LumiereOne of our favoritesWe adore Lumiere. We've never had a bad meal here. It is consistently outstanding.6/16/2013 12:00:00 AMConsisently fine cuisine. What a restaurant should be--fine dining, well-served.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGREAT restaurantThis is a real gem! It is clearly one of the three best restaurants in the Boston area. Recommend highly to everyone.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMwe love to sit at the barwe love to sit at the bar after a movie, have a salad and in this case, a fabulous soft-shelled crab. Always always great food, really nice bartender, good wine. Can't be beat.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMChef's tasting fantasticMy family of four (one teenage and one 21 year old) celebrated my daughter's birthday at Lumiere. Dinner was amazing - we treated my daughter to the chef's tasting menu with accompanying wines. All of our food (elegantly and creatively spiced steak, bluefish, chicken, soft-shelled crab, halibut tartare, artichoke soup, and of course their famous rhubarb crisp and yogurt panna cotta) was fantastic. We've never been disappointed at Lumiere. Servers are considerate and friendly. All in all - a memorable dining experience.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Dinner!Fabulous food, beautifully presented. We tried the Prix Fixe menu with the wine pairings and loved everything we ordered.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent but PriceyImaginative treatment on a very small menu. Prices too high. Enjoyed it though!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, beautifulExcellent food, beautiful place. I appreciated that tables are well-spaced and the very pleasant ambience. I should have asked that my pork be cooked a bit longer, but I know that sophisticates like it not well done. This was barely med-rare. Great sauce flavors and helpful waiter suggestions.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh Points But UnevenSome dishes were very good, a couple of others not so much. Fish and beef special entrees of the day very good, but the sauce of a scallop appetizer was over spiced and drowned the quality of the scallop and a pork entree was good but not up to the average quality we have come to expect from, this kitchen. Same experiencce with dessert: two were very good, one (special of the day with rhubrab-apple crumble and sour cream ice cream) was OK but not that special. This was perhaps our 6th visit, so we know it a bit but not as regulars.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, great ambienceDelicious food, great ambience and service. Expensive but well worth it. We enjoy celebrating a special occasion with dinner at Lumiere.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMom's birthdayEven though we didn't alert the restaurant to the event (my mother wanted it kept quiet) both she and my father loved everything about the restaurant: the wine, the food, etc. Thanks and kudos to the entire staff at Lumiere who worked on 06.01.13.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWoWI can't believe a place like this exists in west newton. The food was outstanding. We ordered the chief's tastings and each course was prepared from fresh local ingredients with combinations that I've never encountered before. We had a cod ceviche, a sea scallop, a nicely prepared piece of steak, some hot brie like cheese and a rhubarb tart. Each items presented nicely in a unique and complex sauce or vegetable combination. The wine pairings for each course were superb. But in 3 of the 5 courses, the time between the appearance of the wine and the appearance of the food was greater than 5 minutes. I will repeat, the food was outstanding. We will be back.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExtraordinary !Always outstanding food and extraordinary service!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMonce againOnce again we had an exceptional dinner at Lumiere. The menu provides a nice range of choices and a good description of each item. The waiter was helpful with the wine selection and provided prompt service with hurrying us.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMspecial dinneranniversary dinner. My main course(halibut) was excellent, although a little skimpy on the sides. Wife's pork tenderloin was tasty but not her ideal. carb cakes and raspberry dessert excellent. Everything is pricy though5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGood, but not great.Asparagus soup was bland and rather boring. Halibut entree was over-cooked and dry. The blue fish entree was very good. All dishes had interesting seasonings, but they weren't perfectly balanced: Too salty in some cases, in others just not complementing the food properly. On the up-side, the ambiance and service was terrific and the greek yogurt panna cotta dessert and wine parings were excellent!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative seafoodThe most delectable bluefish we have ever experienced! Everything was excellent.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMRepeat visitNever disappoints. Parking can be a hassle but Lumiere is worth it. Melt in your mouth delicious.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time, but I'll be backI don't get out to Newton much, but if I am there again for dinner, I'll definitely be back. Great service, great food5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been to Lumiere manyI have been to Lumiere many times and it is always excellent!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful meal and nice ambiance.Wonderful meal and nice ambiance. Service excellant!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMnot every night but specialFood was excellent as was the service. Each of us agreed upon that. Definitely not inexpensive. A special occasion place for us I think.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!Delish food, attentive and pleasant service. They know where your dinner came from (reminiscent of that Portlandia sketch but in the least pretentious way possible) and its clear they care about quality. The green salad was excellent, as was the asparagus soup and scallop app. The chicken dish and pork were two favorites of the table. Great place to mark a special occasion.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful for a Special OccasionThe restaurant is small (nice intimate feeling) without being cramped. Service was attentive, friendly and informative, food was great. We had the steaks (they had a few different cuts on the menu), pork and chicken, which was the consensus favorite. Crispy skin cooked to perfection. Appetizers were all great (we had one of each) and the chocolate souffle cake was a rich treat. Would highly recommend it for a special occasion.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was wonderful, staffFood was wonderful, staff was knowledgeable and friendly, ambiance left something to be desired. Perhaps because we were seated in the side area near the bathroom, although the restaurant wasn't full. This side area seemed to be full of children and drunk fraternity kids when we arrived. Would still recommend the restaurant but it's best to ask for a seat in the main area.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMincredible service. knowledgeincredible service. knowledge waiter. complimentary amuse bouche and extra dessert dish because he forgot to mention the special
great fries with steak5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGood, but could be betterOne of the better French restaurants in the Boston area, I've always been a fan of Lumiere. Sadly, my last visit last Sunday was not quite up to my standards. Don't get me wrong - the food is still very good, but it's not quite the superb quality that I've experienced during past visits. Their sea scallops were quite good, but the steaks were overcooked (ordered medium rare, got medium well) and somewhat too tough to chew for the presumed meat quality.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMStill a Great Spot!It had been several years since our last visit to Lumiere, so it was wonderful to learn that it is still an excellent restaurant. The food from simple salads through entrees, to dessert was terrific. Seasonings were subtle and added to flavor without dominating. The wine list is fabulous and accessible as it is arranged by taste and other wine characteristics rather than by region or source grape. Service was attentive. The meal was well-timed. All in all and excellent meal and value. We wil return soon.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely but loudA party of six was sat in an area with four person seating, they were loud and almost ruined our dining experience, perhaps they might have seated them closet to the bar, as the elevated part of this room seem to echo5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAs good as it getsLumiere continues to be excellent in every way. The entire experience is as good as any place in Boston.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently excellentThis was our third visit to Lumiere in the past 2 years. The quality of the food, service, and overall dining experience was excellent during each of our meals. The dishes were interesting, thoughtfully-prepared and delicious. The portion sizes are just right. The staff is gracious and well-educated about the food and methods of preparation. We look forward to returning to Lumiere, and we recommend it to our friends.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a lovely experienceWe had a lovely experience at Lumiere. Our entrees were exceptional, and the chocolate dessert (flourless cake with peanut butter ice cream, marshmallow fluff and caramel sauce) I had was one of the best I can remember.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistantly wonderful....A steak tartare special that should be a regular menu item....wonderful flavors! Only wish I'd doubled the order as an entree.
I realy love this special restaurant, and look forward to every visit.
Thank you for another delightful evening.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious, if pricyThe menu at this restaurant changes constantly so make sure to ask your waiter about off-menu items. The chicken dish (morel glaze) was unreal. Perfectly moist and tender, crispy outside, with almost all bones taken out. I'm not always enthusiastic about paying $30 for the chicken dish, but here it was definitely extraordinary.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways charming;knowledgeable staffLumiere has become our "special" place. We have be going there for several years, a least a half dozen times each year. Always a sure thing with a chef's tasting menu that replaces the need to 'have to choose." The unpretentious staff, all of them, are very professional. They know their culinary offering and wine pairings. With years of experience, they create a relaxed, stress-free dining experience to enjoy your company and Lumiere's wonderful servings. You are in for a treat.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLumiere still shinesMy annual spring forage for morels led us to Lumiere, where I had seen a chicken and morel dish on the menu. We we welcomed with an amuse of "beet tartare," minced golden beets atop a tiny slice of cucumber. We shared a side of Freekeh Pilaf as an appetizer. If you've never had this smoky grain, it's worth a try -- and fun to say, too! We both had the wonderful, moist chicken with morels as our entree. It was served atop cheddar grits, and enhanced by spring onions. With it we drank a glass of red wine from Greece, which had a bit of spice and paired well with the Freekeh as well as the chicken. Service was attentive and knowledgeable throughout. Glad to see this suburban restaurant was fully booked on a Tuesday night.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNice food and serviceNice to know that Lumiere keeps the good food and services.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMTook a friend here for a lateTook a friend here for a late Sunday evening. It was a little far out of town but worth the drive. We had the chefs tasting menu with the wine pairings. Was very impressed with the meal given the price. The server, however, acted like he did want us or himself to be there. I know its late on a Sunday night but he made little effort to connect with us. I was not impressed. Each of the courses, however, were great. My favorite was the scallop dish, while the least exciting was the sirloin. I will probably be back.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a lovely place! Doesn'tWhat a lovely place! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the interior is bright and charming. We thoroughly enjoyed the chef's tasting menu - everything was outstanding, wine pairings went well with each dish. Service was friendly without being intrusive. We will be back!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI had read some mixed reviews,I had read some mixed reviews, but the restaurant came highly recommended by trustworthy sources. I am truly glad we went. The food and service were both outstanding. Even the Sazerac cocktail was so well mixed that I stopped by the bartender to ask for his recipe.
Mt greatest regret is that we are out-of-towners and cannot make this restaurant our go-to place.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently WonderfulFor consistency of quality, astounding service and unique fresh taste, there is no better spot around.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLumiere has delicious foodLumiere has delicious food that is beautifully prepared! The service is excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an excellent meal,We had an excellent meal, wonderful service, fair price. We will go there again soon.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMNearly PerfectAs many, we did the chef's tasting menu. The food was great. Each course was beautifully prepared with wonderfully balanced flavors. We were surprised at the degree of Asian influence in the dishes, although it made sense and worked well, especially with the seafood dishes.
We also ordered the wine pairing. It was certainly worth doing. The wines each complemented their dish well. However, we felt that only one of the wines, the Apfel Eis paired with the cheese course, was really the superb pairing, where the food and the wine escalate each other, you hope for out of a pairing like this4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband kindly made reservationsMy husband kindly made reservations for my birthday this year at Lumiere! We had a comfortable seat, fabulous service, and a delicious meal. The only item that I would comment on was the beet salad with walnuts. It was disappointing to me and was more like a coleslaw with too much dressing and too few beets! Pleaes note, the monkfish was a real treat!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a find!My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Lumiere and we're so glad we chose it over other fancier options. We love food and we expect the service to be just as thoughtful and skillful as the meal; we were not disappointed. The restaurant is really casual in a comfortable way and our server, Will, was a gem. He was very knowledgable about the many menu options and worked with the sous chef to accommodate some special requests. Overall, our expectations were exceeded and that doesn't always happen! We can't wait to go back with friends.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner at Lumiere was Amazing.Dinner at Lumiere was Amazing. We had heard wonderful comments about the place and they all cam true. We loved the simple menu full of delicious dishes, it was hard to pick! We had duck and chicken and they were great!
