A word from Lucques
Since opening in 1998 Lucques has garnered extraordinary accolades and is now recognized as one of the country’s best restaurants. It's California cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences is served in the warm and intimate setting of the rustic carriage house of the original Harold Lloyd estate.

One of the reasons for the all the acclaim is the Sunday Supper, the night that best exemplifies the original mission of owners Chef Suzanne Goin and Sommelier Caroline Styne, by offering seasonal prix fix menus that re-create the atmosphere of a relaxed family dinner.

Diner Reviews
  • "Lovely service and food. I wish there were gluten free bread options for the bread basket and market fish offering. "

  • "Went for a Sunday supper featuring Peggy Smith and Sue Conley of Cowgirl Creamery, their new cookbook and their wonderful Marin County cheeses. The food and service were terrific, especially with a vegetarian substitution for the steak, and it was great to see the Cowgirls! What's next? The Cowgirls Go Camping?"

  • "Beautiful day, beautiful patio, beautiful bounty. Service was amazing and a fantastic menu made it difficult to choose, so just close your eyes, point to the menu at random, and you won't be disappointed. It's all that good."

  • "I felt the food was both delicious and disappointing. The bread, w. butter, salt, olives and almonds, was delicious. We (3) shared two appetizers: the citrus salad - delicious and the fried squid odd - cold (why?) and served w. fava bean puree, which seemed misguided. The rabbit was delicious. The skirt steak and scallops were not. The scallops, served with lentils and duck were interesting, but not great. The duck was dry/crisp, without much flavor. The steak was odd, smothered in a sauce made w. nuts, as well as baked ricotta. The meat was gristly and the accompaniements did not offer a contrast to the beef. There was no clarity of taste. We shared the Napoleon - yummy and incredibly rich. I wanted to love Lucques, but didn't."

  • "I've been cooking recipes from the Sunday Suppers at Lucques for several years now so it was a delight to finally enjoy one prepared properly! I'd go often if I lived in LA - a great tradition."

  • "We sat in the courtyard and the atmosphere was fantastic. We each had different main courses and desserts and everyone enjoyed their meal. The waiter helped us choose a wine and it was very good. We look forward to going again the next time we are in town."

  • "LA restaurants have lately been so predictable I can almost guess what's going to be on the menu before I look at it. Lucques menu includes uniquely prepared but approachable dishes that are a welcome surprise. I had ricotta stuffed dumplings with asparagus and fava beans and a light lemon cream sauce. Fantastic. The steak at the next table came with an unexpected sauce and garnish. The desserts are fresh and not overpowering. We ate in the smallish dining room but there is a large wonderful garden dining area. The service is friendly but professional and I was pleased that the server could accurately describe the dish preparations. There were numerous by-the-glass wine choices. I hope to return soon."

  • "I have been dining at Lucques occasionally for the past 15 years. Our experience this past Saturday was so bad that I will not return. Our party of 4 were unanimous in our feeling. Food quality fair at best, inattentive service (the place was packed so maybe the staff were overworked) and very overpriced. The only positive of the night was the bartender who makes a perfect Manhattan."

  • "First time at Lucques and will definitely return. They were very accommodating and the appetizers, entrees and desserts were all worth returning for."

  • "The three of us all enjoyed our dinner very much. Everything was delicious. Very good service and a comfortable and pretty restaurant."

  • "Loved the food and the notable wine listing. A bit pricey but they always say "you get what you pay for" and it was well worth it."

  • "I don't review often. I know the restaurant scene in LA well. AOC is a fave, and Tavern is great. However, I'd never been to Lucques despite years of wanting to go.Finally went to a Sunday Supper. It was everything I'd been told and more. Fact is, you can't do better than her food.Salximbata sauce on the skirt steak stole the show; the apple tart in a flaky crust with silky crème fraiche was a runner up. My black cod was delicious, as were the HUGE spears of asparagus, braised w.brown butter, mustard vinaigrette, walnuts and speck. While the food is superb--I would hold it up against Providence or Spago--the ambiance is so warm & inviting that it's 1 of the most comfortable dinners I've ever had in LA. Service (and value) were phenomenal."

  • "My favorite restaurant in LA. Outstanding food. Warm atmosphere. Great experienced service. Welcoming at every level."

  • "Lucques was nice, the waitstaff was attentive, and the hostess helped us get a table outside which is imop a better vibe than indoors. I had the short ribs which were really good. I tend to like bold flavored so when I first bit in I was a little underwhelmed by the simplicity of flavor but impressed by the tenderness and quality. As I continued on I was able to appreciate the subtle nuance of flavors and ended up thinking it was really well done. We sat outside which is quite nice and has a great warm light to it. Apparently there was a 5.1 earthquake while we ate but I never even felt it. I guess that means that the ambience is captivating, lol."

  • "One of my essential dining favorites is a nice quiet dinner on a Sunday night and Lucques delivers as always with it's Sunday Supper Prix-fixe series. Suzanne Goine once again is proved a master of Lamb Osso Buco and the squid salad is wonderfully thought out. The wine pairings with each course show the servers here are at the the top of their game when it comes to recommendations."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our time at Lucques, from the slight wait time to be seated (we were graciously thanked for waiting) through our walk out the door. The food was superb and memorable, the cocktails are out of this world, and every member of the service staff we encountered was very professional and helpful. We were looking for the perfect romantic spot to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and we found it!"

  • "I'm a big Suzanne fan. Lucques is where I go for gourmet comfort food in a cozy, friendly setting. Every meal is a delicious experience."

  • "It isn't easy to accommodate 7 New Yorker Foodies but we were welcomed and taken care of from drinks to wine to desert. Outstanding salads, (California has such great produce) just the right amount of yummy Meyer lemon dressing - all entrees fabulous and chocolate cake to die for. Go and Enjoy it!"

  • "I went here day before St Patrick's Day, and brought my 14 year old for her birthday treat. Loved the experience, but just wish that there had been just one more option that was a little bit more child friendly. She didn't love her Corned Beef nor my clams (which I just LOVED!). I realize that Sunday Supper is set, but even if the kitchen could have just one off menu other kid friendly option it'd be nice. Either way, I really enjoyed it the experience. Service was phenomenal. The two top seating is a little bit close to each other. We could hear everything on both sides of us so it'd be better if the tables could be a bit further apart. If you're going for a romantic dinner & want privacy, be sure to mention it during your reservation."

  • "a nice time had by all. I had the rabbit and it would have been so much better if they had served if "off" the bone. Portions a bit small but delicious. I wish I had ordered the dumpings....Decent wine list but we did send back the only burgundy as it was laughably thin....surprising considering the owner's knowledge of wines...."

  • "Our meals were perfect, as we've come to expect; we've been coming to Lucques for 10-12 years? The manager personally took care of checking with the kitchen regarding my wife's seafood allergy and she felt confident enough that she actually orderer fish in a restaurant and it was superb eastern halibut. This was the first time service was off and I really think it was the server, not the kitchen; he just wasn't "with it," he seemed to have a take it or leave it attitude. But, the food is most important and it was delicious!"

  • "We came here for our birthday dinners. One of us is vegetarian and she did not suffer! She adored the ricotta dumplings with spring veggies. I had the Harissa chicken with root veggies and tapenade. OH YUM! Amazing. We split the oh so rich and delicious hazelnut chocolate napoleon with coffee ice cream. The hazelnut cream was so vibrant. Feast for the taste buds. Amazing food, great ambiance. Love the fireplace."

  • "Very romantic restaurant. Ambience and service were good. Feel of restaurant was great. The food was poor. The quality of the individual ingredients was good. But the overall dishes were poor in taste, and so the experience as a whole was disappointing. I don't think I will be returning."

  • "Nice little spot, with amazing food. Limited menu - we went on Sunday dinner where they had pre-fix menu. Both the dishes were super good. Excellent service and they even accommodated our request to sit in corner table. Paid attention to details."

  • "Suzanne Goin just hits it out of the park every time! Lovely evening!!!"

  • "I haven't been here for years but it's so refreshing to find a restaurant with top notch food, beautiful rustic, smart decor (instead of the ubiquitous cliched reclaimed wood, torture hard iron and wood chairs and edison bulbs everywhere for the last 10 years) and no bartender serving "craft cocktails" with a handlebar mustache or servers with arms covered with tattoos. Just great food, really comfortable surrounding and a low murmur of conversation."

  • "For my money, Lucques is the best in town. The food is fantastic, always hits the right note, and the atmosphere is so enjoyable, comfortable without being slack. Really, it's one of my favorite restaurants in the country."

  • "After all these years, still a great place. Highly recomend."

  • "Lucques after 15+years continues to maintain its quality and high standards for elegant rustic cuisine. Inventive, charming and yet intense flavors and taste. Yet the even at this point, the kitchen seems overwhelmed in the 'rush hour' when the restaurant is full . Some the wait staff are gracious and attentive...particularly once you are seated. Others appear diffident and overwhelmed by the number of diners. Still the cocktails are creative, The wine list seems way, way, way overpriced..most wines are $100 and above. You can find some that are lessor priced, but you have to search. Wines by the glass selection list has some value though. Nonetheless, All in all a delightful dining experience."

  • "4of us for dinner at 8:00 on a Friday. Waitress was terrific...knew the menu, comfortable making recommendations, friendly but not intrusive. Food was excellent: duck confit salad, citrus salad and white bean soup for starters. Short ribs, pork scallopini, ricotta dumpling, and arctic char for dinner. Finished with the cheese plate and hazelnut napoleon for dessert. A great unrushed meal with food I'd return for..."

  • "Had a great time - have loved this place for over 15 years. Surprising wine list, moderately priced and not a lot of well known stuff, but not the esoteric interesting wine list that usually accompanies fine dining without a traditional list. Had a blast though!"

  • "In a foodie ghetto this one is the most relaxed and beautiful dining locations. The food is more than acceptable and the service excellent. One problem: twice now my reservation through open table has been incorrect. The first time they had the wrong day and the second the wrong time even though I confirmed. So watch out for the interface between online reservations and the info at the desk."

  • "My husband and I love the relaxed feel of this place - the greenery on the patio and the low lighting throughout the restaurant make for a romantic experience. We definitely would return to try more dishes. The white bean soup had a perfect balance of ingredients and the market fish (cod) was fantastic. The service was well-timed and friendly, and the wine list was extensive."

  • "We had a reservation for 8:30 and arrived on time but we did not have a table until around 9:00. When I make a reservation, I expect not to have to wait when I arrive. But the staff kept us informed and apologized for the inconvenience. It was totally forgotten when they offered us champagne. The waiter's service was good, though not exceptional. The food was very good. I had the rabbit, that I liked but didn't love, and my husband had the harissa chicken that he found excellent. I had a bite of it a regretted not having it. It was really good. For desert, I had the Napoleon, and my husband had the chocolate cake. Both were excellent. The decoration is simple, yet refined. We enjoyed our evening. Solid 4 stars."

  • "This was my first visit even though I'm a WeHo local and the charming Chef Suzanne Goin teased me about that when she stopped by our table to say hello. I will definitely be back much sooner this time! The food is incredible (the short ribs are to die for), but that's to be expected from this talented chef. While the restaurant itself is gorgeous and comfortable, what really amazed my dining partner and me was the service. Absolutely impeccable. We were cared for on every level at every moment but never intruded upon--it's an art form to execute service at that level and Lucques has it mastered. Thanks to everyone who made our experience so special. Lucques is my new favorite neighborhood restaurant!"
