Diner Reviews
  • "Had a great experience eating here the other night. Food was amazing and service was great. The pork belly appetizer was really good and the scallops where made perfectly"

  • "The food, service, and ambiance were perfect. Out server was Daniel and he was outstanding in every way as well as personable. He made the experience above and beyond just a great dinner with atmosphere."

  • "We were celebrating a special occasion and wanted to try an upscale restaurant with good food, but not a stuffy environment. The patio at Luminarias looked pretty, however it was a chilly evening and we decided to dine inside.I would have preferred to sit at a cozy, romantic booth, and while there were booths open, they seated us at a table near the entrance. This was the only downside to the evening. The service was impeccable and friendly. Both the waitress and the bartender, were professional but not overbearing or snobbish. The food was delicious, and the prices albeit a bit high, were comparable to other elegant hotel restaurants.Overall, for very good food and excellent service,it was a very good experience.Recommend for special occasions."

  • "We had been here before, and were glad we returned with friends. The food was really excellent, and the service was quite good. We had dined on the patio previously, and would do it again in a minute if it had been a bit warmer."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner at Luminaria, which in Europe would qualify for a Michelin star. However prices are high and the wine list is somewhat overrated ( in dollars). Service impeccable. Will return."

  • "LUMINARIA was always a"safe bet" for a pleasant meal and enjoyable outdoor dining. Their "new menu" is quite remarkable. They were a bit short on waitstaff. Our waitperson, Daniel was excellent, but overworked and therefore not as available as we would have liked."

  • "We had a date night at Luminaria, we hadn't tried it before. The patio is beautiful, it is hidden in the alcove between the chapel and the hotel and it is beautifully decorated. Our server, Aimee was FANTASTIC! She worked with us to find something on the menu that would work for our dietary restrictions. The food was amazing - the salmon tartar was especially yummy. The roasted potatoes, corn, and peppers that came a a side to the bison tenderloin were delicious!"

  • "When in Santa Fe... This restaurant is a MUST if you appreciate qualitative food, top rate local ingredients and above all a chef who is one of the best in the area. Wine list will offer a good array of pairings at a price most restaurants in Santa Fe. charge. Aimee and Stephanie were our servers. Servers can make or break a dining experience. Both of these charming ladies are the best."

  • "Sous vide rabbit had tender dark but dry breast meat. Molecular fruits delightful. Excellent Manhatten, fois gras, bread, sparkling New Mexico wine. Need more NM wines. Pleasant sunset evening on patio edge."

  • "Haute cuisine in the high desert. Quality comparable to restaurants on either coast but with southwestern hospitality."

  • "My husband and I had so many favorite on the old menu. The new one seems to be very meat/poultry oriented. We LOVED the salmon, the Grilled Romaine Salad, and other items. We probably won't return to Luminaria for dinner."

  • "Luminaria has a new chef who has just introduced a new menu in the last couple of weeks. While very different from their old menu, the dishes I and my party have tried on two occasions were all delicious, interesting combinations but not overly fussy. The pork belly appetizer is a must!"

  • "One of my favorite outdoor settings to dine on Santa Fe. Creative menu of interesting dishes. Service was a bit slow. But it was an otherwise lovely time. I'm returning there for dinner tomorrow evening!"

  • "Luminaria is still one of the most beautiful restaurants we know but, somehow, the quality of the food has gone down. There were three of us. My husband ordered the pork chop and it looked gray and was both tasteless and tough. I had the scallops, probably the best dish among us...the scallops sweet tender, sitting on top of small crab cakes. And our guest had the halibut, which was simply "okay." The food no longer lives up to the very spectacular atmosphere. Still, for a beautiful even, go, sit outside on the patio, and enjoy the ambiance. It's still an excellent lunch spot."

  • "The food is wonderful, however the service is not! Expect to repeat your order several times and it still not come out correctly...even if you order straight off the menu without any changes! Not to mention the hostess is slow to seat people and seems disorganized. However it is still a fabulous restaurant with amazing food and worth a visit."

  • "Love going to Luminaria with great green chile cheese burger, service and ambience. Portions are generous, food is delicious and service is great."

  • "After all the hype I expected more. This restaurant is lovely. We sat outdoors in perfect evening weather and the setting couldn't be beat. However, the service, while very polite and highly skilled, was glacial: it took 20 minutes for my glass of wine to arrive. The food was imaginative and tasty, but my halibut was both overcooked and cold, and my husband's duck dish was also a little overcooked and tough. I don't know what was going on in the kitchen or in the management that night, but it didn't meet expectations."

  • "My wife and I dined at this wonderful restaurant on a quick stop in Santa Fe. It was great! The ambience was special, the service was great (Aimee) and the food outstanding. I would highly recommend Luminaria. Be sure to request an outdoor table."
    Dined on 7/23/2014
  • "Great outdoor setting, but food only average and some items a bit pretentious. "Brined" duck breast was way too salty. Service was very pleasant. Good place, but not quite up to standards of several Santa Fe restaurants."

  • "The salad with ahi tuna was great. I always have a hard time deciding between that salad or the grilled romaine salad with shrimp."

  • "Sat out on the patio under the big 'tent'. Evening was lovely, the food was exceptional in flavor and presentation. The menu was interesting and the ingredients were fresh and of very good quality. It's one of our favorite restaurants in SF. We are never disappointed and highly recommend to family and friends. We heading back later this week :)"

  • "Very good food but the service was slow and haphazard. Noise level a bit high. Still Luminaria is a great place for a nice dinner or lunch."

  • "We were seated out side until hail and rain storm. Amy got right on it to get us a table inside. Quite an experience all around. Cena Pronto was delish. Perfect... thank you."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary dinner at Luminaria and the food was fantastic. We have been coming every year or so and it was much better than last year! The chile rellenos and endive and mache salad were fabulous and used local ingredients. My only suggestion is that you try and make it by 6:30 for the set course meal as its a good price! I think they should offer it later than 6:30 as we have missed it twice. Also try not to be there towards the end of the night. We waited forever for our desert and no waiters were to be found. The manager was very kind and gave us a card for a free item next time we dine. We will definitely be back but this time before 6:3 for the set meal :)"

  • "Very good value and delightful dining experience. Will put this restaurant on my a list."

  • "What a lovely, romantic setting to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary. The hostess scattered rose petals over our table to celebrate with us. Our server, Melissa, was professional and efficient. She brought us a complimentary glass of delicious champagne to start our evening. We selected a half bottle of Dry Creek Cab to enhance my 14 oz luscious New York strip and my husband's short rib. The food was excellent - the wine a perfect accompaniment. The restaurant was very conducive to a romantic evening. we will DEFINTELY choose Luminaria again for special evenings!"

  • "Had 2 breakfasts and one dinner. Breakfast is rather expensive (but that is true of most Santa Fe hotel restaurants) -- but not as good as La Posada. For dinner, the ambiance was nice, but food was not distinguished. I had the relleno from the Prix Fixe menu, and it was only OK. It needed to be hotter (temperature), and the flavors were muted. It just seemed a bit tired. My companion had the chicken, which was on the dry side. Service is leisurely. Minor disappointment, overcome, when the waitstaff had to check their watch due to time limits of 5-6:30pm on the Prix Fixe menu -- remove the paper from the menu book if you're too late; don't penalize folks seated a 6:25pm but unable to order until 6:35pm due to slow/limited waitstaff."

  • "Even though it rained while we were dining outside, it did not matter and it neither ruined the food nor the atmosphere. The service folks handled it professionally and we landed inside where the decor is elegant but understated. The service understood before we even had to tell them that we were on the way to the Opera. The food was subtle and flavorful and not over abundant--just right in fact. We had blue corn duck confit with a chili sauce that had just the right notes. My friend had the salmon and I had the Chilean Sea bass which was crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly on the inside. We then had goat cheesecake and the bread pudding which suited both our tastes. The amount of food was perfect and we left there hoping to return!"

  • "Delightful experience! I had thick filet that was incredibly tender. Loved Chef surprise of a crab taste. The wine, food, live music, and service made for an an excellent dining experience."

  • "We went to Luminaria for my wife's birthday. Luminaria gave us a special table, a bit away from all the other tables. There were rose pedals on the table and we were greeted with a (complementary) glass of champagne. The patio is very nice and cozy. The food was very good. The pace was relatively slow, which we like for a special evening out. Be prepared to spend two hours, which is perfect if you have appetizers, a nice bottle and good conversation. Our Lithuanian server Ruta was outstanding. Very discrete and professional. (Not your: "hi, I'm Stacy and I will interrupt your conversations all night...). If you like good food in a nice setting and are not into fast food, this is for you!"

  • "Really enjoyed the patio dining. Had the prix fixe dinner menu- overall enjoyable with above-average food for the area. Had the Blue corn crepe with duck confit as an appetizer. Did not taste like duck, tasted more like pork, but overall the concept was good idea."

  • "My friends and I enjoyed a lovely lunch on the patio. Food quality was excellent and the ambiance did not disappoint. We will definitely return soon."

  • "We spent several days visiting Santa Fe and this was by far our favorite meal. Loved sitting outside, enjoying the lovely weather and wonderful guitarist. Service was impeccable. We started with a delightful amuse-bouche - a prawn in cocktail sauce. Then we shared the Grilled Romaine salad, which was incredible. My husband had the salmon and I had the sea bass, both beautifully presented and delicious. We did not have room for dessert, but were happy to enjoy the chocolate truffles our waiter brought us."

  • "Had a wonderful dinner at Luminaria. It was our last of four nights in Santa Fe and we could not have picked better. The food was truly outstanding and the service was great. We were still celebrating getting married two nights earlier and the restaurant knew and put rose petals on our table and give us champagne. The rack of lamb was prepared perfectly, and the scallop and chorizo appetizer was incredible. The goat cheesecake was out of this world. We really had a great evening from start to finish. All of the staff were very friendly and provided outstanding service. We have eaten at most of the top restaurants in Santa Fe and Luminaria is one of the best. We will go back next time we are in Santa Fe."

  • "We have never been disappointed at Luminaria. The patio is lovely any season but the live music and perfect Santa Fe weather made this year's Father's Day brunch absolutely perfect. Thank you for once again making our family gathering very special!"

  • "The food and the ambience was excellent. The service was unfortunately very poor. The staff was very nice and friendly; however, it took forever to get a drink, let alone the dinner. It's really ashamed, because it put a damper on what would have otherwise been a great dining experience."

  • "The setting and ambiance is always great, winter or summer. The hotel always has a great chef in residence. It's our "go to" place for fine dining as a couple or when entertaining friends from out of town."

  • "One of the best restaurants in Santa Fe in every way. Outstanding atmosphere, service, menu, and food. We sat outside on the beautiful patio. We began with the flash fired squash blossoms stuffed with goat cheese. They were delectable, and everything we ordered was heavenly. You have many choices in Santa Fe for great dining, but don't miss this place. "
