A word from Lucques
Since opening in 1998 Lucques has garnered extraordinary accolades and is now recognized as one of the country’s best restaurants. It's California cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences is served in the warm and intimate setting of the rustic carriage house of the original Harold Lloyd estate.

One of the reasons for the all the acclaim is the Sunday Supper, the night that best exemplifies the original mission of owners Chef Suzanne Goin and Sommelier Caroline Styne, by offering seasonal prix fix menus that re-create the atmosphere of a relaxed family dinner.

Diner Reviews
  • "We had a most wonderful meal at Lucques which was typical of its usual quality. For the first time, the service was really poor. The waiter was rude and the timing between courses was way beyond what we had come to expect at this restaurant. I hope this was just an off-night."

  • "Great food, but you sit right on top of the people next to you so having a private conversation is impossible. Good if you just want good food, but not if you want conversation (unless it is with the people seated 10 inches from you)"

  • "I enjoyed the food greatly. As Other people have said, they have good cocktails. Only complaint is that the tables are pretty close together"

  • "The good news: Lucques's food is still tops. Sunday supper was delicious -- starting with extremely fresh gazpacho, to perfectly cooked fish, and ending with fruit and brioche pudding. Fantastic. Memorable. The bad news: Service was mediocre to non-existent once we were seated (hostess was great). First, we never felt welcomed. It took forever to order drinks and the order came out wrong. Then forever to order our entrees, which is remarkable since it's a prix fixe menu where the only choice is which of 2 entrees to have. Then the gazpacho came without spoons. For most of the rest of the meal, no server was to be seen. Then, at the end, no one ever offered coffee or an after-dinner drink. All in all mediocre service."

  • "Christian is always so wonderful! As is Walter - who always is a gentleman and so gracious. The evening was wonderful. Highly recommend Sunday Supper to anyone - a true treat! Thanks Lucques!! Victor"

  • "Limited lunch menu. You can't really experience this restaurant at lunch I feel."

  • "Food done to perfection. Best beef short rib I have ever eaten. Service was attentive but not overly so as to be annoying. Waitstaff made solid recommendations when asked. Pre-dinner cocktails (kumquat with arugula simple syrup and gin) were superb. I will be back!"

  • "Lucques was one of the best dining experiences we have had in quite some time. We both ordered fish, ling cod and white sea bass. They were cooked to perfection and the accompanying vegetables were a compliment to the fish. Salad dressing was outstanding and it was obvious that this was made to compliment our salads. Our dessert also was outstanding. I recommend Lucques for a special occasion or just a wonderful evening meal. We will return."

  • "This is an amazing restaurant. I usually don't go by reviews but had no choice this time as we attended a convention. We were so lucky. Everything was perfect. Amazing food, service . An over all great dining experience"

  • "Wonderful, casual, highest-quality cooking with professional, friendly service. Booked an early table on purpose and it was nearly empty, and we were made to feel like we were part of the prime-time crowd (in a good way). Other early guests (a very young couple on a date, a small family with infant, senior couple on anniversary night, reunion of college friends, a large party out in the back open-ceilinged room) were likewise welcomed and treated very cordially as special guests. The suckling pig was awesome - perfectly pulled, packed, crisped, with the correct balance of accompaniments in texture, taste, volume; desserts also awesome. This was our second time here from out of town and we were very happy that it's still a top-notch place."

  • "NOBODY came to our table so we just waited for 10 minutes. I grabbed one waitress and asked whether we can order our food. The waitress told me she is not the server for our table but she just took our order. The waitress who was not entitled to our table friendly served, cleaned and checked upon us with the food throughout the night. However, there was one WAITER who asked us whether our food is good 3 times. I could easily assume that he was the ONE for our table. He did not do anything for our table except asking us questions 3 times. Even for our desserts, the waitress got our order and served them for us. YET, the WAITER gave us the check and took the check in the end, which was annoying and not understandable."

  • "We had an excellent dinner to celebrate my son's graduation from UCLA. He did the research when we asked him to pick the restaurant and we were not disappointed. The setting was a beautiful indoor/outdoor seating area and the server was excellent and they even decorated his dessert plate. The food was amazing. Seasoning on everything was perfect. Would highly recommend."

  • "Excellent main course, dessert too sweet, tables too close, nice wines by the glass, too dark for my taste."

  • "It has been a year or so since I visited and I was surprised how much less everything was. The food was less delicious and less well prepared, the wait staff was VERY MUCH less able. Wow. It seems as if the best of the staff were shifted to AOC. My daughter and I both agree that Tavern is better than Lucques now. Just an absolute surprise. Still good food but now where near what it was. I do not plan to return anytime soon."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a nice dinner at Lucques to celebrate our anniversary. The ambiance was lovely and the noise level was moderate which made for nice conversation. While my spare ribs were fantastic my wife's lingcod was rather bland and disappointing. That being said we would definitely go back and try it again."

  • "I had eaten here once many years ago and was pleasantly surprised at the ongoing quality of the food, service, wine list and ambiance. I'll definitely go back."

  • "I guess I am too much of a heath addict these days. The dinner was beautifully presented. The service was good. The table most comfortable. Everything was starting out good. The fish was fried and a bit greasy, salty, and too much sauce. The couscous was shrieking w/garlic. So I guess I wouldn't want to pay that price and leave a lot of leftovers."

  • "We were celebrating our anniversary and were disappointed with the picnic menu. This was totally my fault for not reading the menu description in the email reservation. Granted, it was the best, most delicious fried chicken and the desert was amazing, but overall the menu was heavy. The service was excellent as always, and I love the patio for a summer evening. Again, I take full responsibility for my mistake in not reading the menu before our visit. We have had the most memorable meals at Lucques and I'm sure there will be many more."

  • "Had been a favorite, but menu items were suprisingly over-prepared - too many supporting ingredients overshadowed primary, heavy for spring. Waited an exceptionally long time for service and a kind of snobby waiter. The fresh asparagus salad was pleasant and well balanced with speck, but avoid the scallops and whitefish. Cannot go wrong with the sourdough, butter and sea salt round. "

  • "Delicious first courses - soft shell crab was yummy, asparagus salad great, raw limb kibbe super. Main courses were great too… the short ribs, the rush on beans,,, too much food!"

  • "The cocktails were fantastic, Kentucky Cola and special of the night Mezcal were the high point of our meal. The service was very slow, to the point we passed on dessert. The food was good, not as flavorful as our experience at Tavern, but good. The hanger steak wasn't the best cut or maybe poor quality, it was a little tough. I'm not sure if this was an off night or not, but it just didn't live up to what we expected based on all the good reviews. "

  • "After only having enjoyed Lucques once before, for their annual Rib Fest, my wife and I decided a dinner was in order. I'm so glad we did! The cocktails were unique and delicious. Every aspect of the meal was executed beautifully, from the well-balanced onion soup to the fresh ricotta dumplings, and finally the panna cotta, which we devoured even though we swore we couldn't possibly. Suzanne Goin has a gem of a restaurant here, and it runs as effortlessly as you could ever hope. The atmosphere is intimate and idyllic. We will be back soon! "

  • "It's a pleasure to go to this restaurant on a Sunday evening. The menu is set, except for 2 choices, for entree. Burrata and veggies was lovely, cod was well prepared and dessert tart was delicious. Service was great and we were not rushed. The patio is the place to sit since it is quiet and lovely."

  • "The initial disappointment to only have a fixed menu on Sunday's turned out to be unnecessary: The 3 course menu was well chosen, very tasty, a visual and taste butt pleasure. A wonderful experience."

  • "I took my wife out for her first Mothers' day. We took our 3 month old who was fast asleep. The staff at Lucques was very accommodating and gave us a seat for our baby's carseat. The meal was quite tasty and came out very quickly. I would recommend Sunday Supper to anybody."

  • "The food at Lucques is incredible. I had Sunday Supper for Mothers' Day, and it was lovely experience. Initially, though, the service was terrible. We were not greeted by our server until we had been sitting at the table for 10 min. Then, we waited over 30 min between our first and second courses, although this perhaps was not the fault of our server. The dessert and remainder of our evening was great. Salad was delicious with hazelnuts and banyuls cherry vinaigrette. Both entrees (hand cut pasta with lobster and a lamb crepinette with lentils and favas) were divine. I will definitely return to Lucques whenever I am in LA. I am a fan of Suzanne Goin, and my high expectations were met completely. Just absolutely amazing, heavenly food!"

  • "We went for Mother's day dinner. The ambiance was very unattractive. We were served cold sliced bread that you get in your home for making toast as opposed warm, freshly baked bread with nice aroma. "

  • "The menu offered creative recipes. The dishes were very tasty. We had the suckling pig, hangar steak, and an asparagus salad. All had ingredients we had not had before with those dishes and each dish sparkled with a sophisticated blend of ingredients. None was disappointing at all. Hats off to the chef!"

  • "Went to Lucques to celebrate Mothers' Day. I started with a refreshing fruity cocktail, continued with a crisp salad, enjoyed the scallops over a bed of lentils and shredded duck confit, and ended with the confection chocolate plate. The waitress was knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic about the meal and its preparation."
