Diner Reviews
  • "Mike had the fried oysters and I tried the chili biscuits on the Houston week menu and we both enjoyed them thoroughly. He had the porkchop which was huge and seasoned well, while I had to try the fried chicken. Although, I had to send my first plate back due to a tinge of blood...can't eat raw yard bird....the second plate was over the top awesome. I've been checking out the fancy fried chicken and Lucille's ranks up there with Frank's Grill and Max's Wine Dive. We will return for sure"

  • "Lucille's is a cozy restaurant in the Museum District just south of Binz. They have a great staff, especially Rebecca, and an amazing culinary line up. On our recent trip there was a large party that slowed down the kitchen, but we were able to have pleasant conversation and regular drink service. If you are in need of some good comfort food Lucille's is a great place to go."

  • "Food is off the charts great, has a hiccup on OT reservation, but Sid (Manager on duty) took care of everything, outstanding experience......."

  • "I went during the Houston Restaurant Month for brunch. The different entrees and my drink were excellent. All servers were very attentative. Even if they weren't the server for your table."

  • "Made reservations through Open Table and got there and there was people who had reservations as well waiting to be seated. They told us it's was going to be about 30 min. Got seated and got the HRW menu. The first course (fried tomatoes and fried oysters) were very good. Then I had the shrimps and grits and my bf had the pork and peas. The black eyed peas were cold and not tasty AT ALL. The pork was very underwhelming as well. For dessert we got the brownie which was ok and the bread pudding - I've had better. The silverware used was very cheap looking, the drinks were not great. In all, I wish we would have not spent $100+ here. Not worth it. Do not recommend this place!"

  • "The resaurant was very cozy located in what appeared to be an old house. We were seated 15 minutes after our reservation, but others seemed to wait longer because they had larger parties. The fried oysters were excellent with a little bit of a kick. Both my slow fried chicken and hubby's pork chop was excellent. The Wait staff was very attentive. The noise level was a little high, but I expected it to be that way on a Saturday night during Houston Restaurant Weeks."

  • "Our experience started with the hostess not even speaking to us. The next morning, Wells Fargo's Fraud Department called to say that our Debit Card number had been stolen and was used in Brooklyn within a couple of hours of paying our bill. I went through the use of our card for the previous several days (only at Lucille's and HEB (where I swiped my own card and used a pin)). Wells Fargo believed the card number was written down and supplied by phone to the person(s) in New York. I called Lucille's manager to explain what had happened. I did not lay blame on our waitress. The manager instantly became rude and said "There is NO way that happened at our restaurant!" She did not apologize and quickly hung up."

  • "Lunch for three. Reservation honored, with us being a little late d/t traffic. Entire staff was gracious; frequency of checking was just right. Excellent food; the croissant bread pudding is to fight for!"

  • "Good southern cuisine at reasonable prices. Friendly service, quality food in comfortable surroundings. The oysters and fried green tomatoes were outstanding."

  • "Food excellent, service excellent, even the water was excellent (not tap) we will make this spot our #1 choice. Thank you Lucille's!!!"

  • "We took out-of-town guests for a Saturday lunch and they loved it! Service was prompt but not rushed; food met/perhaps exceeded expectations; everyone was happy! The fact they serve lunch on Saturdays is a plus for this area where there aren't that many choices in the immediate areas. A plus is their reasonably priced wines."

  • "Wonderful old standbys, lot of well done fried items, easy to split but with charge, a tad loud."

  • "I ordered two appetizers for lunch and enjoyed them both. The fried green tomatoes were amazing; I will order those again anytime I find them on the menu. The chili biscuits were tasty, but not nearly so spectacular as the tomatoes. They did not have cornbread on the menu this time, and I missed that. The table next to us ordered off the Restaurant Week menu. One of them had the $12 hot dog, which looked fabulous. I may try that the next time I'm there for dinner (along with the fried green tomatoes)."

  • " Most takes on Southern/Soul food is heavy, comfort food: mostly fried, with overcooked vegetables, and heavy on butter, creams and fat. Yes, you can get good fried chicken here, but what I like is Lucille's more modern take on southern foods with fresh ingredients and a lighter touch. Vegetables are cooked just right and retain their flavor and texture (the collard greens are a good example). The grits with the shrimp are not gummy or overladen with cheese. The pork dishes are always good here, with sides like black eyed peas and pico de gallo instead of the ubiquitous mashed potatoes. Other favorites are cheddar biscuits, any oyster dishes, the fish of the day, shrimp and grits. Don't miss the patio and vegetable garden out back."

  • "I went there to eat because I heard it was a great place, since it is Restaurant Month I thought I try it out. Everything was good. The only concern I had, was the fact that I had picked out Lucilles' because they had included dessert as part of the package. When I get there, the waitress informs me that dessert is not included. I pulled it up on my phone and showed her and then she said "Oh, yea they were supposed to change that, and she was told if anybody ask for dessert, give it to them. Found that a little odd and not very professional, but the food and dessert were excellent!"

  • "Absolutely horrible service. Made reservations. Waited over a hour. People with later reservations were seated before me. We were seated before a couple who were waiting longer than we were. Poorly organized. Had my friend not driven from Conroe, we would have ditched this place. Wait staff wasn't much better. Food was decent but adding a side salad with every brunch entree is sheer lazy. Overall, a terrible experience. I wanted to support HRW but this was a dining experience I don't wish on anyone."

  • "Very good food and service. We had a reservation for 11 and was seated in 5 minutes. Food was delicious... we went for the brunch HRW menu."

  • "As usual (this was our 3rd time there) Lucille's was fantastic in every way. My only disappointment was that the chicken pot pie is no longer on the menu and the lemon pie was not a desert option. Otherwise, everything was fantastic!"

  • "This was my 2nd time dining at Lucille's and I am already looking forward to my 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc visits. The first time I had french toast and fried chicken wings. This time I had shrimp and grits. Both were absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend Lucille's to friends."

  • "Lucille's is a special neighborhood gem that combines refined southern home cooking and a casual and warm eating environment. I will definitely be back for the shrimp and grits and a nice bottle of wine!"

  • "My friend and I dined here for lunch during Houston's Restaurant Week. The service and attitude from the staff was very nice and the overall feeling of the restaurant was quant and welcoming. We thought the food was just ok; not very flavorful. However, it is a place that diners can visit at least once."

  • "I've been wanting to check this place for some time...Brunch menu and food is nothing special. I had the waffle with chicken wings... Waffle was Aunt Jemimaish... The wings were old & dry ... My friend ordered the shrimp & grits and he shared that it wasn't good. The saving grace was the fried green tomatoes We were so hungry after we left we had brunch at another place... Very disappointing!!! By the way, service wasn't any better. Had a 1:15pm reservation. We were not seated until 2pm... Hostess shared that tables were not turning over as quickly as they thought...We had at least 4 people come the table to take our order or to replenish our drinks including the hostess who delivered our appetizers... Just crazy and disappointing."

  • "We had a reservation for brunch but had to wait ONE hour before being seated. It took another ONE hour before we received our food. The food was okay. They were out of items listed on the menu and we weren't informed until after we placed our orders. We only had four people in our party. I was very disappointed."

  • "August 3, 2014 - my son and I and a friend, along with my stylist and her son met for brunch. While the food was outstanding, the service was horrific. My intent was to book my sons graduation event there, but after the lack of service experience and leaving without receiving some of the good items that I had paid for, it will be a minute if ever that I go back to their establishment.😱😨😤😤😡😡"

  • "Disclaimer: Opening Weekend of Houston Restaurant Weeks, Sunday Brunch. We waited nearly an hour past our reservation time. They offered to seat us outside, which we tried, but it was so blazing we had to reconsider. Our 7 year old was a trooper. After finally being seated, no one came to our table for nearly ten minutes. Then, our third course came nearly half an hour past the second course, and initially came out incorrectly (it was just dessert, but still). they gave us the mistake brownie free. They comped us each a round of drinks while we waited. Great ambiance; smiley friendly overworked staff. Food was quite good, although two of us had stomach aches afterwards. Could have been brunch cocktails with no food."

  • "They did not honor my reservation, which was a special date for the party attending. I was horribly embarrassed and we ended up choosing to eat at another location. I will probably never eat at Lucille's again even though it is just blocks from me."

  • "We had a reservation for four at brunch. Apparently so did about half a dozen other parties that arrived at the same time. Unfortunately, there were not any tables available and no estimated wait time. The host station did not know how to handle the snafu and there was no one higher up to apologize to unhappy patrons."

  • "Girls Night Out...first time visit for my two friends. We all ordered the fried chicken, greens and mac and cheese. One piece of chicken was cold and obviously cooked in old grease while the other was a bit fresher and warm... the greens were lukewarm and the mac and cheese was piping hot. Had the cold bread pudding packaged to go. On top of the disappointing meal...my friends and I were asked to give up our table...by a waitress who did not even serve our table...because she needed the table...right after they presented us with the bill. We were asked to sit at the bar where they would give us a complimentary glass of champagne. I eat out all the time and have never been asked to give up my table. #Totally Insulted #Still Livid"
