Diner Reviews
  • "I went here with my parents, cousin, and aunt and uncle for brunch. I made a reservation (do this for any large group, drop in waits were an 1-1.5 hours for Saturday brunch, but that's SF). The cancellation policy for 6+ people is VERY strict ($10 a person). Service was slow, but it's a large restaurant and it was packed. The Bloody Marys were good, but they didn't know what a Michelada was. I got the fried egg sandwich which was bland and I could have made a better one at home. The potatoes were really good.My dad got the goat cheese fondue and it was good, thick and creamy, and served beautifully with bread and apples. My cousin had chicken and waffles. The chicken had bones, but was really good. My uncle had eggs benedict and he loved it"

  • "Loved the food, the service, and the friendly staff, but the noise level was beyond normal. There are a couple of booths near the kitchen, where we were happily seated. If we had stayed in the main room, we would have not enjoyed our dinner. Perhaps it is a reflection of our advanced age, but we can't handle these decibel levels."

  • "The food was good but I felt like both my Mac n cheese and the huckleberry crisp had a stick of butter too many in them. Good wine list."

  • "We had a wonderful brunch. As usual, the Trois Popovers were outstanding, and our server was delightful and very engaging."

  • "We have lived in the neighborhood for years and after an experience a few years ago at Luna Park where the service was terrible and the food mediocre we avoided it as there are so many other places to eat in the Mission. It remained open and so, curious, we decided to try it again on a night where they were offering a 1/2 price deal. What could we lose? Turns out, nothing! The service was fantastic. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He made good suggestions for menu items and wine. We loved the squid potato main course along with the fried brussels sprouts starter and the tricolore salad, all delectable. Next time I want to try the lamb meatballs! New neighborhood fave."

  • "I love the ambience here - dark wood and hip music. And the food is awesome as well. Never been less than happy with the service. Highly recommend the chocolate chip bread pudding!"

  • "I live only a few blocks away, been there many times. This was the worst service I've experienced most anywhere, and I've said that a few other times about my visits to Luna Park. Unfortunately for them my friends were not impressed either. Why do I go back? Not for the service, or attitude, which, can honestly, be good most times. The food. is. good. - burger with bacon, blue cheese, fondue appetizer, other dishes I've had there. Lots of veggie options. Big desserts if you're sweet tooth is wanting."

  • "The menu is 100% delicious! AND they have bottomless mimosas....do I need to say more?"

  • "This place is super loud for even brunch. The $15 bottomless mimosas helps the barely palatable food, but doesn't help the exorbitant tab for this low caliber food. The soggy chips in chilaquiles were pretty gross."

  • "Luna park never fails. Have eaten here many times and I've never been disappointed. The noise level is pretty high. But I mainly go here for the food and the drinks. Wait-staff is polite and pleasant and the place consistently offers mouth-watering cuisine."

  • "Friday night, we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Restaurant was annoyingly loud. We usually come for brunch or week day nights and enjoy good ambience and service. The food was very good as always but things like getting a second glass of wine or coffee actually served with and not after dessert just didn't happen. Our waiter was very detached and pretty much unavailable unless we sent one of the bus people to find him. It may have been understaffed that night, but even the usual banter one enjoys with a waiter just did not seem like something he liked to do. Too bad. We will probably go back for brunch, which we rated higher in every category but not for Friday night dinner any time soon."

  • "I've never had a bad meal at Luna Park. We ordered the prix-fix 3 course dinner, and everything was great, especially the mussels and fries, and the crisp dessert. There was way too much food for one meal, so ended up bringing home lunch for the next day. This place is always a treat. I hope it stays that way. I only wish parking was a bit easier in the neighborhood."

  • "We had a fabulous time at Luna Park. We all came together on March 1st so that my bridal party can all meet one another and mingle while sipping on Mimosas :) Service, food, and ambience was amazing. Love coming to Luna Park."

  • "Went for brunch this past Sunday, and it was utterly fantastic. Food was great, and bottomless mimosas were quality (and strong). A great place to take friends."

  • "We had a party of 6. I recommend a table instead of a booth. We had a table.Service was excellent and food was just as good. A little pricey, but worth it."

  • "Food was ok, but the mid-day drink deals are pretty awesome. I would make reservations in advance if you have a group otherwise be prepared to wait!! Bottomless Mimosa and Sangria :)"

  • "The extra tables crammed in there ruined it for us. It was valentines day, I get you're trying to make money, but sitting with two other couples an inch apart was not at all ok. Especially when we made a reservation and MULTIPLE BOOTHS were open when we arrived. The food this night was also not as good as previous times we've been there. Also. The women's bathroom was locked the whole time I was there - had to use the men's - yuuuckkkk."

  • "We arrived to our Valentines Day reservations early. They wanted to seat us right away at a table we didn't want, so we said we prefer to would wait until our reservation time. No problem; we'd wait at the bar and have a cocktail. The curly-haired hostess *lectured* us that every person in the restaurant had reservations, and was unimpressed when I said we had reservations, too. Just as we settled into the bar, she came and got us, saying someone had canceled and we could have a different table. (This was about the time we should have arrived, so I honestly think she thought it was us who canceled). Once seated, the waitress told us we were known to be "particular" in our orders, and we were stuck with that stigma for the rest of the night."

  • "I've been here several times and have even taken an out-of-town guest here because I liked the food and the service so much. The food was so-so this time, the service was lacking, and the place was tellingly not busy on a Saturday night. Gone downhill."

  • "So many excellent choices within two blocks. Not one of four had a good meal. Even the hamburger was bad. Our waitress had an attitude. Not happy eaters."

  • "Service was very friendly, quick and attentive. Food was warm and inviting. However, sangria was boring and tasteless, might have well have ordered Lipton iced tea."

  • "We choose Luna Park for a birthday celebration/girls reunion (one of our party was from out of town), and they gave us a back booth so we could talk since the noise level in the main area is really high. Our server was just great, extremely accomodating and got us everything we needed. The food was good, had the tri-colore and chopped salad, artichoke, and spicy string beans for 1st courses. Two of us had the tuna for an entree and that was tasty, even though I felt the earthy mushrooms and sauce overpowered the tuna. We shared desserts and the brownie sundae and coconut cream pie were a hit with the group. Our dinner lasted over 3 hours and we had a great time!"

  • "Been here a hundred times, always a place to take guests, and this time I took a very quiet newborn baby and friend. The food is always great, but the service this visit was probably the best service I've had at Luna Park, even with a baby at the table. They were nice, attentive, and very kind. Will continue to go to Luna Park again and again."

  • "I've been told that Luna Park is best for breakfast and brunch but I had a great dinner experience there. The food was tasty and the ambiance was quiet and romantic."

  • "Went in for a Saturday brunch with a friend and found the experience very average. Both the food and the service. Nothing was great; it was not bad, just very mediocre. The service was less than desired. They were not particularly attentive; although they understood that the seat they placed us in was a problem, they did nothing to resolve the problem they were more concerned about fitting as many as they could in space. I would not recommend to friends, even in a crunch for last minute reservations."

  • "'Took a long time Alaskan friend to Luna Park for a Friday lunch, and she enjoyed it. My wife and I have been there several times in the past, usually for dinner or special occasion meals with other friends. This lunch experience was different because you could actually carry on conversation. There were only 3 of us this time, and I had made reservations that the place would be full, but we were pleasantly surprised and, in fact, catching up on old times was the point of the luncheon rendezvous. The food and drinks were good, as always, and we love the ambiance and causalness of the place. The Mission holds a lot of good and diverse eateries, but Luna Park remains one of our favorites----though prices had increased since the previous visit."

  • "We went to Luna Park on a Saturday evening and the food did not disappoint however, the service certainly did. The restaurant was full yet, only one waitress appeared to be on staff. While the food was timely, the drink orders were so slow that we had to repeatedly ask about the status and our meal was almost finished before our wine appeared. Our waitress ran into an issue opening our wine and was quick to apologize and left to remedy the situation. She came back and was serving the wine when her manager had the gall to place the broken cork in front of her on our table before all of us. We were shocked at the inappropriateness and wish his attention would have been on helping service our table instead."

  • "Luna Park is a great causal but still nice place to dine out. The service from the bar feels a bit disconnected from the food service."
    Dined on 1/2/2014
  • "The food was very mediocre and the server lost interest immediately after hearing we just wanted some small things to share and only one of us was drinking. Dessert could have been good (brownie sundae) but it was covered in so many nuts (?) that you couldn't taste anything else. All in all- pretty lame."

  • "The food tasted great and they have healthy menu choices. We had to wait for our table FOREVER and the wait staff was super apologetic and ended up going above and beyond to make it up to us once we were seated. Would go back for the food. The place was just really hopping and full. Fun atmosphere and good drinks."

  • "Same day reservation not a problem. Had a group of 7 for dinner. Food was very good all around, drinks were even better! Service very good and attentive without being a pain. One suggestion would be to turn up the lighting a little, had trouble reading the menu and the bill. All in all a very nice evening."

  • "A huge and delicious sandwich, easily feeds 2. We also liked the goat cheese fondue and the salad of arugula and grapes. the vinaigrette was good. The large table next to us was very noisy but the food far from made up for the sound."

  • "My family Christmas Eve tradition for the last 5 years is to celebrate with a nice dinner and vibrant ambiance at Luna Park. The food & service have yet to disappoint me."

  • "I can imagine this place was once a popular brunch destination, but it seems tired with quite mediocre food. Given all the great restaurants in SF, it's a wonder they are still making it at all. I would not return."

  • "A lively crowd packed the place on Christmas Eve. The prix fixe menu featured classic holiday courses and looked delicious. We instead decided to try the regular menu, and had grilled ahi tuna with wild mushrooms, and pan fried trout. Both entrees were perfectly done, both in terms of temperature and preparation of the fish. Keeping the seafood theme, we started with salt cod fritters, which were just OK. If you are looking for an ample spectrum of entree options, this is not the place or you. They keep the menu simple. However, everything we watched come out of the kitchen was visually appetizing and well-executed."

  • "We have always been fans of this restaurant but will not be going back because they tried to charge us double for drinks that were clearly listed on the menu with their price. The owner arbitrarily decided to charge us "the original price" ($25 for two drinks!) although the price on the menu was clearly stated as 2 for $12.50. It came as an unpleasant surprise on the check, and so we haggled about the price for a good 15-20 minutes after the meal. It ruined the entire experience for us, despite the fact that the food and server were good. The owner obviously doesn't know good customers when she sees them and doesn't care. Won't be going back."
