A word from Luce
Awarded a Michelin star six years consecutively (2010-2015), Luce features an urban setting that is modern and sophisticated, yet stunningly warm and inviting. The main dining room features floor-to-ceiling-windows adorned with sheer metallic gold curtains. Hand-blown Italian bubble-like lamps provide a flattering glow to the dark tropical wood accents and elegantly appointed tables. The globally inspired New American menu reflects the bounties from the surrounding farms of San Francisco and changes according to freshness and seasonality. Each dish is artistically created and highlights an inventive flair for marrying diverse flavors with natural organic ingredients into a gastronomic delight. The wine program offers a superb collection that inspires daring pairings at prices that encourage exploration, and has garnered the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence since 2010.

Very enjoyable experience; food is outstanding along with it's presentation, uniquely paired flavors enhance this wonderful dining experience. Although the service is spotty and could use improvement (training, education?) we did not feel it was too disappointing to our experience. Wine list is excellent; refreshingly different with it's coverage of world wines with fairly equal emphasis.

What a most disappointing lunch! While the atmosphere is very sleek and modern, the food itself was horrid. My seared ahi tuna was overcooked, and chunky cut. My friend's cobb salad came with baco-bits that were hard to find. The food was worse than denny's. I'll never return.

I ordered a fruit plate for dessert and the fruit was ice cold and not ripe. I only tasted a few pieces and left the rest. The waiter cleared the plate, ignorant to the fact that 95% was uneaten. I would have expected an inquiry.

The food presentation was nice and creative. A delight for the palate. The noise from the open area of the hotel and lobby was quite a distraction since the dining area was right behind the bar. Service was nice and somewhat a bit rigid until the server warmed up. The portions was quite generous. Overall, the meal was quite delicious and I would like to bring friends here but the location, (not the best area of town, near 6th St.) and the noise from the open entry of the restaurant will make me reconsider.

The ambiance and decor of both the restaurant and bar is really impressive. The service was terrific. Our waiter was attentive, but not overbearing or obsequious. We ordered the Rib-eye, which was excellent. Great wine list. As a true lover of chocolate, the "Study of Chocolate" dessert was divine. I will recommend Luce to family and friends.

I was pleasantly surprised - the food was top-notch; and our waiter exceptional. I hope more people hear about this place. My only reco would be to make the desserts a bit more approachable -- it's tough after having apps and entrees that are so complex and layered with so many tantalizing flavors to have to go thru the same thing for dessert. The biscotti dessert had some off flavors that didn't quite work -- the semifreddo on the other hand was sublime. An "easier" assortment would have been welcomed (eg. fruit crisp, pot de creme, something caramel based, etc.). Just a nit!

Dishes were original and very good. They could eliminate what seemed like extraneous items (the black olive ice cream with the carpaccio and the chocolate sauce with the venison -- it actually was forgotten and delivered later in a separate bowl). The dishes were excellent without these and it just seemed overly fussy. The service was very slow. Wines by the glass seemed overpriced although the prices for bottles looked ok.

The portion can be smaller. We are extremely impressed with the restaurant. Food, service and ambient were all excellent. Have plans to return more often.

It was worth going for the "Chocolate Five Ways" dessert alone. This was five miniature chocolate presentations (including mousse, sorbet, pot du creme and even a souffle inside a real egg shell) which was beautiful to look at and delicious. The only down side was that the wines by the glass were mostly not from California.

It is expensive, as you would expect inside this kind of hotel. Appetizers are microscopic but very good, however the dinner portions are larger than you would guess from the size of the appetizers. We nearly spoiled our appetites eating bread thinking the main course would be similarly sized - save the bread until afterwards. The scallops and rib-eye were both impeccable. Dinner also came with baked polenta (complimentary?) which was excellent, little surprise to us after the tasty appetizers and drinks. I am not exactly a big eater but I was completely stuffed after an appetizer, main course, unexpected polenta and dessert. I didn't look at the wine list but the specialty cocktails were also quite good. Foodies should be very happy her

The food was very ordinary, but the prices did not reflect that. The waiter, who meant well, tried way too hard. This made me feel uncomfortable. He was trying to sell the restaurant which I am sure he was trained to do, but there was too much push. Unfortunately the valet parking was too expensive (15.00 plus tip) For me, lunch for 3 with no alcohol, no dessert etc at 100.00 dollars for sandwiches in a so so dining room (that was emnpty) did not make me want to return. mmm@michaelmerrill.net

Service was choppy and interruptive. Waitress seemed unable to time her service to the rhythm of our dinner despite the fact that there were not many tables at all that night. She seemed more keen to get us moving along with our dinner than waiting till we were ready. She should learn to be attentive but discrete, not intrusive! Overall the place seemed very new, with everyone still learning the ropes....

Overall, it had a nice atmosphere, but the food was a little too over-the-top to win me over. The ambiance was clean and elegant -- loved the tiny dark blue tiles on the divider separating the bar from the restaurant, the large open room, and the beautiful tiled floor. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and professional. The food was indeed very tasty and unique, but almost too much so for my taste. (Also, it was misclassified on Open Table as under $30 -- it was definitely more expensive.) Didn't seem right to order a standby like a caesar salad or a steak, but some of the other choices were a little too unfamiliar to be satisfying (ink squid pasta, pork belly). If you're up for something adventurous, you won't be disappointed!
