Lucille'sWe went for a late lunch,We went for a late lunch, and it was not crowded, and therefore very quiet.
The food and the service were very good. There were some unusual sandwiches, such as an oyster BLT, which was very good.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were wonderful.Food and service were wonderful. We went on a Saturday for lunch, and they were not busy at that time. A great time to go. Also love the story of this restaurant. It is a nice, independent / locally owned restaurant. We will go back for sure.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFrequent PatronDining at Lucille's is always a pleasure. This time I ordered the Fruits of the Bayou - and had a wonderful tomato-flavored broth in which shrimp, mussels and sweet corn were nestled. This was accompanied by a wedge of melt in your mouth cornbread!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNice surprise! We had a wonderful dinner experience at Lucille's! We had the green tomatoes, sliders and biscuits as appetizers and loved them! We all had the pork and beans as the entrée and it was delicious! I couldn't finish my portion but the men did. The dessert menu looked fantastic, too. I would definitely go back.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother Hidden GemMy husband and I are always looking for new places to dine. I found this restaurant on open table. We book all of our reservations on open table. A few things: We noted it was a first time visit, so when we were seated way in the back corner we were disappointed. We had to ask our server about recommendations. Not much engaging. Overall good.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMloved the shrimp and gritsloved the shrimp and grits and fried chicken. The gem was the fried green tomatoes!!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMMy first time at Lucille'sMy first time at Lucille's and it was memorable! We went there for lunch and I had Fried Green Tomatoes (the best) and the Backyard Garden Salad. The salad was full and flavorful. I expected to be hungry for a dessert afterward, but I passed, and instead enjoyed a cup (or two) of fresh French-pressed coffee. Delightful! The waitress told us soon they would open up outdoor seating with an outdoor grill, bar, and live music. Can't wait! A real gem for the Museum District.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMyumLucinlle'sis a treat for down home cooking--it is beautifully prepared and simply delicious-IU like that they discount for students at u of hotel school nice gesture-- mac and cheese; beans and rice shrimp risotto carbs yes and fantastic-yes southern classic cooking with a flair5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphere, food, and service! We had read about Lucille's a good while ago, and finally had an opportunity to eat here for our anniversary. So glad we did! The waiter was friendly, but not intrusive, and very helpful with a menu new to us. The food is Southern traditional, with an updated flair. We tried the fried green tomatoes--excellent-- as our appetizer. My husband had the pan roasted chicken, & I had the roasted cobia. I loved the roasted white fish, and his chicken was also well-seasoned. Also thoroughly enjoyed the accompanying side dishes.. Mine had a johnnycake underneath with braised mixed greens and a yummy sauce. We saved room to split a wonderful bread pudding with white chocolate sauce, which the waiter told us is a constant on their menu. Will return!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMLucille'sI enjoyed my meal so much. I had the shrimp and grits and my sister had baked chicken with kale. It was exceptional.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAfter MFAH ...After enjoying a late afternoon at MFAH, we walked over to Lucille's. We had heard good things about the restaurant since its opening earlier this year and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The setting was friendly and comfortable, much like the staff and menu choices. The respect for traditional southern foods was evident although not to the point of being old-fashioned. And although the southern theme ran throughout the menu, there was still a nice variety and all choices seem to be presented with a modern-day twist. After eating, we checked out the soon--to-open barbecue deck out back -- it gives us another option to consider when we dine at Lucille's again. And no doubt about it, we will be dining at Lucille's again.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDown Home ChicWe are usually not fans of "southern cooking", but Lucille's was great. Their version of pork and beans is excellent. Some
of the best beans I've ever eaten. The fried snapper was fantastic too. We want to go back and try the fried chicken and
oxtails. Wish the dessert list was more than 2 items.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasantly SurprisedFrom the outside this reastaurant might not draw you in. I heard about it from a friend and decide to try it. Met immediately just inside the door, the hostess promptly seated us and our wonderful dining experience took off. The service, food and atmosphere are great. I can hardly wait to get back.
The menu is not vast, but but each dish ordered was unique and delicious.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLucille'sHave been here for lunch twice before, this was my first dinner experence. Love the food! Love the menu. But...this go round it seemed the heirloom tomato salad had shrunk from a few months back (but still delicious); and I cannot say for sure what happened, but the bread pudding which I had had before at lunch, and which I raved about to the table, was not the same. All in all would gladly return.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was our first visit toIt was our first visit to Lucille's and we were not disappointed. The food and service was excellent. We are planning now to go back with friends and family.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeAlways good eats at Lucilles. Great Shrimp and Grits. The oyster sliders were outstanding. My meal was delicious. I'll be back5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFood very good, revise andFood very good, revise and knowledgable wait staff just great.
Wll return to try other menu items. Favorites this visit included oyster sliders and fish entree and farm tomato salad.
Only suggested improvements would be white tablecloth instead of coriander topped tables.
Attractive restaurant , fun menu, nice ambiance.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best cuisine inOne of the best cuisine in Downtown and Houston area – taste fantastic !!!! Must order :
PORK & BEANS
BRAISED OXTAILS
ROASTED COBIA
FRIED YARD BIRD5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMyum + food memoriesWe love Lucille's. In response to the restaurant's tagline "a culinary art history of southern cooking", we give an A+++. During this most recent dinner, we southerners at the table started with Chef Chris Williams' versions of the chili biscuits and fried green tomatoes then continued with Yardbird and Pork & Beans. To try to describe the perfection of each dish would be audacious, as words can't describe. This place is food memory recreated on a plate. We ate and talked about our families' traditions--who cooked what, how, when and so forth. The southerners in our party were transfixed by their history; the northerners in our party started (at long last) to understand what we mean when we talk about food. Thank you Chef!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter Than EverI have been to Lucilles several times and it continues to be a favorite. I thought it was wonderful even when it first opened, but it is great now. They have the food and portions down perfectly. The greens and kale come from their garden, the fried green tomatoes are the best you will ever have, and the oyster sliders are delicicous! Eggs benefict cooked perfectly, and the chili biscuits amazing.
I have no complaints and am thrilled that they can take a wonderful restaurant and make it even better! There is a very cozy vibe here with a service staff that is friendly and professional.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood GemMy absolute favorite dish is the shrimp & grits. I'd highly recommend the Sunday Brunch. On my last visit, I overheard one of the owners speaking with an unhappy customer by phone. The customer was upset because there were duplicate charges on his bank statement. This had also happened to me on a previous visit, so I made a point to mention this to the owner. In my case, there were 2 pending charges on my account; however, only one actually posted, so I never saw a need to call & complain. But, I wanted to mention to him so that he could determine if it was the same issue with the unhappy customer & also have his card machine examined. The owner was very attentive, concerned & also paid for my glass of wine.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMYUM!Awesome hand-made cockatils and the fried chicken rivals any in the country!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthern classics were preparedSouthern classics were prepared very well. We will come again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMStanleyGreat great food!!!!
Definitely order the chili biscuits5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great, as always. The food was great, as always. I could make a meal off the homemade rolls! On my first visit, the yardbird seemed pretty pricey for fried chicken. Since I take home the leftovers and get two-three meals out of it, it has become a bargain. The coffee that is freshly ground and brewed individually is delightful. The mocha creme brulee was to die for!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOverallOverall the place was good. The food was excellent but the service was very slow. Once we placed our order the food came out immediately. It was hot and delicious. Took a while to get a table and I tried to pay the bar tab before leaving for my table but I couldn't get a bartender. I think the hostess forgot we were waiting because when I asked her she seated us immediately.
I would recommend this restaurant but make sure you are not in a hurry.
Though slow the staff was friendly and accommodating.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMUniquely attractive restaurantGreat Southern personality that attracts an interestingly diverse crowd.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the food; service okayI've been to Lucille's on several occasions. Each time I enjoy the food very much. The service, however, still needs a little work. The owner should speak to his customers if he is going to walk about in the dining room. The servers seemed to be hinting that it was time to go, even though there was no one waiting. Perhaps they would get a mid-afternoon break if we left. There seems to be a hitch in service every time I go there. I keep going back and will continue to do so.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMLucille's is my favorite "neighborhLucille's is my favorite "neighborhood dive." The story is terrific; food is delicious; noise level is comfortable (you can talk); service is terrific. Haven't been out back yet, but plan to go soon. I like it.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA very happy dinerI love the cozy atmosphere and very friendly service. The menu is perfectly sized; not too many selections. Everyone needs to try the fried green tomatoes or the biscuits with chili. Being my second visit I sampled the appetizer scallops which were perfectly cooked with a delicious sauce. I have had the shrimp and grits (pure joy) and now the Fruit of the Bayou entree which is full of plenty of the sea's delicious bounty. My side order of kale was perfectly cooked and the cornbread sublime! My husband and mother loved their food too. So YES, I will definitely send all my friends there.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLucille's has soul food withLucille's has soul food with a modern (less heavy) touch. Everything you've read about the hot rolls is true; don't miss them. The oysters in the sliders are perfectly cooked, with a spicy sauce accompanying them. While classified as an appetizer, they're enough for a meal (especially after a couple of hot rolls). My husband had the shrimp and grits. The grits were so creamy, although the large shrimp were a little tough. But overall even better than Ouisie's. We shared their signature bread pudding for dessert, but it was nothing special.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been there three timesI've been there three times in the last month. The Fried Green Tomatoes, Shrimp and Grits and Lucille's Famous Hot Rolls are all so delicious! I tried the Cobia my last visit, and it was really good too. It's my new favorite place to go.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMNot to be passed over!Awesome southern comfort food. The Yard bird was great and the oxtail biscuits melted in your mouth. Awesome place if you can let go of your healthy eating habits and enjoy a great meal.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved everything about Lucille's;I loved everything about Lucille's; however, the service was lacking. When the waiter came to take our plates he reaked of cigarettes. Obviously he managed a quick smoke break during his shift. The Cobia was one of the best fish dishes I have ever had.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful menu, perfectlyWonderful menu, perfectly executed. A little noisy and chaotic back by kitchen where we were seated. Looks like outdoor dining might help.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service and food wereThe service and food were excellent. Our monthly ladies' dining club thoroughly enjoyed the great food and the enthusiastic service. We've been dining monthly together for over ten years, and I would say Lucille's ranked in the top 10%!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMLucille's is fabulous-my mealLucille's is fabulous-my meal consisted of mac and cheese hoppin john (rice and beans) and fried green tomatoes--all sides but more than enough food as the servings are generous. This is true deep south cooking and I usually have to go to charleston or Savannah or Atlanat to get this soul food delicious food; I am sure the buscuits are heavenly also--willhave to go back-soon; it is a pretty place and they are so friendly. They are gracious and the see into kitchen is fun also; many restuarants try to come up with these now trendy foods-but this is the real thing. Casual dress is fine; enjoy it.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodThe pan-roasted chicken was very moist and well-seasoned with crispy skin. Excellent. The shrimp and grits were the best I have had anywhere. We were first customers on Saturday when they opened, so it was uncrowned and peaceful. Nice background music and relaxed atmosphere. I cn imagine it gets pretty lively later in the day. Everyone at my table will be going back...multiple times.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSaw this restaurant on channelSaw this restaurant on channel 11 news.
Food was excellent. Service was nice. Expected 5-Star fine dinning according to the menu prices. Did not expect to see guest in flip flops and short.
Seating arrangements are just TOOOOO CLOSE.
Nice for a dining experience, nothing to jump up and down to want to go back.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNice Place, Great Food!Lucille's is a quaint little restaurant located in the heart of the museum district. The menu features an unusual mix of southern comfort food, with a fresh twist. I ordered the fish entrée and it was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for an enjoyable evening out on the town!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is great. Service wasFood is great. Service was congenial, but slow. Our nice waiter didn't seem as familiar with the menu or wine list as he might have. It was a very nice experience and I would encourage others to eat there, but wait staff needs a little more training.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMLucilles is a Houston GemLucille's is a short walk from Zaza Hotel and a great place for dinner. I felt equally well served with a party of 2 as I did with 7. Menu is varied but concise. Food is contemporary soul and has the vibrancy of fresh ingredients but thankfully lacks the larded heaviness of traditonal soul food. Menu highlights:An appetizer of "Oyster Sliders" presents you with fried oysters on a small toasted bun and accoutrements; unique and nice way to eat fried oysters.A main dish of "Pork and Beans" presents a large braised pork shank that falls off the bone (as it should), and resting on a bed of varied white and green beans. Excellent!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI reserved a table for 4 forI reserved a table for 4 for Easter brunch. The day of our reservation one of my party had to cancel. The restaurant was gracious and accommodated the change without issue.
We arrived on time and did not have to wait for our table. Our server Rachel was personable and never let the coffee cups or tea glasses go below halfway. She was informative about the menu, and very attentive without being the least bit intrusive.
The food was excellent. We started with chili biscuits and fried green tomatoes. Each was quite tasty.
For entrees, I had the pancakes and chicken, while my guests had waffle & chicken and french toast & chicken, respectively.
We shared bites of each entree and everything was wonderful.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMLucille's is a gem. A greatLucille's is a gem. A great twist on southern cuisine.
