The Sunday dinners are a great deal for the quality of the food, the elegant ambiance, and excellent service. Each course is a delightful experience. For a starter, we had a inventive salad of arugula, a slice of prociutto, amazing goat cheese, hazelnuts, and apricots. What a fun assortment of flavors! We both had the duck confit with haricot vert and it was so delicious. The fruit tart desert was also subtle and just the perfect ending to a perfect meal. The food has always been exceptional. One thing we have noticed is that the service has gotten incredibly slow. The servers are top-notch professionals, but the last three or four times we have eaten at Lucques we have noticed remarkably slow service. From the day it opened, whether it is a special event like the annual roasted lamb dinner), new year"s eve, Sunday night dinner,Saturday lunch or sitting at the bar to eat, we are never disappointed. Every time we eat there, I think we should come here more often. Food is always flavorful and well presented. The vegetables are interesting and delicious. The fish and meats cooked perfectly. The wine pairings perfect and not expensive. And, the desserts are never overly sweet. This is the first review I have ever written. We are great admirerers of Suzanne"s palate even cooking from her cookbook. Objectively, the service was great: timely, efficient, unobtrusive, but something was lacking. The wait staff seemed a bit robotic and perfunctory.
The asparagus was spectacular, charred, succulent and properly spiced, but it sat on a bland bed of cheese (I think--maybe burrata). The lamb was stunning. However, the chocolate cake was way too busy, both visually and in terms of taste.

Noise level was good--we didn't want anything too noisy. We were surprised by the music selection. It was quite young--lots of music my sister and friend and I listen to. We were expecting a more mature musical ambience. It was fine since it was music we like but not necessarily what you'd expect considering the rest of the restaurant's ambience. My entree was the least interesting of the three, but I tried my sister's entree and my mom's and both were very good. I would not recommend the market fish (barramundi) w/ coconut rice and curried peas. I was expecting a much stronger flavor and it was quite mild, almost too mild. I dined indoors for the first time and I preferred it to the outdoor space and would recommend it. At a restaurant like this, I have discovered that if I order the special of the night, regardless of what it is, I am never disappointed with what I get. That was certainly the case this night. Excellent! Also, the wine selection at Lucques is top notch and unless you really know what you're doing you can trust the expertise of the people there. The food is on the list of the best in LA. If you like short ribs..... do yourself a favor and visit! All of their food is wonderful, their staff are engaged, professional and gentle. They want to ensure you have a wonderful experience and they leave nothing to chance. Come early because they fill up and I suggest you make reservations! Whenever I have family or friends in town visiting, I bring them. All who come back to LA always ask if we can return!
