LumiereGood, but could be betterOne of the better French restaurants in the Boston area, I've always been a fan of Lumiere. Sadly, my last visit last Sunday was not quite up to my standards. Don't get me wrong - the food is still very good, but it's not quite the superb quality that I've experienced during past visits. Their sea scallops were quite good, but the steaks were overcooked (ordered medium rare, got medium well) and somewhat too tough to chew for the presumed meat quality.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMStill a Great Spot!It had been several years since our last visit to Lumiere, so it was wonderful to learn that it is still an excellent restaurant. The food from simple salads through entrees, to dessert was terrific. Seasonings were subtle and added to flavor without dominating. The wine list is fabulous and accessible as it is arranged by taste and other wine characteristics rather than by region or source grape. Service was attentive. The meal was well-timed. All in all and excellent meal and value. We wil return soon.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently excellentThis was our third visit to Lumiere in the past 2 years. The quality of the food, service, and overall dining experience was excellent during each of our meals. The dishes were interesting, thoughtfully-prepared and delicious. The portion sizes are just right. The staff is gracious and well-educated about the food and methods of preparation. We look forward to returning to Lumiere, and we recommend it to our friends.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistantly wonderful....A steak tartare special that should be a regular menu item....wonderful flavors! Only wish I'd doubled the order as an entree.
I realy love this special restaurant, and look forward to every visit.
Thank you for another delightful evening.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a lovely experienceWe had a lovely experience at Lumiere. Our entrees were exceptional, and the chocolate dessert (flourless cake with peanut butter ice cream, marshmallow fluff and caramel sauce) I had was one of the best I can remember.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious, if pricyThe menu at this restaurant changes constantly so make sure to ask your waiter about off-menu items. The chicken dish (morel glaze) was unreal. Perfectly moist and tender, crispy outside, with almost all bones taken out. I'm not always enthusiastic about paying $30 for the chicken dish, but here it was definitely extraordinary.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways charming;knowledgeable staffLumiere has become our "special" place. We have be going there for several years, a least a half dozen times each year. Always a sure thing with a chef's tasting menu that replaces the need to 'have to choose." The unpretentious staff, all of them, are very professional. They know their culinary offering and wine pairings. With years of experience, they create a relaxed, stress-free dining experience to enjoy your company and Lumiere's wonderful servings. You are in for a treat.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLumiere still shinesMy annual spring forage for morels led us to Lumiere, where I had seen a chicken and morel dish on the menu. We we welcomed with an amuse of "beet tartare," minced golden beets atop a tiny slice of cucumber. We shared a side of Freekeh Pilaf as an appetizer. If you've never had this smoky grain, it's worth a try -- and fun to say, too! We both had the wonderful, moist chicken with morels as our entree. It was served atop cheddar grits, and enhanced by spring onions. With it we drank a glass of red wine from Greece, which had a bit of spice and paired well with the Freekeh as well as the chicken. Service was attentive and knowledgeable throughout. Glad to see this suburban restaurant was fully booked on a Tuesday night.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNice food and serviceNice to know that Lumiere keeps the good food and services.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMTook a friend here for a lateTook a friend here for a late Sunday evening. It was a little far out of town but worth the drive. We had the chefs tasting menu with the wine pairings. Was very impressed with the meal given the price. The server, however, acted like he did want us or himself to be there. I know its late on a Sunday night but he made little effort to connect with us. I was not impressed. Each of the courses, however, were great. My favorite was the scallop dish, while the least exciting was the sirloin. I will probably be back.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a lovely place! Doesn'tWhat a lovely place! Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the interior is bright and charming. We thoroughly enjoyed the chef's tasting menu - everything was outstanding, wine pairings went well with each dish. Service was friendly without being intrusive. We will be back!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI had read some mixed reviews,I had read some mixed reviews, but the restaurant came highly recommended by trustworthy sources. I am truly glad we went. The food and service were both outstanding. Even the Sazerac cocktail was so well mixed that I stopped by the bartender to ask for his recipe.
Mt greatest regret is that we are out-of-towners and cannot make this restaurant our go-to place.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLumiere has delicious foodLumiere has delicious food that is beautifully prepared! The service is excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an excellent meal,We had an excellent meal, wonderful service, fair price. We will go there again soon.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMNearly PerfectAs many, we did the chef's tasting menu. The food was great. Each course was beautifully prepared with wonderfully balanced flavors. We were surprised at the degree of Asian influence in the dishes, although it made sense and worked well, especially with the seafood dishes.
We also ordered the wine pairing. It was certainly worth doing. The wines each complemented their dish well. However, we felt that only one of the wines, the Apfel Eis paired with the cheese course, was really the superb pairing, where the food and the wine escalate each other, you hope for out of a pairing like this4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband kindly made reservationsMy husband kindly made reservations for my birthday this year at Lumiere! We had a comfortable seat, fabulous service, and a delicious meal. The only item that I would comment on was the beet salad with walnuts. It was disappointing to me and was more like a coleslaw with too much dressing and too few beets! Pleaes note, the monkfish was a real treat!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a find!My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Lumiere and we're so glad we chose it over other fancier options. We love food and we expect the service to be just as thoughtful and skillful as the meal; we were not disappointed. The restaurant is really casual in a comfortable way and our server, Will, was a gem. He was very knowledgable about the many menu options and worked with the sous chef to accommodate some special requests. Overall, our expectations were exceeded and that doesn't always happen! We can't wait to go back with friends.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner at Lumiere was Amazing.Dinner at Lumiere was Amazing. We had heard wonderful comments about the place and they all cam true. We loved the simple menu full of delicious dishes, it was hard to pick! We had duck and chicken and they were great! Great place!!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AM5 starsgreat place, food was super good. service -super!! 1005 satisfaction.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible food, wait staffIncredible food, wait staff amazing...can't wait to go back!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waiter Will was the bestOur waiter Will was the best waiter we have ever had. We loved him. He was incredibly knowledgable and interesting. He made the experience really memorable. We will be back!!!!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMLumiere never disappoints.Lumiere never disappoints. Waiter was very accommodating with a friend that had dietary restrictions due to Passover, swapping menu items so she could still get the price fixe menu. And the beef carpaccio special was DELICIOUS!3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectWe ordered app, salad, entree and dessert and every course was delicious
Service was at tentative yet not overbearing. We will return and highly recommend3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect AnniversaryMy wife and I came here for our first date four years ago, Lumiere's has since become our traditional anniversary place. We have never had a bad experience here, the food is always delicious and the staff is professional, courteous and knowledgeable. Our most recent dinner was no exception, our server Gera was phenomenal and we will definitely request him next time. He was personable without being intrusive and made excellent recommendations on food and wine. The duck and hanger steak were both amazing, the chef is clearly going for quality over quantity and it shows. We left full but not stuffed, it was a perfect romantic evening! Thank you so much3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLumiere is certainly a lightLumiere is certainly a light in Newton. Food is outstanding and service is extremely professional and helpful. Parking can be tricky but there is a metered lot on the street behind the restaurant.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFriday night Birthday DinnerMy family and I have been big fans of Lumiere for a long time. As a former chef, my primary interest in restaurant dining is the service, and Lumiere has always provided very gracious and professional service.
I was a little disappointed that my Open Table reservation request for a quiet table was met with two seats near the bar, and that other patrons think this is a place to let their kids wear their baseball caps, play with their cell phones, and put their sneakers up on the chairs.
My wife (the birthday celebrant) was charmed and pleased as always, especially by the attentiveness of the service and the special caring touches.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMTook my adult daughter toTook my adult daughter to dinner, then we went across the street to see a movie. The selection of entree's was small and nothing called to us, so we chose four appetizers to share and had a delicious dinner with plenty to eat. The cauliflower soup. beet salad, scallops and a pasta dish were all scrumptious. And the pannicotta for dessert was divine.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMVery reliable, but not blowVery reliable, but not blow your mind away food, excellent service, great neighborhood place, has enough elegance.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food (ranging fromFabulous food (ranging from outstanding to a salad that was good, but not fantastic), nice atmosphere, friendly waiters, good wine list. VERY pricey - a little more than I would have expected.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMHad not been to Lumiere inHad not been to Lumiere in several years and so glad we returned! Everything was fantastic.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMStill a great restaurantThe food was outstanding; adventurous specials (goat roulade, sea bass tartare), excellent and inventive regular menu. The service was wonderful; attentive and friendly. The only thing to mention that was not great was that the wine list did not really have good lower price selection options (30-40 dollars) (as so many restaurants do not these days) so that if you were dining out during the week and you didn't want to spend a fortune on a great wine, you have limited choices. The room is not too formal or fussy, and the noise level is very comfortable; you can really relax and enjoy the evening here (especially in the booths).3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect in every way. I havePerfect in every way. I have never had such tender breast of duck - amazing! Thanks for a lovely evening.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently excellent andConsistently excellent and we've been going for many years! Never disappoints us. Thank you!3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMfantasticIt definitely reached my expectations given other reviews -all the three courses were superb, the service helpful and unassuming. The dessert was the most stunning part of dinner. A light airy chocolate souffle with melting chocolat - definitely a good choice2/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWow. This place is spectacular.Wow. This place is spectacular. Our waiter was very charming and knew the menu like the back of his hand. He was also very into wine and was able to tell us in great detail how each wine we ordered was made, where it came from, and why it should be paired with each dish. The food was out of this world. Even the garnishes were amazing. This place also, in decor & charm, manages to balance liveliness and romance in a very special way. If I had to take issue with one thing, itw ould be that the portions are very small (the "scallops" appetizer had only one scallop, served on a bed of broccoli and cauliflower). On the bright side, that gives customers further incentive to branch out and try new dishes, of which there are many, all great!12/15/2012 12:00:00 AMAs good as it gets for wonderfulAs good as it gets for wonderful French fare with superb service and attention to detail.12/11/2012 12:00:00 AM
