You cannot walk by a new restaurant without noticing it. Especially if it is a cute little Italian place on the Upper East side. Open only a year so far, LUNA ROSSA is a hit in the neighborhood. The long time Chef of Bella Blu and Petaluma, Paolo Floess and partner Domenico Narducci merged in this… wonderful experience after working together many years for the same company. Chef Paolo's cuisine is a blend of contemporary and traditional dishes from all 20 regions of Italy. There is also a great selection of exquisite wines from north to south of Italy. The atmosphere is very relaxing and mellow, decorated with fine art work and delicate colors. "Great place! We just happened upon it, but truly enjoyed it's cozy feel. Food was terrific and so was the service. Only ordered wine by the glass, but it was very good and the list was good as well. Forgot my scarf on the way out and the waiter chased me down the street to return it! Great little neighborhood place!"

"What a lovely trattoria to have in the neighborhood. A selection of salads, appetizers, pasta’s and main dishes that will satisfy all tastes. The beet salad was nicely tossed with a citrus dressing, the mozzarella and tomatoes creamy, eggplant thinly sliced in a chunky tomato sauce, pasta puttanesca nice and spicy, black pasta with crab meat and chunky tomato sauce all delicious. Desserts tasty – the chocolate cake light and rich. Service was pleasant and we were not rushed. We will go back."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner for three persons at Luna Rossa on Sunday evening. The food was delicious and our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The menu offered many interesting choices. Our desserts in particular were outstanding. The décor with its bright original paintings of the city's buildings added to the warmth and pleasure of the experience."

"This is the 2nd time we have eaten here and unfortunately would not return.

Food was average but the main problem was the service. Our friend is on a very strict diet and asked for steamed spinach. She took one bite and knew they had prepared it with oil. When questioned, the waiter said that it was steamed and then sauteed in garlic and oil. This makes no sense at all because it's usually one or the other. She told him she could not eat it this way and grabbed the dish away saying "fine". Our other friend asked if he could substitute vegetable for the potato. He was told no,but he could pay for a side dish which is what he ended up doing. He made a request that the potatoes not be served at all, but it was."

"It is the reigning Italian restaurant in the area. They care, and it's evident in all they do. For instance, many places have good food, but Luna Rossa's food has that indefinable quality that makes it not only good, but special.

As for service, they are unparalleled. It doesn't matter who you are, how well you're dressed or whether or not you're a regular -- they make everyone feel welcome and important.

Several words that come to mind are "warm, sincere, excellent, rare." Give them a chance to impress you."

"We chose Luna Rossa for our Valetine's Day dinner! It was amazing! From the staff to the meal, it was such a nice experience....I cannot wait to go back for the Gnocchi, so deliscious....one of the best Italian places on the Upper East Side!!"

"Lovely, cheerful decor, the food was excellent. However, no one knew about being a participant for Restaurant month which is listed on Open Table. The entrees for lunch w/ the exception of their specials, were reduced by half so the financial benefit was fine."
