We shared the mussels, which were really good with crunchy, buttery bread. I enjoyed the seafood stew, which was more than plenty, and my friend enjoyed the black cod. All in all a good meal with a great view.

We ended up here based on a great TravelZoo deal and were pleasantly surprised! We shared a gluten free mushroom pizza (which was amazing & learned they make their GF flour in house). My wife had the Porchetta & I had the Parpadelle. We opted for a carafe of one of the red wines on tap; which paired nicely. Overall a great find if you are in Jackson Square.

When I first arrived I was very disappointed. I expected a different setting not a bar and grill. But the chicken sandwitch , salmon salad and salmon appetizer was wonderful. The food choices were very limited howerever and the lamb meatball was deceiving as they are made with pork and beef as well as lamb. We do not eat pork or beef so we were excited about the meatball posibility. Otherwise the experience was very good.

    MmmGood
    Dined on 11/9/2014
The restaurant was lovely and I imagine my negative comments were simply because it was a very busy night with the Sunday wine down dinner. The food was great, the atmosphere was great, the wait staff was great and accommodating. There were just a few small things that could have been improved. There was no salt or pepper at the table, and none was offered at the meal. There was no Parmesan cheese offered at the meal either, and one of our guests requested it and a small amount in a dish was brought over for him, others in our party had to request this as well. Also, once dinner was served some in our party didn't have cutlery, so I had to excuse myself from the table to retrieve some. Otherwise it was absolutely lovely.

I have been here a couple of times, had a business dinner there for out of towners because it is nice to sit on the Patio. The menu changed to almost pub food. The service and support were weak and 3 out of 4 meals looked like they where reheated in the Microwave. I won't be back without knowing they have changed in a major fashion. To bad :(

Food was tasty though the menu was not all that exciting. Good portions though. However, our enjoyment was diminished because the food arrived at our table tepid. Not sure if that was because of the waiter or the kitchen as we were seated outside and couldn't see the kitchen.

The receptionist, servers and waitress needs more improvement in dealing with their customers. they were not smiling much, we felt they were obligated to serve us and not happy. they gave us the wrong utensil for the soup they served. doesn't represent the place. The noise level is too much due to the train...

Note - we had reservations for dinner but decided to eat in the bar/lounge area to watch the Giants game. The bar/lounge is very spacious with bar, table and lounge seating. There are a number of HSTVs to watch. There is also an outdoor area with view of the square. There is happy hour from 3 to 6 every day. The cocktails were very good. We tried a number of appetizers and 1 entrée. The menu changes so the on-line menu is not always accurate. We had the bone marrow, polenta w/pork cheek, lamb sweetbreads & stuffed squid and the black cod. We enjoyed everything. The service was great - we stayed for the entire game. Nice ambiance - not the usual small, crowded bar area. We'll be back!

We shared the mixed green salad, with homemade feta, blanched almonds, a light lemony vinaigrette, and very fresh uncut greens. Then the prosciutto and grilled figs, with fresh mozzarella and a tiny arugula, endive, and raddichio salad on top, with that great dressing. Figs were perfectly ripe.Loved it. Shared the hangar steak, very well marbled, with a mushroom glaze and a potato galette - the potatoes were shredded VERY finely and very crispy outside, delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked to order,,the glaze was not too sweet, and the mushrooms were almost crunchy and very rich - I think they were chanterelles. The ginger ale made in-house is outstanding!! The prices are very reasonable for such a luxurious dinner.

We really enjoyed our recent pre-Yoshi's dinner here. The pasta, minestrone, and pizza were all excellent. The service was a bit lacking (the kitchen was quite slow), but overall it was a good experience. We particularly enjoyed their specialty nonalcoholic soda drinks (only $3!) and the patio, which has a nice view and is heated. We'll go back.

Except for the fact that the food was over-salted, it was quite good. If you go ask that the chef go easy on the salt. This was not only my opinion but that of my dining companion who usually likes her food well-salted. The location is lovely. The service good. So excellent otherwise.

Lungomare not only has great water views but the service was quite good. The menu offered choices that were enjoyed by my party of four. The least favorite dish was the Seafood Stew that wasn't as flavorable as expected. However the salmon was mouthwatering given the skin was slightly crispy. The wine recommendations were spot on and the bread melted in your mouth. I will return.

Guessing that the reason this place wasn't packed for Sunday brunch is the disorganized service, but if it's not busy, shouldn't that guarantee better service? And to top it off, he returned our parking tickets unvalidated. May have been a fluke, but with so many great choices at JLS, doubt I will be returning here soon.

Made reservations, but still had to wait 15 min while walk-ins were seated. Longer wait to actually order, although server was friendly and professional otherwise. The food was just ok. I had the duck eggs, which were cooked well but the dish was swimming in polenta, which not only looked unappealing but which washed away all the flavor of the pork. It was lovely to sit outside and admire the marina, but that's about the only reason to go back, sadly.

Situated on the estuary right in front of the ferry landing, Lungomare has a premiere location in Jack London Square. The two outdoor patios are pleasant-one overlooks the water, the other has views of the plaza. I met a colleague for what we had anticipated would be a wonderful seafood luncheon only to discover that with the exception of a common salmon entrée, the lunch menu did not offer a single seafood dish. How disappointing! They have a la carte menu and Prix fixe. Bread upon request. The staff are friendly and helpful. For a restaurant that has “mare” in its name, it needs to definitely offer fish and shellfish at all times, not just dinner. Loved the view, complimented the service, very disappointed in the food offerings.

Padron Peppers were hotter than advertised. . . delicious still. A little bread would have helped - none ever materialized. Food was overall excellent. Tomato Watermelon salad was crisp, savory and refreshing. The perfectly al dente bucatini with meatballs looked like a small serving, but really wasn't. All the food was thoroughly enjoyable. Drinks were generous. Server was not as knowledgeable about the menu as we would have hoped. I will return!

This expansive Jack London restaurant is a good one for a big place down by the water...but it is without any sense of the old Italian intimacy for which I had hoped (it was my first time there)..the appetizer and salad we had were fine..the kale salad had by my colleague was fabulous actually while my smoked salmon, fennel crackers and burrata was somehow skimpy with the barest amount of smoked salmon on the plate for the price) And while everyone was pleasant..staff need to be better trained to be less 'overly sweet' -- a little more sophistication would fit the prices better.. So...if it's a fairly nice place and you want down by the water..it's just fine..but not what I would come away saying 'how special!'

We came here for our anniversary. We were sat at a table with no lighting and had to put extra jackets on because we were cold. Our small table became crowded with a tea pot and plates and water glasses that were wY too big for the table. When our food finally came we had to scramble to get the plates out of the way for the food runner. The food was average overall. We left disappointed and will not return.

Lungomare is better than the Chronicle's review, and our party of 4, each of whom is picky and demanding in his or her own way, all found delicious things to eat and drink, pleasantly served, with a charming view of the commerce chugging by on the Alameda canal and the lights across the water. Food was slightly on the salty side but fair overall. Squid ink pasta was a huge disappointment with ZERO of that briny delicious squid ink flavor. It was just pasta, colored black. The restaurant is in such a great location, too bad the food isn't up to par and can't compete with so many of the new Oakland restaurants so dedicated to spectacular food at a similar price.

Four friends had an excellent evening experience at Lungomare on Labor Day. The balmy air allowed us to dine on the terrace, with its view over the Alameda estuary. Service was a bit ragged but the servers were pleasant and brought us a delicious dinner, with shared antipasti, interestingly unusual pasta, perfectly roasted chicken. The chocolate budino was rich and unctuous. Overall, a most pleasant occasion.

The 4 of us did the Sunday package with a starter a main course and a desert and bottomless wine. One of the main courses one of use wanted was unavailable but we weren't informed of this before reviewing the entire menu and deciding on what we wanted. I took forever to get our wine. When it finally arrived one of the glasses was broken and a new glass was requested, 4 times before a replacement arrived at the table. All of the food was very bland. Very surprising given that the dishes sounded really good. It was almost as if the restaurant doesn't believe in using any type of spices. 2 deserts was brought out way earlier than the other two. That resulted in two of us basically finishing our deserts before the others got theirs.

The service here is friendly but too attentive. The food is more creative than the standard restaurant Italian fare. Our table had a tasty octopus appetizer, a ravioli, and a squid-ink pasta with seafood. But the restaurant is stingy with the seafood and the ravioli was too oily. The best part of the meal was the sangiovese wine. I expected more given the prices.
