A word from Lucques
Since opening in 1998 Lucques has garnered extraordinary accolades and is now recognized as one of the country’s best restaurants. It's California cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences is served in the warm and intimate setting of the rustic carriage house of the original Harold Lloyd estate.

One of the reasons for the all the acclaim is the Sunday Supper, the night that best exemplifies the original mission of owners Chef Suzanne Goin and Sommelier Caroline Styne, by offering seasonal prix fix menus that re-create the atmosphere of a relaxed family dinner.

Disappointed on this visit. The food was not up to the high standards set by Going. Too much oil in everyone's main course( 3 different selections).

What can I tell - i was expecting more from this restaurant. It was #5 at top 101 best LA restaurant and the food wasn't good. The first courses were nice , but the entres and the desserts - we didn't even eat half of them - they were not tasty!

Waiter rushed us from the moment we sat down. We were there for the first time and for a birthday dinner and wanted to relax and enjoy our evening. There's a difference in an attentive waiter and one that hovers to turn a table more quickly. Drinks were placed in front of the wrong person, food not described willingly and just not gracious or even pleasant server.

This was my first trip back to Los Angeles in 20 years. My friends that I was visiting had recommended several new restaurants. However, I prefer to read up on restaurants that are not just trendy but enduring! And, that's how I found Lucques. I checked out reviews, read the menu and just new this was the restaurant I wanted to visit. To say the least, I was not disappointed. Everything about Lucques was perfect. A truly original menu, authentic fresh ingredients that allowed you to taste all the unique flavors and spice. Every dish was so delicious that we decided to share them and everyone one was delighted. The beautiful earthy tones of the restaurant decor were warm and inviting. I'd go back in a heartbeat on my next trip to LA.

We saw this place on a few foodie lists so checked it out. The mains were really good, steak and chicken with chimichurri was very tasty (although the skin was really fatty and oily feeling.) The appetizer salads we tried were just ok, and certainly not at the price point. Overall, it wasn't a fantastic dining experience but the staff is very kind.

    Dined on 9/20/2014
Have wanted to eat at Lucques for a while and went as a birthday treat. Charming ambiance, good (not exceptional) food. Should have been a good review, BUT: VERY expensive wine list. Our moderate bottle of Californian red was $290...on a total bill of $500. There are just two bathrooms. I stood in line for 10 minutes while my steak went cold. It took 15 minutes to process our credit card, so long that our Über driver left. As a result my husband reduced the tip. And the waiter chased us onto the street as we waited to know why we'd paid less than recommended. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't service charge discretional? Birthday dinner spoiled. We won't be going back.

Incredible food and great service. Wine list was pricey to the point of being pretentious. Not enough moderately priced wines on the wine list. When dinner is $100.00, do I really need an $800.00 bottle of wine, or even a bunch of choices at over $300.00? I mean seriously! How about a selection of good wines from $50.00 to $100.00.

Our party of four celebrated our wedding anniversary with the Sunday Suppers evening at Lucques. We arrived a few minutes early. The hostess was very cordial and gave us the choice of a few outside tables and a few tables inside. We chose inside as it was quite a warm evening. Our server, Sarah, was absolutely wonderful. She was skillful with pouring our wine and very knowledgeable about the menu. I would hope to have her serve us again. We had a difficult time deciding between the duck confit and the trout and finally went with the trout. She allowed us to order one of the duck confit dinners to share for a mid course, which turned out to be a great idea. We all got to taste it and still have the trout. We all loved our dinner.

I had been wanting to try Lucques for over a year now, but avoided during LA Restaurant Week because I heard the select menu was not very appealing. Finally went - unfortunately we were not offered to sit on the outside patio. It took a good 10 minutes before a waiter offered us a drink - I'm not sure if it was where we were sitting, but our server was not attentive & I needed to ask for a wine top-up more than once. The food was very good - I tried the short ribs & they were amazing. But I can't get past the poor service standards - especially for a restaurant that has added the 3% Healthcare levy.

We've only been in LA for a year and a half since moving from NYC, and we've found LA restaurants have finally become really good. They're terrific compared with 20 years ago. But in all this good news, we hadn't still found our "go to" place; our favorite. Until now. We've been to Lucques twice in the past three weeks and all we can say is "we're home". It is simply the best restaurant in Los Angeles.

If you're looking for a pleasant place w/ amazing food to celebrate a life event, Lucques is just the place. We were lucky to be seated behind the chimney where we enjoyed the breeze from the outside patio. I ordered the steak w/ a nice glass of pinot noir after first munching on a soft-shell crab app. I've enjoyed coming to Lucques over the years and it never ceases to amaze me how good, organic, local food simply goes the distance and makes for a memorable meal.
