Diner Reviews
  • "by the # of times we dine at Luce's when in town. The menu and daily specials are varied;it is easy to find attractive selections.I usually spot an appetizer & an entrée that I want and don't want to be "deprived" of either so I bring a portion of each home. Recently I had 2 soft shell crabs sautéed with garlic over spinach:LUSCIOUS. My H's mushroom risotto was PERFECTLY prepared, al dente,& very tasty. Our attentive, experienced waiter Matteo again made our visit special. Dorian, the manager, had our William Hill Napa cab slightly chilled upon our arrival. Dorian provides the leadership that makes Luce so popular. He WORKS, helping his staff, as his eyes scan constantly looking for who needs what when. SERVICE COMES FIRST thanks to Dorian."

  • "My friends and I who are long term (over 25 years each) residents of the neighborhood somehow managed to miss this excellent restaurant. What a delightful surprise! One negative - we keep getting the same waiter who is consistently unfriendly, arrogant and pompous; however, we shall continue to patronize Luce and ignore him."

  • "As we contemplate dinner and review our list of Lincoln Square spots, we return to Luce over and over! Efficient service, delicious food, superb location for Lincoln Center dining, great management under Dorian, William Hill cab of which we are very fond. Even the bread is REALLY good with firm crust outside, meaty but light inside. We have introduced dozens of friends to Luce who return and return themselves."

  • "My wife and I have eaten here several times and have not been disappointed. The service they go out of their way to accommodate you. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is suburb. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to dine out."

  • "Excellent food, great unrushed service and proximity to Lincoln Center make this a great choice for a special occasion or just a pleasant night out. The atmosphere is pleasant and in the summer with outside dining available the openness is very appealing."

  • "From the bread to the William Hill cab (the wine of Lincoln Center that we can't find anywhere else nearby), we always enjoy dining at Luce. Dorian, manager, is "on top" of everything with relaxed efficiency and attentiveness. Service is outstanding yet unobtrusive. Bread and spread are delicious. I can't resist the sautéed mushrooms (side) as an appetizer. Pasta is cooked al dente and perfectly. The chef will vary his creations to suit your desires. Servings are sizeable and plated prettily. You can dine in 30 minutes or 3 hours depending on your needs; the entire staff will accommodate. The seafood salad equals that of Naples (Italy). Had soft shell crabs last visit that were divine. H's fav is pasta with mussels & clams in white sauce."

  • "I had a Wednesday early lunch and Saturday late dinner after a NY Philharmonic rehearsal and concert at nearby Avery Fisher Hall. I selected Luce because of its quieter venue and more reasonable prices than its larger fine competitors immediately surrounding Lincoln Center. Service was welcoming, friendly and timed to my needs. The stracciatella soup and asparagus with prosciutto were a great lunch. I had soft shelled crabs with spinach and my spouse had veal with mushrooms. A bottle of moderately priced red wine completed a happy meal. Luce has never disappointed. I have gone for brunch before and after weekend movies at 68th St. I like its airy open air room in nice weather and the cozy warmer closed door space in winter."

  • "There are many mediocre, overpriced restaurants in this neighborhood. This one is an exception. Lovely, airy space, nice menu, delicious food and very fair prices."

  • "This was the third time that we had eaten in this restaurant, and it is consistently excellent. The most important thing, though, is their wonderful manager that is always ready to please. Great place near Lincoln Center."

  • "Close to Lincoln Center, Luce is a real find. We loved the food and service. Even the potatoes and the julienned vegetables were outstanding. "

  • "The ambience is charming, and food is good. I had the salad and filet mignon -- steak was cooked properly, and of average quality. My friend had the grilled swordfish with spinach risotto, and it was great -- not dry as some swordfish can sometimes be. "

  • "Wonderful salmon for lunch at a reasonable price. Perfectly done, as requested, with tasty mixed vegetables and potatoes. Deserts were also good - the flourless chocolate cake with vanilla gelato was rich and chocolatey, and the berry tart was delicious. Worth repeating often!"

  • "We figured we would try this across the street from where we live. The good looked much better on the menu than in person. On the dirt I am on, I asked what things came with the dish. What the waiter told me was fine, but then the vegetables wre different. The appetizer was cold. The fish was dry. "

  • "We were looking for a nice place to dine and talk without paying the premium prices. Luce is not inexpensive but relative to restaurants in this class, the value is good. The waiter and overall service were EXCELLENT. We lingered at the table for quite awhile and never felt rushed to move along. Their daily fish special was very tasty. The portion sizes are adequate and definitely not the huge meals you often find in NYC. Without question, we will go back again for another visit. "

  • "The octopus appetizer was excellent. Our entrees were delicious and the wine was reasonably priced. A very nice restaurant among the many over-priced, mediocre choices around Lincoln Center."

  • "A place to revisit – My wife and I happened to stumble on to this lovely Italian Restaurant while doing some shopping in midtown. We had a wonderful dinner especially the Papardelle , Scallops and Asparragus. The Luce salad was also outstanding. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was fantastic. The place was very busy and all the tables were full. We shared a nice bottle of Chardonnay which the metre d' suggested. It was a very good choice. The desserts were delicious. My only concern was the weight I gained from finishing the generous portions they served us. Considering the location this is a bargain. We shall return. Frequently..."

  • "Great Food, Exceptional Service – My sister and I were in town for the weekend. This restaurant was recommended by a NYC resident after we had already made dinner reservations following a Broadway show. We stopped in for a light lunch before the show and were so impressed, we cancelled our previous dinner reservations and returned for dinner. The food was great and the owner and staff were very friendly. "

  • "We've dined at Luce twice, once outside and once inside, following matinee performances at the Metropolitan Opera and were very pleased both times. Attentive service, wonderful menu. On this visit my daughter chose the risoto and I the veal scallopini over porcini mushrooms. Both were excellent. Deserts and espresso very good as well. Only a ten minute walk from the Met. "

  • "By the numbers Italian. Oddly, the desserts were deeply flavorable, something the rest of the food could have benefited from."

  • "An excellent neighborhood italian restaurant with a traditional northern Italy menu that is excellently prepared and served. Friendly place, frequently large groups that feel comfortable there. Close to Lincoln Center and the movies as well. Reasonable pricing. Very consistent too."

  • "We ate here before going to the theater....the food was surprisingly good - my husband who enjoys, but rarely praises food really liked his shrimp/broccoli rabe pasta. I had the octopus salad which was really enhanced with the addition of pear. It was a great meal. The waiter was terrific. I have a food allergy and they were very concerned and attentive. I highly recommend Luce. Not sure where the mediocre reviews came from, but I certainly had no complaints. A thoroughly enjoyable dinner. "

  • " A nice restaurant with a great atmosphere, good food, and excellent service.Charming manager .A wonderful place for a date or intimate conversation. It was crowded when we got there, but we had a very short wait for a table. The service was great and very efficient. As an appetizer, we ordered asparagus with prociutto, which was spectacular. Our entrees (branzino and gochi ) were also good."

  • "What a relaxing place to stop for a glass of wine. The food is light and delicious. The guy at the door handsome and charming. If you are looking to run away from New York City stress for an hour this is a most agreeable place to go. How lucky to find this wonderful gem in the immediate neighborhood and appreciate this place for what it is: fabulous, fun and festive."

  • "Luce is my default restaurant before a performance at Lincoln Center. The food and the service are always reliable. The food is especially good for the price. My favorite staple on the menu is the pasta with eggplant, zucchint, tomato and ricotta, but specials are often worth trying."

  • "First and foremost, the staff are very pleasant and accommodating which can be a rarity in NYC. The food is top notch and there is a good variety that should please many people with different tastes & preference. Now that it is Spring, it is the perfect time to dine outdoors and take in the fresh air while you enjoy your companies companionship. Great place for all occasions.. first dates, anniversaries, just because, etc. I have been a few times to dine here and will definitely be back."
