Lüke San AntonioExcellent experience until...I was extremely disappointed when I received an email stating I had not showed for my open table reservation. I found the email particularly rude since I had been there,5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday DinnerThe service was friendly and appropriate. The food was delicious! I hoped they would of had a better wine selection. I thought the table could of been bussed a bit better and quicker. I think they should have a chocolate dessert on the menu, but my cappuccino was one of the best I've ever had.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant and great foodFour in party, all having different items, and everyone enjoyed each of them tremendously. Our friends are somewhat picky, but they had nothing bad to say either. Service was impeccable also - attentive but not overly interruptive.
It was our wives' birthday outing, and they both loved it!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOur party of 4 arrived forOur party of 4 arrived for a before theatre dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by the reminders of happy hour pricing for our drinks and appetizers. The members of the wait staff were friendly, prompt and most helpful. Our dinners were great. Look forward to returning to try other items.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Steaks!Great food but pricey. Nice for a special occasion.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent as usual. Very consistienExcellent as usual. Very consistient and varied menu. cw5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodWe had a great dinner. The wait staff was very knowledgable regarding their menu. Our only complaint was the music was so loud you could not hear the waiters unless they bent over almost next to your ear and carrying on any kind of conversation was almost non existant.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMTwo Times is a charmWe like this restaurant so much the first time that we returned a couple of days later. Normally I do not do that on vacation. However it was that good.!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlmost stellarOur meals were excellent and we both enjoyed exploring the many new flavors presented. We had the chef's three-course dinner; each was very well executed. We ordered strategically: each ordered differently so we could taste six of the nine offerings. Thanks for a pleasant evening.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful dinner before theaterWhat a great time our group had before the theater. Our group of six thoroughly enjoyed all the food from drinks, to appetizers, to entrees, to dessert. Our group particularly enjoyed the quail and the burgers. The service was excellent and everyone was very helpful. Chef John Besh was very personable and spent some time with our group. This is our new favorite before the theater.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a great first timeIt was a great first time for me and my party at Luke! The food was excellent and plentiful. Our waiter was very helpful with his knowledge of the menu and that helped us order food that we loved. We would definitely go again and recommend it as a river food restaurant to try.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe celebrated a coworkersWe celebrated a coworkers military retirement here tonight. Everything was top-notch! The food was delicious, the service and the attention to detail were amazing and the extra plus - the valet parking discount. The was my first trip here and I will definitely be back ASAP.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved LukeEclectic choices, all excellent. Can't recommend the Crispy Alsatian Onion Tart enough. Amazing flavors. We arrived at 5:30 and were treated to 1/2 price wine and 50 cent empanades. The special Texas red fish was perfect. Service was also outstanding. After dinner the coffee was also notable. Reasonably priced for an upscale restaurant.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPhenomenal.. Sort of?Being born and raised in Louisiana and moving to Texas two years ago, I could careless about how famous Chef John Besh is... The Shrimp Etouffee was horrible. Shrimp Etouffee is severed over rice, not cheap, under cooked pasta. Although the shrimp were fresh and tasty, overall the dish was executed very poorly.
Lucky for me, the two of us each ordered a main course and asked for both to be split. The burger was phenomenal. There is no other word or words to describe it.
Now of course I hardly ever go to a restaurant like this without making sure it has both a full bar along with published specialty drinks. These handcrafted drinks are top notch.
I would absolutely recommend this place, no question.
New Orleans? Cajun? Creole? No Sir5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAuya was an outstanding server!Auya was an outstanding server! Will be back for sure!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMDont read the menuWe had a lovely dinner outside with a view of the Riverwalk. The only disappointment was that the menu featured on OpenTable bore no resemblance at all to the menu at the restaurant.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMService was imeciable. OurService was imeciable. Our waiter Wesley H was knowledgeable, attentive, and personable . This was our 3rd visit . I ordered the Luke's burger , which delicious and flavorful . My wife ordered the Drum amandine . The fish was delicious and memorable However the potato patty it was on was bland , without proper seasoning . Wine list was attractive . my wife had the Cinco cooler which she loved We will go back4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful restaurant. FoodWonderful restaurant. Food was delicious. Some of the best seafood I've ever had.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe scallop-lamb dish wasThe scallop-lamb dish was fabulous. The unusal pairing of lamb with a scallop was delightful! Best oysters...love the variety.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Happy Hour in SAIncredible....can't say enough about the charbroiled oysters. If you haven't tried them, you must!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSadly...I've had lunch here many times. This was the first time I had dinner. My companion and I both ordered steak. The food was exquisite, as usual. However, when we asked for the dessert menu, our server brought two different menus. One included creme brulee and one some sort of pot de chocolate. We asked which was correct; he said the one with creme brulee. So we both ordered it. He returned to say their pastry chef was absent and they were out of everything except bread pudding and ice cream. I had bread pudding; I wish I'd ordered ice cream. The bread pudding was almost the consistency of raw yeast roll dough. Nonetheless, I love Luke and will continue going there FOR LUNCH!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMa consistently good restaurant.a consistently good restaurant. Very conveniently located near the Symphony. Good oysters.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMUpscale Casual - Tasty & PersonableWe ate at Luke last Friday night. The place was not packed, but we didn't arrive until 8:30pm. It's got the feel of a New Orleans French brasserie. We had for starters: Crispy Shrimp Bam Bam - so tasty! For dinner we had the rib-eye, which was cooked perfectly and melt-in-your-mouth, as well as the Drum Almandine - also very tasty. The service was personable and very good. I asked the waiter if the bartender could make a Ramos Gin Fizz. He came back with an assuredly YES and the anticipation began. This true NOLA drink is difficult to make and thus hard to find. But the bartender came through and stopped by our table to chat about the recent cocktail conference in SA where they made RGF for attendees. Wonderful evening.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGood meal. We dined at 6:00pm,Good meal. We dined at 6:00pm, there was still an happy hour crowd. The noise level was quite high and made it difficult to converse. Service was excellent.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMgood food and wine, good locationgood food and wine, good location near the Majestic Theater and the Riverwalk.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMI was very impressed and alsoI was very impressed and also it is close to the Majestic. The food was some of the best downtown.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were seated next to a doorWe were seated next to a door on a very cold day - lots of drafts & quite cold. Staff remarked on how cold it was, but made no attempts to change seating. Otherwise, very nice.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary DinnerOur dinner at LUKE was magical! They took very good care or us! I would say almost every employee in the restaurant stopped by our table to say Happy Anniversary. The manager gave us two complimentary appetizers, which were delicious!! Our server, offered suggestions of mixed drinks and a different type of beer than we had tasted. All choices were perfect! Food is great, atmosphere is wonderful and music set the tone of the evening!! When I commented on our Open Table reservation that it was our anniversaey, I honestly didn't think anyone would notice, care or acknowledge it! Thank you, LUKE, for treating us like Royalty for our anniversary!! It's nice to be pampered every now and then! :)4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWould definitely come back! Our large party was there for brunch. We've dined at the Lukes in New Orleans and it was excellent. The food here was also excellent. Flavorful, creative dishes and great service. We would definitely go back again!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing! WineThe food was amazing! Wine and beer options were great. The service was a little slow and lackluster but the overall dining experience was great. I would definitely go back. I went in a Saturday at 4:30 so it was not a busy time.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. Inside was a bit loud for dinner so we asked to move outside. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The outside patio was excellent, had a great view and made for a wonderful evening for the six of us!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDowntown TuesdayBest happy hour in town. Raw bar a plus.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been to Luke severalWe've been to Luke several times, usually in conjunction with attendance at the Symphony which is just down the street. They have valet parking the exit from which avoids the rush of the crowd. John Besh's Louisiana recipes and the accent on good seafood fits our palate. Great oysters.I3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMTook our daughter their forTook our daughter their for a special occasion while in from out of town. We have been there a few times before and everything was spectacular. This night we had the worst waiter. He did not bring my iced tea until our appetizers came, nor did he take our our dinner order until appetizers came and I asked to give him our order. We asked for bread twice before we were given any. He kept going outside talking with other waiters and did not keep our drinks refilled or check on our table much. He waited to put in our dinner order after we gave it and came back about 5 minutes later and said he had not put it in yet he thought they were out of the tenderloin, but would check before he put in the order then he went back out to the patio.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA San Antonio GemChef Besh is a favorite TV personality of mine and when I heard that he opened a restaurant in San Antonio, I just had to try it. Now, I've gone to restaurants owned by famous Chefs before and I've been sorely disappointed (I won't name names). But, Luke is not one of them.
Luke has everything you could possibly ask for. It has affable servers, great ambiance, fantastic wine, and wonderful, flavorful, memorable food. The Bam Bam Shrimp and Onion Tart are must haves as appetizers and the main dish I chose, Steak Frites, was one of the best dishes I've had anywhere in the past year or so. Just thinking about the garlic butter and ribeye again makes my mouth water.
Chef Besh didn't let us down in San Antonio and I'll be back again!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMDuring our recent first visitDuring our recent first visit to San Antonio, my husband and I dined at Luke 2 times.
On both occasions the food was excellent (the burger is a must and the steak was outstanding!) and the service was outstanding!
We spend a lot of time in the New Orleans area and always intended to go to one of Chef Besh's restaurants, but never did.
We certainly will on our next trip to the Crescent City!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMJohn Besh hasn't missed aJohn Besh hasn't missed a beat with Luke in San Antonio. We felt like we were back in New Orleans at August. I'd like to sing out to all the locals " best resaurant in San Antonio". True to tradition the Gulf Coast grilled flounder was superb and the pecan drum was out of this world. The seafood bisque was tops along with the Blue Crab and Avocado salad. Now the only question is New Orleans or San Anonio! Thanks John Besh H-town is patiently waiting. Thank you3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSeafood Prepared Correctly.Dinner was delicious. Fish cooked perfectly, and seasoned to perfection. I had the shrimp etoufee, and cleaned my plate, which is rare. The roasted beet and goat ricotta cheese salad is magnificent! Very attentive service.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and serviceWe got delayed arriving and had theater tix, so we were pressed for time. Our waiter and the manager took pains to ensure we knew how our order was coming along. My burger was very very tasty but utterly huge--two people could have filled up on it. Hubby really liked that his oysters were not over-dressed, so their flavor came thru. It's a big place with hard,sound-reflecting surfaces, too noisy for our taste but not so loud that we were able to hear each other. We will go back for the service and the location close to downtown theaters.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMNew Years' Late Lunch was,New Years' Late Lunch was, as always, fabulous. Shrimp Remoulade Salad rocks! Do not leave without trying the baked oysters....1/1/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfectionOur delicious food was enhanced only by the fact that we arrived just before happy hour ended and had a wonderful cocktail to complement our meal. We split a salad--which Luke split for us in the kitchen, placing none of the beets on my friend's "beet free plate" which meant, yum, more beets for me. My companion had the shrimp and grits appetizer--perfectly cooked shrimp and extremely lovely jalapeno grits. Too die for. My appetizer was the shrimp and artichoke appetizer, with plenty of chili to add just the right zing. Both appetizers were large enough for us to feel sated without having an entree. One of our favorite spots in San Antonio.12/7/2012 12:00:00 AMGreat food and serviceLuke's offers great food and a decent wine selection, all at a comparatively moderate price for fine dining. The menu is a French and German influenced continental cuisine. Located along the Riverwalk in San Antonio, it's a great place to kick of a fun evening downtown.11/15/2012 12:00:00 AM
