Diner Reviews
  • "i walked by this place often and wondered how it was - it's a big place and fancy looking and a bit intimidating. but with a groupon i went from happy hour through dinner, sat outside by the fire, on a weeknight, it wasn't crowded, with view of the water, it was great! we shared a pizza, they make the crust from scratch and i'm picky about crusts - i'd totally eat their pizza again. drinks are great, great selection, octopus was grilled perfectly, fresh seafood is always a big plus for me also service from hostess to wait staff were all excellent. i can't afford to go as often as i'd like but i'll def go back especially for happy hour!! great to go on a date with my husband as well as with the girls."

  • "Enjoyed Lungomare. Sat outside where the view is great. Brunch was good with great drink options. Not a large number of options, but very nice variety. Very good, pleasant service as well. I'll be back."

  • "i've never had a bad meal at Lungomare. We loved the squid ink pasta, the pizzas, the lemony risotto, and the homemade sodas."

  • "I brought my entire family here to celebrate my daughter's birthday party. The views of the water and boats is pretty. We ordered burrata to start and it was lovely. I ordered the taglietelle (amazing). I think their pasta must be hand-made... so thick and delicious. My mom's risotto was amazing and the squid ink pasta was good too. I loved the gnocchi as well (we all shared). Desert was yummy and a good time was had by all!"

  • "We had a lovely early dinner the other night. Service was attentive, Food came out promptly and was delicious. The view is is pretty and the interior of the restaurant is airy and nice. I imagine it gets a little noisy during busier times due to the high ceilings, but the restaurant was sparsely populated while we were there."

  • "We were very pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food was and how welcoming and efficient the servers were. We got a perfect table, outside, with a view. Food was better than our first visit. Definitely will return."

  • "We chose it because we were taking a friend visiting from Manhattan and had our dog and had a view of the bay. It was a great choice. Beautiful fluffy blueberry ricotta pancakes, and unusual soft-shell crab Benedict. Our mimosas were colorful and tasty."

  • "We dined outside because we brought our pets. It was lovely day with sail boats going back & forth in the estuary. The food is delicious. Our server noticed that we were sitting in the hot sun. He offered to open the umbrella to shade us without us having to ask. My friends & I will dine again at Lungomare soon!"

  • "My husband and I dined here Friday night. It was our second visit, but rest assured, it wont be our last. The food and service were superb; but the best part was meeting and talking with the owner Chris (who also owns Chop Bar and everyone knows what a great place that is ). Chris is a marvelous ambassador for his restaurants-very friendly and quite charming. I predict Lungomare will equal the success of Chop Bar. Get to Lungomare pronto-you won't regret it!"

  • "We got there right on time for our 10 a.m. Brunch we got seated right away in a preferred table with a view of the estuary right under the palm trees. The food was fantastic the Bloody Marys were spicy and yummy and I couldn't ask for a better restaurant. the service was impeccable constantly asking to refill our coffee and asking to see if we were doing okay I would give that 5 guys alone. Afterwards we walked right out the gate and lie down in the grass under the palm tree that was just beautiful there was a farmers market going that had wonderful choices of food and we had plenty of time to get our 2 p.m. Matinee at the Roda theater in Berkeley."

  • "If you want to eat outside or even inside with a view of the water, you can't beat Lungomare. Food is also very fresh, menu changes daily and is reasonably priced. We shared 4 appetizers and that was plenty for a delicious meal. Our waiter was friendly and the service was very good."

  • "We chose to eat at Lungomare because it was on Jack London Square. The outside dining was lovely! We ate lightly and only shares two dishes. The burrata and smoked salmon appetizer was delightful. We also split the vegetarian panini. Unfortunately, the crust on the bottom was soggy and the sandwich fell apart. The flavors were mild with no hint of the promised goat cheese. I'd come again, but only for wine and apps."

  • "Lungomare was new to us so thought we would try it with a party of six. It was a delight - all of us agreed that the dishes we selected were some of the best in the Bay Area! We shared the Frito Misto - most overcook it - but Lungomare got it perfect just as they did the Grilled Asparagus appetizer. Each of the main courses was a wonderful blend of flavors and each guest commented about how good it all was. We all agreed that this may be our new favorite restaurant in the East Bay - no need to go to SF for great food. The service was very, very good from the time we walked into the restaurant. The waiter was friendly, efficient and spent just the right amount of time attending to us."

  • "Celebrated our 41st wedding with family. All six of us had a wonderful dinning experience with the waiter's suggestion on appetizers and dinner entrees. Being Monday night, it was not as crowded when we were there on a Friday or Sunday Brunch. Will be back for sure."

  • "Excellent service and delicious food. I will return for sure."

  • "I want to like Lungomare - but after two visits I would say that while the food is consistently good, the service is consistently bad, and the atmosphere is somewhere in between... It doesn't seem to have a real identity, and the space is very spread out and inconsistent in feel - even our window seat near the back, with a water view, did not feel romantic or cozy. The server did not greet us for quite a few minutes, and then without an apology or even a smile. He really could have been warmer and friendlier - it would have gone a long way in improving our impression of the restaurant. With so many very good restaurants in the East Bay, I cannot say that I will return to Lungomare, or recommend it to others..."

  • "At $32 the rib eye was fatty and not that good. It was resting on the mash potatoes, turning them into a fat gooey mess. Wait staff a little on the slow side, but us not too bad for others intolerable. Salads were fresh and tasty."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Service was lacking and disorganized. Inside the noise level was high...they need to put in noise reducing ceiling. Food was fair ...pizza was not very good, smoked salmon was stinky smelling, salmon salad the same...the only good dish was prosciutto salad."

  • "We go to Lungomare pretty regularly because we have a largeish group of people who go out each weekend for brunch. Lungomare can always accommodate us, and their servers are super flexible about adding more people to our party, and multiple methods of payment. The service isn't always that responsive, and it seems like the food runners at Lungomare are either overworked or confused. We don't go for a five star service experience, we go for good food and cocktails, and to hang out a while. The view can't be beat. I REALLY wish they hadn't been smoking pork out front though. The restaurant smelled of smoke, and all of us reeked when we left. I had to have everything I was wearing washed, and couldn't stand the smell of pork in my hair."

  • "Don't be put off by a kind of plastic-looking facade as part of the hotel. The menu is creative and diverse. Great gluten free options. Excellent wine list. Wonderful location on the water with plenty of out door seating. The indoor dining ambience was pretty drab plastic looking but again the food, service, and location were excellent."

  • "Sunday wine down dinners are a great value. The only complaint is the online menu will be different from what is available"
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "Went for the Sunday Wine Down Dinner, which seems like a very good deal. Service was good but uneven: our waitress was excellent -- knew her stuff, made substitutions as requested, etc., but the busing staff were not so good -- cleared my plate and left the table when my companion had maybe 2 bites to go, had trouble arranging things on the table, stepped on my companion's foot (and did not notice)... The food was quite good, within reach of very good but not quite there. The chicken was flavorful and moist but on the salty side, and how can a half chicken not have a breast? We will definitely give this one another try; there were a number of items on the menu besides what we ordered that we would like to sample."

  • "Great beer and in riddle food prepared for this dinner.. The chef did a remarkable job showcasing chatteuterie, cheese and the best corn polenta I have ever had, the halibut and individual strawberry rhubarb tart was also great and the bison beer, especially the honey/basil and chocolate stouts were great paired with the dishes"

  • "I was having a working week-night dinner at Lungomare for my board of directors' quarterly meeting. We decided to be seated inside so that we could conduct our meeting. Outside, the tables were filled with diners enjoying the wonderful weather, food, and drink. As a cocktail, I had the Mandarin Creme Soda. For dinner, I had the grilled octopus appetizer and the squid ink chitarra which both were simply fabulous. I will come back again to try other menu items I eyed. The attentiveness of the servers was excellent, too! The servers/wait staff made sure we had everything we needed to make our dining experience pleasurable."

  • "We went on Memorial Day for a birthday dinner. The bar was packed but we were seated inside in the empty restaurant. After five minutes, the waiter came to take our drink order. Five minutes later, he was back without drinks to take our dinner order. We asked for the drinks first. He returned five minutes later to say they were not ready. We again ask for the drinks first. They never came. After waiting another ten minutes, we left."

  • "My lunch event with my daughter in law almost had a terrible beginning. A homeless person threw a container of liquid that smell of alcohol onto the outdoor patio; the contents splashed onto two diners, and struck the table we were almost seated at. For some reason, I asked to be seated at the next table. Fortunately, my daughter in law as not hit by the object, but would have been had when sat at the original offered table. Instead her blouse was slightly splashed by the horrible contents. Fortunately the outside air dried the splash which was minimal and we preceded to have a wonderful lunch. Out servicer AJ was very efficient and personable!"

  • " Food is kind of blah. Service poor...we sat for quite a while w/o attention. Waiter never asked us if we wanted coffee or dessert. We just left and went elsewhere for the rest of our meal. Nice location, but would not return. "

  • "Had brunch here twice in the last month, once on Mothers Day where the buffet was fantastic - and not that expensive. And the second with a group of friends. Wonderful patio, beautiful location, friendly staff, and delicious food (great choices like poached egg over softshelled crab, a shrimp-asparagus frittata, and duck eggs). Plus Jack London Square is a treat - amazing Farmer's Market on Sundays."

  • "Server was very attentive to our needs. Very attentive!! Bus service also great. Only negative was the amount of food. Had some hungry 25 years in our party who did not get enough to eat. Salmon and chicken was great but came alone without any sides."

  • "Lots of appetizers on the menu--some inventive plates. House-made pastas, can be gluten-free, too. Some of the flavors were almost too intense, too rich. Nice to have wines on tap. Parking available in a garage nearby."

  • "Italian dishes done the way Italians make them. Seafood stew without hunks of fish; just whole prawns, octopus, mussels, and clams. The best in the Bay Area. Interesting wines and sides. Good portion sizes. Friendly service near the waterfront. "

  • "Party of 8 for an early dinner on a weeknight. So the restaurant was not busy at all, which translated into attentive service. We had a drink on their patio space--nice firepit, comfy seating. Our server was great. The mussels, the pork chop, the linquine with prawns, the hangar steak...all looked and tasted delicious. For starters we had a beet salad, grilled asparagus, prosciutto with salad, kale with almonds as a side. Generally speaking, anything salad/greens-related was under-dressed--which left things tasting a bit lackluster. I think with some tinkering, the dishes would be elevated. The star dessert was the olive oil strawberry short cake--delicious, different and the group favorite. Would come back again. Hope it sticks around!"
