Diner Reviews
  • "Great brunch! Plenty of vegetarian options. Nice $2.00 mimosas and Bloody Mary. Best omelette we ever had! Service a bit sketchy. Took awhile to get any coffee or drinks after being seated. However there was a party going on so that may be why. Buffet offered enough options without being overwhelming. Can't wait to try for dinner!"

  • "We were highly disappointed in this restaurant. First my husbands food came out completely wrong. This was after waiting an hour after our appetizers. Then they promised it out in 2 minutes. It was gluten free pasta so clearly his dish was just given the leftover pasta. It was very small. They ten added extra clams which were very fishy & gross"

  • "The food is excellent, I will give it the 5 stars it deserves for that. Otherwise, I felt very pressured by our waitress to hurry up and order followed by the hurry up to eat/order dessert/pay. The place wasn't packed by any means so i'm not sure what her rush was as it didn't seem to us she had many other tables. At one point the water server spilled my water all over me and another waitress came along and made a joke that we caused an accident. It wasn't even anyone at my table that did that, so I felt like that wasn't a funny joke. I came here with friends for an enjoyable evening but it felt more like we were being watched."

  • "After numerous dinners at Lunellos in Cedar Grove (formerly in Totowa) I was expecting great things. I can't say I was disappointed however, it is much more casual and understated. I suppose that is the intent so it has achieved its goal. The atmosphere was casual and the food was good. The service was good, not refined but good. They serve pizza and have a separate bar menu but I would not consider it a pizza joint. It has the flavor of a country Inn and a limited but comprehensive menu. I believe they are attempting to cater to a wide group of dinners and from what I can tell it does just that. I will go back to sample more items from their menu before I pass judgment from our one experience."

  • "We were there on a Saturday at 5:30 - the place filled up very quickly, all with big groups, it seems. If you want to go as a couple to enjoy a meal together, go someplace else, unless you don't want to hear what your partner was saying. The food was pretty good though they were out of veal (at 5:30 pm on a Saturday??) and I had to change my order. I far prefer their other location in Cedar Grove/Little Falls. Would not go back."

  • "Food and service was good. Very noisy, drinks were pricey. If your looking for quiet and romantic, this place is not it!"

  • "Make a reservation in advance. They go fast. While the regular menu has some great dishes, try the variety of daily specials. These are excellent."

  • "I really love the ambiance in this restaurant. You feel like you are away in an Inn in upstate NY. The menu is varied and there is something for everyone whether you are looking for a light dinner or a more lavish romantic one. The service was outstanding. The server and manager were regularly checking in to make sure all was to our liking. The food is very good and especially like the homemade banana sorbet for dessert. We look forward to bringing the rest of our family to dine there again soon."

  • "Food was very good, drinks pricy for location, service excellent. At times difficult to hear people at table - noise volumes high."

  • "I found the food to be different but the menu limited in selections. Desert, bread pudding was out of this world!!!!!!"

  • "Table was a restrictive deuce with zero privacy and in the walk-way. It was tolerable. What can you do? Someone has to get it. No tablecloth! okay_but your prices reflect more< not less> we were approached by to many people to many times> plates were removed when to other person was not finished the duck was excellent but was served without a starch> fine but it made me feel like i was being forced to buy a side the room was hot! and uncomfortable even for my wife who is always cold"

  • "7 of us went on a Thursday night to celebrate a special birthday. Service was excellent and the food even better. Diners ranged from picky teens to seasoned foodies and everyone found something they really enjoyed. Will be back."

  • "We had a party of 10 for a 50th birthday dinner. In the reservation I had mentioned the birthday in the comments section but nothing special was offered. I was also a little disappointed in the service, soft drinks were ordered and never delivered. The wait staff only came to our table when we flagged them down, they were not very attentive. Otherwise the food and drink we're very good!"

  • "We have tried this restaurant 3 times after it became Lunellos. The first time we thought the food was bad. We decided to give it another shot the second time we liked it. Went back one more time, the food was terrible. I am sad to say we will not be back. The food was wonderful when the restaurant was the Montville Inn when Lunellos came in the food went down hill."

  • "I brought my wife here for Valentine's Day and we had a perfect experience; great food, fine service, and affordable pricing in a pleasant atmosphere. What more can anyone ask for? And...it was only 2 to 3 miles from home. Excellent dining night out; we had a wonderful time. Thank you, Lunello's Inn."

  • "The original Lunello's is one of my favorite restaurants. They prepare fish better than most any place I know. We were happy to learn they were coming to Montville. While some of the great things done at Luncello's I remain, this was disappointing. Salads and soups were all good. Lunch choices, not so. Not sure they are paying the same attention to detail as the original. I ordered grouper which was overcooked and simply put, disappointing. Lamb sliders were dry. Just hoping this was a bad day. I will go back and hope for better the next time."

  • "It was a great experience! My only negative comment would be, that the wine list is very pricey. It is however, a great selection of wines, but I would have preferred a few more reasonably priced wine. Other that that we enjoyed dinner."

  • "8:00 reservation turned into sitting at 8:40. Although our bread and butter came quickly and was very good, 2 of the items we wanted they were out of. (one being a special) not very good for a Saturday night. It was also so noisy we couldn't hear each other speak. Won't be back there any time soon."

  • "The service was awful. The food was less than mediocre. There were no apologies for the poor service."

  • "Service quite slow, we had to fetch the waiter to place our order. Very loud in restaurant. It was a busy night. Salad was an insalata misto - instead of a light vinaigrette it had a blue cheesy type of thing which was too heavy. Just a dash of a vinaigrette is all that type of salad needs. The lettuce was fresh and nice. My small pizza was a little thick, thick slices of sausage where on a pizza, thinner is nice. Not much flavor - no garlicy olive oil kind of flavor, just tomato sauce sausage cheese, again, nothing special. The others said their food was okay. The filet mignon was cooked correctly, medium rare, but was dry. The guests we brought didn't finish their meals of chicken and short beef ribs. We didn't get dessert"

  • "Love the historic atmosphere, however, the food left much to be desired...not that great given the prices. I understand it was a holiday, however, we had to wait an hour after our reservation time, even though we arrived an hour prior to. They gave our table away at the time of our reservation to a party that just walked in for their reservation at the same time as ours. Annoying. The porch is great in the summertime for drinks and hors d'oeuvres."

  • "We were a party of four and we had 8:00 reservations. We were greeted immediately and our jackets were taken. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. For a New Years eve I was a bit surprised to find that there weren't any magnificent appetizers added to the menu for the evening. We did not order an appetizer as a result. Our meals were served in a timely manner. I thought the vegetable served with my husband's steak was quite bar and I would have expected more. I ordered clams with linguine and had many empty clam shells in my dish. Some of the clams had fallen out, nevertheless I didn't expect that to be so noticeable. We did order desert which was very good. I would recommend this restaurant and dine again in the future."

  • "I recently dined with my family for a Sunday lunch. There were very few reasonably priced options. Moreover, the one request we had was a candle in the dessert and even though we called in advance and spoke to the maitre'd, they didn't do it. Wishing for a better Sunday brunch/lunch place in the area!"

  • "I ordered two signature dishes which were both too salty. Both dishes were pretty much edible :( _ on a positive note the drinks were good."

  • "This was our 2nd time dining here. The food is really fantastic. The building is quite charming. I'm not sure why they don't use their beautiful fireplace, however. It was very cold out and not in use (otherwise I would have given " ambiance" full star credit!). "Service" could use a bit more organization but was still good. The desserts are terrific. If you order the cookie bar, make sure you ask them to warm it before serving. The white chocolate bread pudding is heavenly. The short ribs are amazing."

  • "We had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner at Lunello's. Dinner for 6. Food and service was spectacular. Was a very busy night there; however, we were seated promptly, service was impeccable and food was delicious. Wait staff was very friendly without being intrusive. This was my 3rd time there, and we would definitely go back. Whether for a romantic dinner or group of friends or family, I would highly recommend Lunello's!"

  • "We had xmas eve dinner there and it was an overall excellent experience. Food was great. There were excellent options, and we were thrilled that they did not have a limited holiday menu! Servers were festive and on point despite the crowd and full house. Food times were only a tad slow considering how busy it was and the quality was very good. The restaurant itself is rustic, charming, and adorable. Looking forward to dining on a regular weekend! Highly recommended."
