A word from Lucques
Since opening in 1998 Lucques has garnered extraordinary accolades and is now recognized as one of the country’s best restaurants. It's California cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences is served in the warm and intimate setting of the rustic carriage house of the original Harold Lloyd estate.

One of the reasons for the all the acclaim is the Sunday Supper, the night that best exemplifies the original mission of owners Chef Suzanne Goin and Sommelier Caroline Styne, by offering seasonal prix fix menus that re-create the atmosphere of a relaxed family dinner.

Lucques is wonderfully consistent, meaning that every meal is beautifully prepared and delicious. Four of us this evening had four different entrees. We were all delighted. This is not a frou frou tasting menu restaurant. This is solid food, served on solid dinnerware by professional servers who get their food from the great chefs working the stoves in the kitchen.

Each year when my girlfriend from France visits, we go to Lucques for a late lunch and always order the same thing: their Steak Frites served with Bearnaise sauce on the side and a beautiful arugula salad...the tiny dish of oiled almonds and olives and country bread with French butter with side of sea salt is something to look forward to as you wait for your entree. Wine list is superb by the glass and their chocolate torte for dessert makes the entire experience memorable. An espresso at the very end just brings everything to a perfect close...We'll be back every year for as long as they remain as consistent and hospitable....

We had not eaten here in some time, although it was a favorite in the past. What a delight to find it better than ever. Ask for the patio;it is an oasis in Los Angeles. The endive and hosui pear salad is is not to be missed. Also good that night were the winter squash and fennel soup and albacore with braised leeks. Two at our table had the hanger steak and loved it, but the stand out was the suckling pig with cornbread pudding, rapini, chorizo cantimpalo and sherry glaze. Oh, my!

My mom and I have been making Suzanne Goin's recipes for years and finally had the chance to try her food at Lucques! Overall, we were very satisfied with the experience—wonderful food, extensive wine list, and very friendly service. The braised short ribs were exquisite, and all the starters we tried were delicious. We were impressed!

All four of us enjoyed our meals very much. The service and food were stellar and I would certainly return. One remarkably impressive aspect for wine lovers: an absolutely amazing inventory of hard to get California vintages/years. The proprietor obviously has impressive connections to carry such wines. Expensive, of course, but more reasonable, fine options carried too.

We came here to celebrate my birthday. We found the cocktails interesting and tasty. Service is very good. Food was inventive and yummy. The only thing that ruined my evening was being seated on the patio at a table that was so close to another table I found it difficult to carry on a conversation with my husband. It was as if I had an uninvited guest at my table.

We had a reservation for 2 for dinner on a tuesday night, when we arrived 70% of seats were empty, we requested a patio table, they said all occupied or reserved (but even after we ate they still had 50% empty eats in patio!?) I thought this was a disrespectful gesture on part of the hostess that night. Service was very slow and inattentive we had to ask for water refills many times. I would not go back and not recommend to anyone, too pricy for regular food and substandard service.

Waiter rushed us from the moment we sat down. We were there for the first time and for a birthday dinner and wanted to relax and enjoy our evening. There's a difference in an attentive waiter and one that hovers to turn a table more quickly. Drinks were placed in front of the wrong person, food not described willingly and just not gracious or even pleasant server.

This was my first trip back to Los Angeles in 20 years. My friends that I was visiting had recommended several new restaurants. However, I prefer to read up on restaurants that are not just trendy but enduring! And, that's how I found Lucques. I checked out reviews, read the menu and just new this was the restaurant I wanted to visit. To say the least, I was not disappointed. Everything about Lucques was perfect. A truly original menu, authentic fresh ingredients that allowed you to taste all the unique flavors and spice. Every dish was so delicious that we decided to share them and everyone one was delighted. The beautiful earthy tones of the restaurant decor were warm and inviting. I'd go back in a heartbeat on my next trip to LA.

We saw this place on a few foodie lists so checked it out. The mains were really good, steak and chicken with chimichurri was very tasty (although the skin was really fatty and oily feeling.) The appetizer salads we tried were just ok, and certainly not at the price point. Overall, it wasn't a fantastic dining experience but the staff is very kind.

    Dined on 9/20/2014
Have wanted to eat at Lucques for a while and went as a birthday treat. Charming ambiance, good (not exceptional) food. Should have been a good review, BUT: VERY expensive wine list. Our moderate bottle of Californian red was $290...on a total bill of $500. There are just two bathrooms. I stood in line for 10 minutes while my steak went cold. It took 15 minutes to process our credit card, so long that our Über driver left. As a result my husband reduced the tip. And the waiter chased us onto the street as we waited to know why we'd paid less than recommended. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't service charge discretional? Birthday dinner spoiled. We won't be going back.

Incredible food and great service. Wine list was pricey to the point of being pretentious. Not enough moderately priced wines on the wine list. When dinner is $100.00, do I really need an $800.00 bottle of wine, or even a bunch of choices at over $300.00? I mean seriously! How about a selection of good wines from $50.00 to $100.00.

Our party of four celebrated our wedding anniversary with the Sunday Suppers evening at Lucques. We arrived a few minutes early. The hostess was very cordial and gave us the choice of a few outside tables and a few tables inside. We chose inside as it was quite a warm evening. Our server, Sarah, was absolutely wonderful. She was skillful with pouring our wine and very knowledgeable about the menu. I would hope to have her serve us again. We had a difficult time deciding between the duck confit and the trout and finally went with the trout. She allowed us to order one of the duck confit dinners to share for a mid course, which turned out to be a great idea. We all got to taste it and still have the trout. We all loved our dinner.
