Diner Reviews
  • "We entertained a party of 7 a week ago Saturday night. When we first arrived the restaurant was a bit noisy but as patrons left to attend events at MSG, the sound level became more manageable. The food selections were great, the service was spot on, and the prices were fair. I highly recommend."

  • "Happened upon this place based upon reviews from Open Table and Yelp. Seemed like a logical and convenient choice. We arrived and were seated immediately. The waiter was attentive and allowed us time to catch talk at the table. The waiter was knowledgeable of the beer and wine menu. We ordered the salume plate and the meatballs and both met our expectations. Our main courses were very good and the wine we paired with dinner went well. Overall a very positive experience and consider coming back and trying other items on the menu."

  • "always wonderful to come to this restaurant They are very accommodating thank you Donna"

  • "Lunch with a soft spoken southern gentleman, which was great except for the volume which made for difficult conversation. The service was very attentive and the dishes were very well done. Will certainly return but will look for more discrete table."

  • "Across the street from Madison Square Gardens, great food for a restaurant which could get away with less because of the location."

  • "Food is very tasty but I find the space too noisy, especially during happy hour."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "Food is good but you have to yell over the noise to talk and the service is very rushed. Still, it's a good option if you need to be near Penn and don't want to settle for fast food."

  • "Everything went smoothly and then some. Great wait staff...great food....the noise level a bit much for me. I would definitely come back when in the Penn Plaza area."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "It is close to Madison Square Garden so it is good if you are attending a concert or game but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here. Portions were tiny and the food was so-so. Dessert was amazing though...five scoops of gelato which I must admit was terrific and the highlight of the meal."

  • "Lugo is convenient to Madison Square Garden/Penn Station and isn't a chain - which is nice. The food isn't bad, some it is quite good. The host/hostess are always pleasant and welcoming - again, nice. That being said, the wait staff makes it clear that you need to place a major lunch order and eat it quickly. This is not somewhere to linger or to have a light snack - unless you like getting the evil eye."

  • "The two hostesses went above and beyond to accommodate. Food was perfect."

  • "Actually had dinner here three nights in a row since we were at the Garden for Big East Tournament. Obviously very convenient and can provide for a very quick dinner service if needed. Menu has a decent selection. From salads to pizza, as well as pasta dishes and daily specials. Attracts a big bar crowd before and after the games, so can be quite loud. Overall a decent go to place if you want a convenient dinner /meeting spot for a Garden event."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner - food was excellent and the atmosphere was great!!!!!"

  • "Only had the specials which ranged from $24 to $38 - but included a lobster dish which came with 4 small lobster tails which was delicious. The service was great, but I don't know if this is an ideal first date restaurant as the noise level is pretty high - definitely a great place for some good food before catching a show or game at MSG though!"

  • "Really great experience for pre-game or MSG theater! would also go back just because food was excellent."

  • "Le service n'est pas le plus attentionné mais la nourriture est de qualité. En face du Madison Square Garden sur la 33ieme rue."

  • "Fabulous food and convenient location but we had to shout to hear each other. WAY too noisy."

  • "Had tickets for a show at MSG and wanted somewhere close by for dinner. Great overall menus, everyone was able to find something. They were great about food allergies and making some required changes bread was fabulous as was the fried zucchini with aioli sauce, I am still dreaming about their spinach! . Would recommend, but the gnocchi was a bit bland."

  • "The only complaint is when we arrived there was absolutely no one in the restaurant & yet were offered the worst table in the place: directly in front of the restrooms. I could understand if the restaurant was filled but can someone explain why you get offered the worst table even though you should have your pick of any table? Other than that, the food and service were great. However, that does put a damper on your overall experience. As the manager walked around to ask how everything was I explained my dilemma of being an Open Table patron and still being offered the worst table, but I did let him know that we were definitely pleased with the food and service. If in the neighborhood again, I would definitely return."

  • "While attending a game at MSG, there are few dining choices. Lugo Caffe totally fits the bill. Great food with outstanding service. So if you want to have a REAL meal before the game, Lugo Caffe is the place to go."

  • "Lugo Caffe is the go-to spot if you're heading over to MSG or are in the neighborhood for lunch. The service is excellent all around; my guest and I were seated quickly during a busy lunch hour and the server was polite and knowledgeable of the menu. My sister had the veal picatta and I had the branzino, both were excellent. The wine menu was also very extensive. The dining room is very spacious and they are able to cater to large parties, so I would definitely recommend checking out the restaurant for special occasions."

  • "Lugo is a gem in an area that I try to avoid. If you're going to an event at MSG, Lugo's is the place to be. I always have the lobster fra diablo (assuming it's available) Hopefully they will soon make it permanent on the menu."

  • "Convenient location & roomy for small groups. Pricey unless on business account. Food temperature is always less than desired even with reminders."

  • ""We loved the attention we received from the moment we entered, from the smiling hostess to the wait staff. I definitely would return to try more of the menu. The caprizie with the fresh mutz was excellent. The fried artichoke was tasty but a little dry & chewy. My wife had the branzino which was cooked to perfection, tasty & plentiful. One of the best she's ever had. Me being a pasta lover had the pesto pasta with schrimp, was very good. We had a bottle of red wine which was served a little to warm. Red wine should be served around 55-60 degrees. All considered this could be one of my go to restaurants when in NY."

  • "For a quick Italian lunch at Penn Plaza - this is a great place to go. I had a lunch reservation and was greeted and seated immediately. The service was fast and friendly. Had a wonderfully prepared striped bass for lunch, followed by a double espresso. Only downside is that it was a bit too loud in the space - a business lunch may be a bit tricky."

  • "Server did a very nice job. Food was okay...Appetizers were way better then meal. Took my two sons there to celebrate their birthdays and the place was crazy noisy and loud. We couldn't have a conversation. I would go back to have drinks!"

  • "I really dig this delightful Italian restaurant ! Especially before a NY Rangers game at MSG where they offers fine pastas and other super-fresh food in large portions (Aka: Meatballs!) paired with a well-chosen wine list , prompt service & value pricing ... overall pleasant experience."

  • "Aside from some "Irish" restaurants, & the usual franchise spots, there aren't many places around The Garden to grab a meal let alone a nice one. This place ended up begin perfect. Had the highest ratings of anyplace nearby that had a 100+ reviews. It was very loud, & the crowd added a welcome level of energy to the place. I was with a group of four so we weren't trying to have a "romantic" night out so the high noise level wasn't an issue. Though we had a reservation we did have to wait 15 mins or so, but it was busy & the manager was attentive, keeping us updated as to our wait. Food was great, service good. def a recommend & will be back! If you dont like noise b wary, but you can't beat the location if you're doing The Garden after."

  • "I often go to Cafe Lugo and always recommend it to people I know and business associates. Love the location and the menu. Their meatballs pomodoro is my favorite!"

  • "This was my second time dining at Lugo Caffe. The food was very good but the pork shank was a little rough. Considering I've heard great things about the pork shank, I expected it to be much more tender. Overall I still loved the food, especially the meatballs!"

  • "I love Lugo Caffé; the food is great, but the service is so hit or miss. I've been there on several occasions and love it. I reiterate, the food is good - I love their scallops and ravioli dishes, their desserts are delicious and their drink menu offers a wonderful selection, but the service is very hit or miss. The hostess and manager were great, but the servers this visit seemed so annoyed. At this point I think my standards are just too high since I was once a server. It's a busy hot spot so maybe they were just not having a good day, but I will continue to highly recommend it and visit myself. No one can keep me away from their tiramisu or cheesecake!"

  • "I can't say enough about the service. They were the perfect balance of attentiveness without being overbearing. They are mind readers. I can't remember ever having better service."

  • "A favorite pre-event dining spot if you have plans at Madison Square Garden. Acoustics make it VERY difficult to gave a conversation without shouting, however. Food and service seem reliable good."
