LuLuFor the birds!!!LuLu features game birds frequently, done exquisitely on their rotisserie. It is rare to find them on menus, and more rare to have them prepared so well, flavorful and accompanied buy wonderful greens/veggies/etc. Call ahead to see what's on the menu, but we've never (in many years) had anything but a wonderful dinner at LuLu. . . and my husband lives to have their mussels/clams/oysters!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLulu's is lovely!I always forget just how long Lulu's has been around, and when I go, I wonder why I don't go more often. Great food, good service, and you can even generally find parking around there! We had a special group dinner planned, and it was just perfect; good sized portions for sharing, interesting cocktails, and attentive service. The only drawbacks was that it was very warm in the room, and we felt that putting out dessert plates before we ordered dessert was presumptuous (and a waste of clean plates, since we didn't get dessert!)6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFun place for a group!7 of us had dinner at LuLu. Very nice. Waitress was a little "scattered," but the food was delicious. Gnocci was average but the pork chop, roasted chicken, and lamb were fantastic! We sat by the wood fire oven and that was fun. Would definitely recommend it!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant, excellentGreat restaurant, excellent food and exceptional wait staff... Can't ask for more.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA Wood Fired OvenThe wood fired oven gives a nice subtle flavor to food cooked in it. I often have the wild mushroom pizza.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGood place to share foodA large, high ceiling makes the space look large. Service before a show at YB was good, but not great. The menu contains many dishes that are made to be shared. We tried three and were happy, but not delighted. More a solid food place; not as creative as could be. Service was good.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMwarm service and good foodThere are a a lot of choices in this neighborhood. Lulu is just right--not too hip nor too formal nor too expensive. Just a pleasantly remodelled old industrial space with servers who want you to enjoy your meal. Very accomodating for our nondairy requirements and our 8 pm curtain. I took another reviewer's advice and had the three appetizer combo; my husband had the special swordfish. We were both happy.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGood solid food. RotisserieGood solid food. Rotisserie and planked fish. Prepared very well. Easy, friendly and casual.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. fabulous dessertsWent to LuLu's with a party of 6. The table was a bit small for the recommended family style. However the service was excellent so we were able to manage the limited table size. Eating family style allowed us to try a variety of things. The crab tart and polenta starters were amazing. Our favorites on the main dishes were the roasted duck, flat iron steak and salmon. We found the roasted chicken to be so, so and we were split on the roasted pork. On the other hand we were unanamous on the desserts. The croissant bread pudding and apple tart fabulous. The place is a bit loud but our table was un the back so conversation was fine. We would go back.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDoesn't DissapointLuLu is a reliable favorite of mine that I enjoy introducing to friends and colleges over the years. Always with friendly and professional service, good menu selections, an excellent wine list dining at LuLu is a joy. Nice enough for a special dinner out and casual enough for a drop-in bite to eat, it's a very comfortable place to dine.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe evening started out badlyThe evening started out badly when the valet parking-staff wouldn't let my companion pull into the open parking-space in front of the restaurant to let me off.
Our waitress was very friendly & helpful, and the staff kept the water glasses filled.
But when the busboy cleared the entrees, he did a very perfunctory job of wiping off the the table.
Lulu's serves a choice of 3 appetizers for $18 - a great idea. We shared the beet salad, tart, & pate - all wonderful! Order the bread-it's fantastic.
The roasted duck entree was a full half duck. The down-side: it was not carved (presumably how they could serve such a large serving).
For dessert we shared a very large & decadent bread pudding. It's clear why it's their most popular dessert!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLuLu is the perfect spot forLuLu is the perfect spot for pre-theatre dinner if you are attending a performance at Yerba Buena Center. Their pizzas are always consistently good as is the delicious chicken from the wood ovens. In fact all of their meats from the ovens are excellent - this time we had roast suckling pig! Good cocktails and great service. Can't go wrong.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMsmall dish polenta the bestsmall dish polenta the best ever! apple crostata superb!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWas very quiet as was Sat.Was very quiet as was Sat. at lunch time and probably busier during the week and at night. It's close to the convention center so a good choice if you are there for a convention. However, our server handled the group and its various needs seamlessly. In addition, the fare was excellent as usual.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFun placeWe celebrated our daughter's 18th birthday. Waiter was great, didn't rush us at all which was nice. Food portions are big so we had plenty to eat. I loved the pizza and salads.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI worry for LuLu, becauseI worry for LuLu, because it's fairly empty when I go there. But the food is consistently good and the service is too.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThough the Grilled Pork LoinThough the Grilled Pork Loin was a bit salty and had to be replaced, the rest of our meal (ravioli, steak, chicken, roasted mussels, prawns) were excellent. The desserts and service were exceptional as well!!! Will certainly be back for another dining experience!!!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter being exiled to SacramentoAfter being exiled to Sacramento for the past 13 years, this place made me feel like I was back in San Francisco. Despite SOMA's heating up for a number of years, there was still a bit of a neighborhoody feel, though this was not anything like everyday eating on my personal budget. A real plus is that the food was ample -- special but not the sort of "California Cuisine" that sometimes goes too far in rewarding the visual senses rather than satisfying gustatory desires.
I learned of the place -- though the location seemed almost familiar -- from a retired food journalist who lives in SOMA and still doesn't mind my calling her for tips. That's good, because I may well do it again.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMStanding the test of timeWe hadn't dined here in quite a few years (we live out of town). We were pleased to discover that the food was every bit as good as we remembered. The wood smoked mussels were a treat!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed Lulu. BeautifulWe really enjoyed Lulu. Beautiful restaurant space, great friendly service, almost perfect food. In other reviews people talk about tables too close together, spotty service, overpriced. NOT TRUE. Well, maybe the prawns appetizer or small plate was a few bucks high. Entrees and drinks are comparable to every other restaurant. Drinks were good size at $9.00. Louisiana Prawns were a bit soft for our liking but were delicious and the aoili sauce was among the best we've had anywhere. My wife had sausage pizza - outstanding taste, wasn't as thin crusted or crispy as we expected though. Big - most of it home. Rosemary Chicken was perfect. I loved the Bread Pudding, my wife said it was a little too crunchy. We suggest you have a wine flight.2/1/2013 12:00:00 AMfamily-style provençalA delicious, perfectly-served experience, around the corner from the Moscone Center. Who knew? Get the antipasti; your three choices from several, carefully prepared.11/29/2012 12:00:00 AM
