  • "I arrived before my reservation time to have a drink at the bar. The bar was busy but the bartender was great and it only took a few minutes to get a drink. Their cocktails are inventive and the ones I had were very good, they also have a great whiskey selection. I moved from the bar to my table once my group showed up (5 people) and the tab transition was seamless. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was delicious! I had the pork belly which was one of the best meals I have had in awhile. Two people in our group had the buttermilk fried chicken looked wonderful and I was told it tasted as good as it looked."

  • "Lucky, just off Market Square in downtown Roanoke, looks like a little unassuming neighborhood bar that should be serving the usual average "pub fare" - but, oh no - what comes out of the kitchen here is truly special. Innovative French-American cuisine with flair and style, absolutely delicious. The wait staff is equally professional and knowledgeable. The wine list, impressive. And the variety of cocktails - well, they too are both innovative and sinfully good. Get lucky, and if you haven't, discover "Lucky" in downtown Roanoke. You'll be thanking your lucky stars."

  • "Lucky is one of our favorite restaurants in Roanoke. The food is consistently excellent, and the cocktails are imaginative and vary withe the seasons. It is obvious that a lot of thought and effort goes into this place!"

  • "I've been to Lucky several times now, and every time it's been a perfect experience. Great service, great ambience and food that is ideally prepared. Lucky is interesting is that it's a bit of a chameleon: it's a great place to hang out and have drinks, it's perfect for meeting a group of friends for dinner and it's ideal as a romantic dinner spot, too."

  • "Lucky perfectly mixes interesting & delicious food, drink/wine/beer choices & environment. The braised Rockfish with flageolots, & the Bison Flank steak w/ mash..both perfect, fresh and tasty. The Octopus with Orange and Peppers appetizer wasperfection. Service is perfect--knowledgeable, friendly, bringing drinks and food to tables. Lucky masters the science/magic/work ethic for a perfect dining experience. The size, colors, lighting are comfortable, interesting & intimate. We will be back and back and back for more."

  • "Our first visit to Lucky-party of four-mixed reviews. We were so glad our table was located in the entry area and not the main dining room. This small venue was very loud in the bar/dining area. We started with two requests to the chef for slight changes and there was no flexibility which made us feel a bit unwelcome. Mussels were excellent, salads were very good, scallops perfectly cooked. fried chicken over-cooked with burned areas. This is a nice option in Roanoke. We would return and recommend but not a go-to destination for us."

  • "Super quick seating after last minute open table reservation. Responsive server who knew the menu and paced our meal expertly. Food was hot and plated well. Can't wait to come back with more people!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed a first time dinner at Lucky and had two excellent entrees, Sea Bass and their fried chicken.A good wine and stout were a good accompaniment. We finished with an excellent chocolate dish with some gelato. We would definitely return."

  • "Everything about Lucky was just great. You must, must order the duck if it is on the menu!"

  • "The Rockfish special with Couscous was to die for. It was unique & perfectly prepared & presented. My wife & I have dined there several times & enjoyed every meal. The music was too loud for our taste, but we were still able to carry on a conversation with our friends. The bar is near the dining tables & full of young professionals. I gather many young downtown residents frequent Lucky."

  • "Lucky is always a wonderful experience! I always find myself drawn into their lovely space and to there most delicious local foods which are simple, both light and hearty and also creative. The staff and owners go far and beyond any expectations I could ever have for working with their customers and pleasing them too. It shows how much Lucky loves what they are doing and the people they are doing this for. Thank you so very much Lucky, for giving our city a comfortable intimate especially delicious place to enjoy ourselves and you. :) You are a gem."

  • "The food and service were exceptional, as were the cocktails and wine list. The noise level was too high for pleasant dining conversation. We were there on a Saturday night and plan to return on a week night to see if the restaurant is quieter."

  • "Four of us dined at Lucky's on a Saturday night. It was unanimous that the restaurant surpassed our expectations! The server was wonderful, the food delicious and the atmosphere warm and inviting. The cheese sampler was especially good as was the bread. The menu selections were very diverse and the restaurant offers appetizers and entrees not usually found in the Roanoke valley. We will definitely revisit Lucky's!"

  • "This restaurant could use a couple more dish options on the menu such as fish. I don't eat meat and my only option was fried chicken or a vegetarian dish. I was really in the mood for fish. Just a bit overpriced by a few dollars. I really like the atmosphere and location and want to see it succeed."

  • "Great food and the mixologist was the best! Maggie our server was top notch as well. Was a pleasure meeting the owners as well."

  • "Food was awful. Salty and mushy. I had curry poussin and it was gross. The chicken was very fatty and the curry was salty and overwhelming. My girlfriend had rockfish and the sauce was extremely creamy and salty and overwhelmed the flavor of the dish. Extremely expensive."

  • "Our food was outstanding. They always seem to be doing something very trendy at this restaurant. The cocktails are always outstanding. The service is great!"

  • "Even though I made the reservation months in advance, our Valentine's day table was in what can only be described as the "lobby" - the ambience of that room was terrible, and left us feeling like second class citizens. The fried chicken was delicious, but a leg and a thigh? That feels cheap. The New York Strip was good for a $20 steak. Unfortunately it cost $36. The redeeming factors were: Our server, who was terrific, and the absolutely sensational bourbon drink made with the huge, doctored up ice cube. For our family, prices at Lucky make it a special occasion restaurant, but I won't be back for another special occasion. I may, however, drop in for a seat at the bar and a couple of those bourbons."

  • "The owner of this restaurant chooses local meats, seafood and vegetables. The cherries in your drink are from a neighborhood tree, he making his own bitters. There are drinks that you cannot find anywhere else. The food is fantastic!"

  • "Had the fried chicken and mash with kale. It was a very pleasant spin on a classic meal. The cube drink was a perfect compliment."

  • "Wife and I had been dying to try Lucky for a year or so. Went on a Tuesday night and were disappointed to no end. Don't misunderstand, the food was ok. The service was ok. But for $115 in Roanoke, it should have been outstanding. From what I can tell, I think the restaurant is living off of past glory. Look around in the Roanoke area for other places to eat before coming here."

  • "A gem of a restaurant, Lucky stands out for its quality, ambiance, menu and service. It is unlike any restaurant between Washington DC and the Carolina's. The cocktails here are well thought and of the highest quality. The menu is full of fresh ideas and changes daily, with some seasonal delights popping up from time to time. The staff is friendly and outgoing. If you are a diner that finds comfort in franchise and does not appreciate quality, then Lucky may not be for you- go to a shopping mall. If you are someone that enjoys a unique, tasty meal with crafted beers and drinks from an amazing staff- then please proceed to make a reservation! And enjoy!"

  • "One of the best dinners we have had in Roanoke, loved the atmosphere, drink list, the fried chicken and new york strip were awesome, hope to go back soon."

  • "I love Lucky. Whenever someone asks me where to go to get a drink, my first response is always Lucky. This particular visit was special for me due to the fact my boyfriend's parents were in town. We were showing them around and trying to give them a good piece of Roanoke. Great news: they had a blast! The service was friendly and fantastic, the food was delicious and the drinks were perfect. Thanks guys for another great time!"

  • "I have to say, "Hallelujah!" for Lucky being in Roanoke. It's by far the best place in town. For cocktails it is unmatched. I don't want to drink anywhere else in town. The food is excellent and the service rocks. We had a party of 10 and they took good care of us despite a crowd."

  • "My wife and I came here to celebrate a special occasion at the suggestions of several friends. We were very impressed. The service was excellent - our waiter was attentive and good at suggesting cocktails. Wife started with the mussels and I had the blueberry bacon salad which were both great. We ordered the fried chicken and the steak and again both were fantastic. Finished the night off with the bread pudding and were not disappointed. Only downside was that a 3-course dinner with cocktails got a bit pricey, will unfortunately have to save this place for future special occasions. Bottom line - I would recommend this restaurant to friends - amazing food, creative and unique cocktails. A high-end Roanoke dining experience."

  • "I absolutely love Lucky. The food is great, but the drinks are some of the best I have had anywhere in the world. Every time I am in the area, I tried to stop by Lucky."

  • "Lucky has been a long time favorite of mine. The staff is super friendly, the drinks are delicious (seriously, skip the beer, go for a cocktail), and the food is good. If you want food, get a reservation. If you're just getting some nibbles and a drink? Sit at the bar. You won't regret your trip there."

  • "My husband ordered the beet and goat cheese salad but he received the blueberry salad. I ordered the New York Strip medium rare and I received it medium well. The sauce that came alongside the steak was a little out of place with the strange square of blue cheese that sat with my salad. Usually we have a great experience here. Maybe just an off night."

  • "This was my second visit to Lucky. I originally went with my sisters when it opened. It wasn't quite so noisy at that time. We were not fans of the food. It's the type of food we grew up on so we didn't find it particularly special. This time my husband and I went with another couple who had heard all sorts of rave reviews. The food is pretty much the same - not particularly inspired. The noise level was through the roof. Really difficult to carry on a conversation. The bar crowd was impressive and they made most of the noise just talking. The acoustics really need some work."
    Dined on 11/14/2013
  • "The food was excellent. I think there was only one server working, so the service was pretty slow, but since we were there for a romantic birthday dinner, it wasn't really a problem. Definitely worth checking out! (And try the marrow bones.)"

  • "You may be thinking "am I in the right place?" as you get close to this restaurant. It is in what is almost an alley, but feels warm and comforting when you get inside. The bar staff were top notch, taking care of every last detail to make specialty drinks. The food was good, but this is coming from a vegetarian who was limited to one item on the menu. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and makes good use of little space. All in all, an awesome place to grab high class drinks, and a great place to eat."

  • "Start with an original cocktail from their list: it will be very difficult to choose! Then move on to small plates, or a hearty dinner. The menu is creative, enticing, and created with fantastic ingredients, thoughtfully and excellently prepared."
