A word from Lüke San Antonio
San Antonio is now home to acclaimed Chef John Besh’s restaurant, Lüke, on the city's famed Riverwalk, Besh's first restaurant outside of his home state of Louisiana. The casual chic bistro features a menu of authentic Old World cuisine, combining classic German and French cooking techniques served in a warm and inviting space of stylish vintage interior, situated in San Antonio's popular downtown district.

At the helm of the kitchen of Lüke is Executive Chef John Russ, born and raised in New Orleans. At Restaurant August, Chef Russ began to form the relationship with John Besh and he learned the importance of forming relationships with farmers and fisherman, which would later be reinforced by his time working on farms in Alabama, New Hampshire, New York and Maryland. Chef Russ returned to the Besh Restaurant Group as Chef de Cuisine on the invitation of Chef Besh.

To complement its cuisine, Lüke offers an extensive wine list and beer selection.

We wanted some New Orleans food and Luke was just what we desired. The restaurant is quite nice in appearance with a large patio. The service was outstanding with immediate attention always there. The food was also very good with the Seafood Gumbo rich and just spicy enough. Desert was a pecan bread pudding that delighted. We will be back.

Everything about the restaurant was really quite good. We had a large party of 8, with diverse tastes. Yet the restaurant was able to accommodate us very nicely. We sat outside, which I highly recommend (assuming that the weather is nice of course). One awkward thing about the outside was that they had to pull together 3 round tables to form a table large enough for 8 people, but that was only awkward not a deal breaker. The hiccup was the waiter. He just didn't have his act together. It would have ruined the evening, but after a a simple complaint to management. Others stepped in and the evening was saved. Thank you to management for being so responsive.

I was super excited to find out that this restaurant was opening...as I am a huge fan of the Chef-Owner. Unfortunately, everything I ate was a huge disappointment. The quail was beautifully fried but the melon salad with sherry gastrique was very unappetizing to say the least. The fruit was mushy and the gastrique had a burnt quality to it with absolutely no berry or citrus notes whatsoever. The server recommended the bouillabaisse to follow. What should have been a seafood lover's dream was drowned with nothing but salt...with no other flavors to be found. I could not even imagine going back for a second chance after such a huge let down...especially with this place just opening. Maybe I will feel differently somewhere down the road.

The food here was good as it is in New Orleans. However, the service was poor. The waiter was unfriendly. The drinks were very slow to arrive and when they did the waiter spilled a Manhattan on one of us. The food was also slow to arrive.

Overall delicious and will go back when in San Antonio. A little disappointing only because I expect a more creative menu from Chef Besh. Mussels and French 25 cocktail my favorites. The cocktail is outstanding especially is you like champagne. Bam Bam shrimp were okay, was expecting more flavor. Emeranthe and onion flatbread very flavorful, cheesy and crunchy. Mussels outstanding, crawfish gnocchi dish was okay, gnocchi were just a little overdone. Chocolate torte dessert very good.

Nice to find a New Orleanic restaurant in San Antonio. Nice presentation, excellent use of spice. Waitstaff a bit young and inexperienced, and "outdoors" is not at all attractive. Would return for the good tastes.

The restaurant is worth a visit. The food is well prepared, but the portions were small. Overall a bit pricey as well. The service was quite good. I personally felt the beer menu was a bit limited, but adequate. The space is a bit loud, but not unacceptable. overall a 3.5 out of 5.

Of the six restaurants we visited last weekend, five of which were excellent, this was our favorite. Wonderful food and service in a relaxed and quiet atmosphere. Those who demand huge portions might be disappointed, but it was perfect for us (although the Lukeburger is gigantic). They gave us a wonderful complimentary appetizer in honor of our son's graduation from Air Force basic training, which we all greatly appreciated.

Out on a monday night business dinner with some coworkers and Lüke was recomended by google and I was familiar with Besh so we booked it with open table. We were given an intimate table away from some larger, louder tables that afforded us an easier time to talk. We were greeted warmly and the service was kind and paced appropriately. Shrimp appetizers were "bam bam" as promised and the onion tart was delicious. My rib eye was a little thin which may have contributed to it being medium well, I ordered medium rare. It was saved by the sauce. More sauce than most french restaurants as it kindof drowned the steak, but it was so good that I didn't mind. I am back in san antonio in 2 weeks and will sneek in here again.

After wonderful John Besh's, August a few weeks ago, we were very excited to see he had another restaurant here. Not just in another city, it's on another planet. Upon entering the place and explaining we had a reservation for 6:30, I was told there was no reservation. Oh, sorry, it is for 6PM, which is when we arrived. I said the wrong time and the hostess wasn't going to seat us in a nearly empty restaurant until I corrected my mistake. Thanks, you made me feel so welcome. Then, three of the items in just the appetizers were unavailable. When we asked why, they told us that it was for a private party and not us. asked to speak to the manager - what a waste. All down hill from there. What a disappointment. Don't waste your time here.

Luke is a great spot for brunch. Eleven of my dear friends joined me for brunch on 9/28. The service was so amazing that we lingered there for two hours. Thanks David! As expected, the food was extraordinary. I highly recommend the quail and waffles, their clever take on chicken and waffles. For a real treat, try the frog leg appetizer.

I have been here twice. Each time I have had the tuna tartare and each time it's too salty and the tuna less than fresh. Service is always slow and always feels as if you are bothering them. But this time I was really disappointed. It was a special occasion. I confirmed this when I booked my reservation and at check in but no one every acknowledged my event.

This New Orleans native loved this place! We were in San Antonio to celebrate our anniversary. I was thrilled to see that John Besh had opened a place there. (Maybe he will open one in Austin soon.) It was hard to make a choice on the menu of great Creole dishes. I had the shrimp étouffée, and my husband had a crawfish ragout. Both were excellent, and we cleaned our plates. We also enjoyed the yummy bread pudding. The service was friendly and attentive, and the restaurant very comfortable.

I brought a couple of men with me who were not foodies. In fact, I suggested we try out one of the new great restaurants in town. There are ones popping up all over the place. They ordered the cheapest thing on the menu- the burgers. There should be some offering within the theme and purpose of the restaurant that is moderately priced. The burgers and fries were generous portions. However, I ordered the blue crab and avocado salad (so as not to be too far away in price) and it was the shape and size of a small can of tuna! The worst part was that they were taking me out. Please consider making your lunchtime menu more reasonably priced overall so that people can try out the restaurant without breaking the bank.

We went on a Thursday night. We were seated immediately by a pleasant hostess. The tables have a white tablecloth with white paper on top of that. The napkins are indeed the white dishtowels with the stripe down the middle as other reviewers have mentioned. Our server was Raquel and she was a delight. No delays or problems with service. She was attentive without bothering us at all. While everything I ordered was fantastic (rita, gumbo, etouffee), my husband was a little less thrilled (crab and avocado salad which we both really liked, ribs were less than tender, quail was very good). We split the bread pudding and it was quite delicious. I'm not sure when I've had better gumbo or bread pudding. I will go back for those!

This was a first time for me. Loved being made to feel special with attentiveness but not in an intrusive or overbearing way. Of course, the entrees were delish and had unique notes to them. The charcuterie platter was most unusual and interesting all round, but I recommend abandoning the pickled raspberries. Top notch service. I will definitely come again!

Did not eat their oysters, but I have been told they have the best in San Antonio. What I did have was quite good and the evening was lovely and low keyed. We had nicely done mussels and The crawfish ragout was very good with fresh peas and tomatoes, fresh gnocchi and of course the crawfish. My only concern was our service was a tad slow, having to ask a few times for things. However, the hostess was very good about walking around and checking on everyone so she more than made up for anything lacking in service.

A group of 8 dined here on a road trip from Austin. Having enjoyed the other John Besh restaurants in New Orleans, we were interested to see what Luke had to offer. And offer a memorable experience it did! We all enjoyed a wonderful meal in this casual bistro with consistently great food. The peach and fig salad was impressive; beautifully presented with an intriguing "dressing" that had been painted on the thick stone plate. The mussels were perfectly cooked with a crème based garlic wine sauce and the steak and frites could outdo ( especially at this price) any bistro in Paris. The topper to the evening was how gracious the staff was in allowing us to bring our own cellar wine to the dinner and pouring for us. A return trip is a must!

The food was wonderful, I have the shrimp and grits, a must have when visiting this restaurant. The service was amazing, our server Liz checked on us very often and she was very nice, energetic, and good at trying to persuade you to try their dessert. In which, I had the bread pudding, some of the best I've ever had. The restaurant was quiet, very nice environment and you even can book ur reservation online.

Although the food was good, not exceptional, the web description of German inspired French/New Orleans was not to be found. My party said the shrimp and grits were alright but not inspiring. The ribs were very good. I had the steak - it was fair, certainly not aged and full of flavor. My biggest complaint, noise. We could hardly converse, and after the meal was over we hurried out. I believe the manager noted it too, but she failed to come by during the meal. Serving bread in what I consider to be bar napkins was a little odd. Service was decent but the wait staff kept inverting the seating arrangement and gave us all the wrong orders. Afterwards we agreed it probably isn't a place we would come back to again.

We booked for Restaurant Week, the time when restaurants get to show off their philosophy, their talent, and their signature to people who may have never been or thought they could afford to go. I love Chef John Besh. Watch his show on PBS as often as possible. I was so looking forward to introducing Luke to my husband. I've been for lunch once over a year ago and enjoyed it. We walked in to a menu that did nothing to showcase Chef Besh's philosophy or Chef John Russ' creative talents. Dry short rib with a replacement that was no better. Kimchee for starter? Didn't understand that. Only saver was the bread pudding named after Chef Besh's son. What an overall disappointment.

Our experience started out with the elevator taking us beyond the main floor of the restaurant. One of the cooks very kindly escorted us back downstairs and then notified the hostess of our arrival. Our waiter was professional and helpful. When asked his opinion of the menu, he did not hesitate to tell us his personal favorite dishes. We ordered the frog legs based on his recommendation as an appetizer, and they were amazing! For the main course, my husband ordered the étouffée and I ordered the shrimp and grits. The flavor of both the dishes was superb! The only critique I have of the restaurant is of the napkins. It seemed odd to me to have such a pristine atmosphere and use what looked like dishrags for the napkins.

This was the second time we ate at Luke and this time we took my in-laws. They loved it! The food has delightful flavors and is generally very good. Portion sizes are reasonable to small which is great! I recommend going during happy hour or on Tuesdays before 8. They will split plates and serve 1/2 portions on each. So far there has not been a plate charge for this which i really appreciate! The food tends to be spicey and well seasoned. The food is all very well balanced and offers complex flavors. Enjoy! Note: the hard ceilings and floors make it abit noisy when it is busy.
