Diner Reviews
  • "Very disappointed. We have eaten here several times. His time one was by far the worst. It has never been amazing - but this time horrible. Ants on the wall. Very salty"

  • "Took a client here for lunch. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. He had the schrimp and grits and I had the chicken. Fried green tomatoes and bisquets to start; very tasty. They were busy for lunch. Don;t know if this contributed to our service, but we had 3 or 4 different people taking orders, drinks, clearing, and bill paying. We had a to wait a bit for the drinks to get there. Our food was slow coming out, but correct). They would fill my water glass and not my client's ice tea glass. Then I had to get up and go to the bar to pay the bill, since no one came. This hasn't happened to me before here. There seemed to be plently of waitstaff, just not organized?? I'll be back. love this place. This other thing can be fixed."

  • "I went to Lucille's for restaurant week. Unfortunately, the menu is so ridiculously expensive, that it's probably the only time I will go. I tried the fried oysters, which were quite good if you're an oyster lover. I also had the really fancy hot dog. It was just okay. I have no complaints about the service. Perhaps it's the service that you're really paying for."

  • "I had an awesome experience at Lucille's. We arrived early and had to wait at the bar....which was perfect for us. Everyone in the restaurant was friendly and the food was amazing. Great choice for the evening!"

  • "I was anxious to try Lucille's and happened to have reservations during Restaurant Week. The special menu was great and had many offerings of items I wanted to try off the regular menu. A very good deal! Exceptional price and very generous course portions. Everyone loved their drinks and dinner. We tried the crafted cocktails (you must)...great fun. Fried Green Tomatoes, Chili Biscuits, Shrimp and Grits were huge winners. Dessert, as a smaller bite, was perfect since no one was going to go away hungry; so much better than those huge dessert concoctions you get elsewhere. Just right. The vibe and atmosphere were wonderful, super easy self-parking, lovely service, and prompt attention from the hostess too. We will be back!"

  • "We meet our friends from time to time for dinner and drinks. It was our turn to pick and treat so I brought them to one of my favorites spots. They adored all of the appetizers, especially the signature chili biscuits, so we ordered more. The pork was undercooked for our tastes but they took both plates back and returned them in no time. The Peas & Pork was a succulent dish and seasoned to perfection. the other two has the Yardbird and were equally pleased. Cocktails were fun and unique. Tried the Strawberry Jalapeno punch and learned it has to be slipped slowly to avoid choking : ) Great evening!"

  • " Lucille's is in a renovated cottage very close to the Children's Museum. Parking is very easy; across the street from the restaurant. The interior is very pretty and cozy. The HRW menu had all the items that we wanted try so we were able to order off that special menu. For appetizers, we had the fried oysters and the fried Greek tomatoes. Both very delicious. For main courses, we had the Yardbird chicken (with mac & cheese and collard greens) as well as the pork (with black-eyed peas and collard greens). Both were also delicious. Desert (tres leches and brownie) were good but nothing special. Service from our waiter Craig was terrific. Can't wait to return to this neighborhood gem and try other items in the menu."

  • "As usual, Lucille's did not disappoint. The food was fresh and fantastic. Service was super and the wine was superb! I only wish that they would bring back the chicken pot pie!!"

  • "Three ladies met up for lunch. The restaurant was energetic and packed. Two ordered Caesar salad which was very good and the other chili biscuits which were fair. The shrimp and grits were good and the oyster BLT was AMAZING. The drinks (sweet Lucille) was also very tasty! I really want another oyster blt again:)"

  • "Loved our HRW meals. Fried oysters, fried green tomatoes for appetizers, entrees: Fried chicken with Mac n'cheese side and greens, shrimp and grits. Excellent service. Wonderful desserts - melt in your mouth brownie and bread pudding-- and coffee (unbelievably good for decaf) Very noisy, very crowded (Friday night), but good vibe, friendly, fun casual. Not figure friendly food, but satisfying indulgence. Will return."

  • "We dine here often. Decided to do the RW menu this visit and the portions were perfect! The fried yardbird never disappoints!! Everything is awesome and the chef is very personable and friendly. We will continue to visit this restaurant!"

  • "I had read up on Lucille's and was looking forward to going. We went at 11:30 on Thursday and it was so noisy that we couldn't hear each other without yelling. The tables for two were so close together it was easier to hear our neighbor's conversation than our own. Lackluster service, adequate food and deafening noise-nope won't be back."

  • "Everything about Lucille's was excellent. My friend had the Oyster BLT and I had the shrimp and grits. Service was great, food delicious. Will be returning."

  • "Mike had the fried oysters and I tried the chili biscuits on the Houston week menu and we both enjoyed them thoroughly. He had the porkchop which was huge and seasoned well, while I had to try the fried chicken. Although, I had to send my first plate back due to a tinge of blood...can't eat raw yard bird....the second plate was over the top awesome. I've been checking out the fancy fried chicken and Lucille's ranks up there with Frank's Grill and Max's Wine Dive. We will return for sure"

  • "Lucille's is a cozy restaurant in the Museum District just south of Binz. They have a great staff, especially Rebecca, and an amazing culinary line up. On our recent trip there was a large party that slowed down the kitchen, but we were able to have pleasant conversation and regular drink service. If you are in need of some good comfort food Lucille's is a great place to go."

  • "I went during the Houston Restaurant Month for brunch. The different entrees and my drink were excellent. All servers were very attentative. Even if they weren't the server for your table."

  • "Made reservations through Open Table and got there and there was people who had reservations as well waiting to be seated. They told us it's was going to be about 30 min. Got seated and got the HRW menu. The first course (fried tomatoes and fried oysters) were very good. Then I had the shrimps and grits and my bf had the pork and peas. The black eyed peas were cold and not tasty AT ALL. The pork was very underwhelming as well. For dessert we got the brownie which was ok and the bread pudding - I've had better. The silverware used was very cheap looking, the drinks were not great. In all, I wish we would have not spent $100+ here. Not worth it. Do not recommend this place!"

  • "The resaurant was very cozy located in what appeared to be an old house. We were seated 15 minutes after our reservation, but others seemed to wait longer because they had larger parties. The fried oysters were excellent with a little bit of a kick. Both my slow fried chicken and hubby's pork chop was excellent. The Wait staff was very attentive. The noise level was a little high, but I expected it to be that way on a Saturday night during Houston Restaurant Weeks."

  • "Our experience started with the hostess not even speaking to us. The next morning, Wells Fargo's Fraud Department called to say that our Debit Card number had been stolen and was used in Brooklyn within a couple of hours of paying our bill. I went through the use of our card for the previous several days (only at Lucille's and HEB (where I swiped my own card and used a pin)). Wells Fargo believed the card number was written down and supplied by phone to the person(s) in New York. I called Lucille's manager to explain what had happened. I did not lay blame on our waitress. The manager instantly became rude and said "There is NO way that happened at our restaurant!" She did not apologize and quickly hung up."

  • "Lunch for three. Reservation honored, with us being a little late d/t traffic. Entire staff was gracious; frequency of checking was just right. Excellent food; the croissant bread pudding is to fight for!"

  • "We took out-of-town guests for a Saturday lunch and they loved it! Service was prompt but not rushed; food met/perhaps exceeded expectations; everyone was happy! The fact they serve lunch on Saturdays is a plus for this area where there aren't that many choices in the immediate areas. A plus is their reasonably priced wines."

  • "I ordered two appetizers for lunch and enjoyed them both. The fried green tomatoes were amazing; I will order those again anytime I find them on the menu. The chili biscuits were tasty, but not nearly so spectacular as the tomatoes. They did not have cornbread on the menu this time, and I missed that. The table next to us ordered off the Restaurant Week menu. One of them had the $12 hot dog, which looked fabulous. I may try that the next time I'm there for dinner (along with the fried green tomatoes)."

  • " Most takes on Southern/Soul food is heavy, comfort food: mostly fried, with overcooked vegetables, and heavy on butter, creams and fat. Yes, you can get good fried chicken here, but what I like is Lucille's more modern take on southern foods with fresh ingredients and a lighter touch. Vegetables are cooked just right and retain their flavor and texture (the collard greens are a good example). The grits with the shrimp are not gummy or overladen with cheese. The pork dishes are always good here, with sides like black eyed peas and pico de gallo instead of the ubiquitous mashed potatoes. Other favorites are cheddar biscuits, any oyster dishes, the fish of the day, shrimp and grits. Don't miss the patio and vegetable garden out back."

  • "I went there to eat because I heard it was a great place, since it is Restaurant Month I thought I try it out. Everything was good. The only concern I had, was the fact that I had picked out Lucilles' because they had included dessert as part of the package. When I get there, the waitress informs me that dessert is not included. I pulled it up on my phone and showed her and then she said "Oh, yea they were supposed to change that, and she was told if anybody ask for dessert, give it to them. Found that a little odd and not very professional, but the food and dessert were excellent!"

  • "We celebrated a friend's birthday here and this was the first time for 3 of the 4 of us. We specifically went for the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu and the food was very good. I had the fried green tomatoes (excellent!) as a starter; the shrimp and grits as an entrée (good) and the bread pudding for dessert (very good). Our server was very, very good, but the service was a little slow to start. The restaurant was full, so very loud. Parking is free across the street, so that was a plus, but the lot did fill up as I believe they share it with a nearby hospital."

  • "Absolutely horrible service. Made reservations. Waited over a hour. People with later reservations were seated before me. We were seated before a couple who were waiting longer than we were. Poorly organized. Had my friend not driven from Conroe, we would have ditched this place. Wait staff wasn't much better. Food was decent but adding a side salad with every brunch entree is sheer lazy. Overall, a terrible experience. I wanted to support HRW but this was a dining experience I don't wish on anyone."

  • "As usual (this was our 3rd time there) Lucille's was fantastic in every way. My only disappointment was that the chicken pot pie is no longer on the menu and the lemon pie was not a desert option. Otherwise, everything was fantastic!"

  • "This was my 2nd time dining at Lucille's and I am already looking forward to my 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc visits. The first time I had french toast and fried chicken wings. This time I had shrimp and grits. Both were absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend Lucille's to friends."
