A word from Lüke San Antonio
San Antonio is now home to acclaimed Chef John Besh’s restaurant, Lüke, on the city's famed Riverwalk, Besh's first restaurant outside of his home state of Louisiana. The casual chic bistro features a menu of authentic Old World cuisine, combining classic German and French cooking techniques served in a warm and inviting space of stylish vintage interior, situated in San Antonio's popular downtown district.

At the helm of the kitchen of Lüke is Executive Chef John Russ, born and raised in New Orleans. At Restaurant August, Chef Russ began to form the relationship with John Besh and he learned the importance of forming relationships with farmers and fisherman, which would later be reinforced by his time working on farms in Alabama, New Hampshire, New York and Maryland. Chef Russ returned to the Besh Restaurant Group as Chef de Cuisine on the invitation of Chef Besh.

To complement its cuisine, Lüke offers an extensive wine list and beer selection.

  • "I let them know it was our 10th Anniversary and they took such good care of us!"

  • "It is a real treat to have a John Besh restaurant in San Antonio. Recommended wine was perfect with our meal. We are planning to go back soon."

  • "Luke's gumbo is superb! My husband is from Louisiana and he "licked" the bowl clean. The service is also worth mentioning. The staff is attentive without being overbearing."

  • "Steak cooked to perfection, crawfish ragout delicious. We certainly enjoyed our dinner. Jay our server did a terrific job - helpful, friendly, anticipated our needs."

  • "Luke is happening on Tuesday! The food was excellent and the happy hour pricing was great! I took my wife for a date night and we had a good time enjoying many tasty courses. Try the meat pies and zucchini sliders! The charbroiled oysters were good as well. Everything we ordered had a diverse flavor and was enjoyable. The hard floors, walls, and ceilings do make it noisy but it seemed to quiet down as the sun set."

  • "Our son lives in San Antonio and loves Luke's Happy Hour. We tried it once and it became a "must" every time we visit. This was our first dinner there and we didn't really find it exceptional. Their Gumbo is second to none! The main "problem" was the lack of non-seafood items and we had one guest who does not eat seafood. The one steak choice is not to be recommended. When the manager found that we were not totally pleased he went overboard in making it up to us. We will definitely be returning. Our server, Rob, was outstanding. We met him during a Happy Hour visit and were lucky enough to have him again at dinner."

  • "Service and food has not been better here. Javier was the server, got to meet the chef, and made it to the majestic in time for our show. Thank you John Besh for bringing this gem to SA."

  • "Outstanding always a good experience. Go as often as possible. Excellent food and drinks."

  • "food well prepared and tasty; friendly service but (acceptably) slow; restaurant very noisy -- not conducive for casual dinner conversation"
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "In my trips to Luke, I have never been disappointed! The staff and management have always been top notch. Whether it is for happy hour and their fantastic specials, or dinner before catching a show at The Majestic Theater, Luke is my spot. They always make it a point to ask if I am going to a show to ensure that my meal comes out in a timely matter that won't make me late for the curtain. They also always have a great selection of Texas beer on draft! I love Luke San Antonio and will return again! Make sure you leave room for dessert, and try Brendan's Bread pudding!"

  • "We had an excellent overall experience with Very good food, good service, nice setting (although a bit loud for casual conversation) and reasonable prices. Will definitely try again and recommend to friends. Would help a lot if they offered free or subsidized parking for diners."

  • "The food was definitely tasty. The oysters very fresh, and the drum special well prepared. However, the drinks came out staggered too much apart. One had to ask for iced tea as it never came, and then had to ask for bread and butter before entrees would have been finished. Only our birthday person was asked if she wanted desert, and no inquiry by our server as to whether we wanted coffee or after dinner drinks. All in all the service was off just enough at every stage to be noticed, which is definitely not what you want. The noise level was also fairly high, but I suspect the outdoor patio would have been okay on that note."

  • "I asked for a romantic table, it was given away and we sat by the door, which kept being left open. Many bugs and noise. Only our wonderful waitress seemed to care."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "The food was wonderful! Will go back to continue trying new things. A wide variety of what is served is the greatest part about the menu and its in a great location!"

  • "This was my third visit to Luke and it was a disappointment. The service was slow and a little disorganized to start. After waiting about 15 minutes to place a drink order, our waiter returned to tell us they were out of sparkling water. The food was good, but not up to the standard that I had experienced in the past and definitely not what you'd expect from a John Besh establishment. Our waiter eventually came around and was much more attentive after we placed out initial orders."

  • "Nice location and the food was reasonably priced. Happy hour until 8pm instead of the usual 6 or 7 was also great. Food and wine specials during happy hour!"

  • "The best restaurant in a city full of great restaurants!"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Mr. Besh would had been disappointed as well. It being Spurs weekend, I can understand the excitement akin to a sports bar rather than a fine dining establishment. There was food on the floor next to our table. A banana peel slipping accident waiting to happen. Our server was forewarned and the mess was promptly removed. I assume from a previous diner. Waited too long for my cocktail. My white wine was served in a dirty wine glass(looked like red wine). The chef saturated my seafood entre with too much salt. It's seafood! Suffice it to say, that will be my last dining experience at Luke's."

  • "The food was delicious but the service was excellent. Our waiter was so attentive and helpful. Will definitely go back!"

  • "Everything we ordered was amazingly tactful.mew all shared appetizers between four adults and it was plentifully satisfying."

  • "I had the steak and my guests both ordered the fish. Great service and it 's a staple in our before symphony dinner."

  • "It's like having a little taste of NOLA in SA. I would've preferred sitting on the balcony but it seemed tame for a Friday night. Although when we were leaving, there were a lot of people at the bar."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Excellent service, nice surroundings, food wonderful but way too nosiy to sit inside."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Oysters, Oysters, Oysters. Beer and sliders too! That is all you need to know."
    Dined on 6/11/2014
  • "I keep going back to this restaurant for the food. It is outstanding. What keeps me saying I won't go back is the lack of good service. Our waiter was friendly and insisted on cocktails. We agreed. It took over 22 minutes for them to arrive at our table after ordering. We were not offered break nor water during that wait. We insisted on ordering once he returned with the drinks. The oysters arrived promptly. Still no bread. Our entrees arrived about 10 minutes after our oysters were cleared from the table. I ordered a glass of wine and my guests order another cocktail. Again, we were finished with our meals when the drinks arrived back. We had to ask for our serves multiple times. What is it with this place?"

  • "Food was great, but service was terrible. Out server did not take the time to explain item menus unless asked. And at the end of the night charged my credit card to another table. The manager made up for it and comp'd our deserts"

  • "Loved the food and went back in 1 day. Two trips in one day! From the warm bread, smooth butter to the oysters to the crabmeat au gratin to the praline ice cream....wow! We absolutely enjoyed ourselves! Went to San Antonio for the playoffs but sure would go back just for Luke!"
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "Really impressed. Did not think it would hold up to the New Orleans luke....but wow!! Went twice in a day! My children loved it too! Great oysters!"
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "We have been to Luke before and have loved it since then. The wait staff is attentive and courteous. They are knowledgeable about menu items and are willing to give recommendations for your palate. Great ambiance, romantic setting on the river walk great for couples or group evening. Food isn't overbearing with seasoning instead the flavors are perfectly placed."

  • "Being from Louisiana and having been to John Besh's restaurants in New Orleans, we had high expectations for our dinner. First, it was 8:00 on a Friday night and we felt like we were at an 'early bird special'. Older crowd and pretty empty. The wine list is short but down good selections. The atmosphere was nice. The waiter was a little pushy... Asking us if we wanted to order a second bottle of wine before the first was even finished. The food was the big disappointment... We got the grilled oysters and there was so much breeding packed on top you couldn't taste anything else. Our main courses were fresh and good pairings but so over salted that we couldn't even finish. Dessert was delicious and coffee high quality. Besh can do better."

  • "While the food was great, the noise level was too. We could hear everyone from across the room and thus had to elevate our speech just to be heard."
    Dined on 6/4/2014
  • "It had been a few years since I had eaten at Luke, but it has become quite popular! The noise level was very high which made it difficult to converse with friends. Service was a little slow but once we ordered, the food came out quickly. "

  • "Very nice restaurant saloon and bar, tall ceilings and nice New Orleans atmosphere. The restaurant is at Houston street inside the Embassy Suites Hotel. Cajun style food. They have a Oysters happy hour around 3PM. One of the best Bar in the City."
    Dined on 6/1/2014
  • "Our waitress disappeared. My husband was going to order dessert but by the time we were able to find her again at least 20 minutes had passed so we asked for the check and left. I have eaten at Luke many times and this was just an off night. The etouffee was bad but the rest of the food was good. "

  • "Having been to Luke of New Orleans, this was a wonderful experience. "
    Dined on 5/28/2014
  • "My fiance and I were lucky enough to get the last table outside on the patio, and it was a beautiful night to eat outside. The service was a little slow, but we didn't mind because we wanted to linger at dinner anyway. The ceviche appetizer is out of this world, so good! We were then a little let down when our entrees came; the crawfish gnocchi dish had an excellent flavor but was barely lukewarm, and the mussels weren't anything to write home about either. Overall, we would recommend Luke."

  • "We had dinner at Luke prior to a show at the Majestic. We had oysters on the 1/2 shell to start. The were fresh a delicious and only $.50 ea during happy hour. We then had a cup of the best seafood gumbo I have ever had. We were eating light, so we concluded with the crab & avocado salad. It too was fantastic. "
