interesting, though perfectly prepared; the highlights were the appetizers and two pasta dishes, all of which were spectacular. And for this quality of food, the prices are quite reasonable."

  • "I had nice weekday brunch with my friend (weekend might be too busy and noisy though). Well prepared appetizer and pasta! It's very nice to have puntarella since it's very rare Italian vegetables and it tasted wonderful! Wish there are more pasta variety though, like Black squid ink pasta or pasta with Bottarga (love it in Babbo!)."
