LuccaGood food but a bit priceyLucca is always a good spot when you know you want a nice meal. However their wine list is very pricey with minimal choice below $70 (white or red). There are many other choices in the north end less pricey, but not on the Hanover "strip". Loved that there were gluten free options (namely gluten free pasta), as this is important to both my mother and me. The scallops with green pea risotto were also very delicious. Overall, we had a great time and everyone enjoyed their meals. It was lively. Service was prompt and attentive. We both had the pan-seared Halibut special with some tasty Sauvignon Blanc. The energy level of Lucca is one of the things that makes it a true experience. We were entertained by others, but could also get lost in our own conversation, enjoying some delicious food and each other. I am a vegetarian and they still had many options for me or were willing to create something for my mail meal. Everything was delicious. I forget our servers name, but she was very good. It has great al fresco dining, fantastic food and a real North End ambience. The carpaccio appetizer was delicious with the whimsical variation of black garlic aioli and edamame on top. The lobster bucatini was amazing with a blend of bacon and lobster aioli with a generous amount of lobster in the dish - easily my favorite dish I've had here. The lamb shank and the swordfish special were solidly done. The 5-spice creme brulee was unusual but delicious, especially with a cappuccino. The service was good, but not great. Atmosphere is a little energetic, but warm and friendly...great views with table windows out to Hanover Street...especially 'al fresco' in the warmer weather.
There food is good and inventive, and their prices reflect their pride in the food....but again, if you can afford it or want to treat yourself...its well worth it!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh marks for the food, althoughHigh marks for the food, although a bit expensive. No regrets however, this is a quality restaurant and it is Boston. We'd do it again in a minute. Server was not quite as attentive as we would have liked, but more than acceptable. The out-of-town friends we were hosting were very pleased!
The manager was very helpful on the phone in directing us to a near-by parking garage where Lucca validates. They were a little understaffed so occasionally I would ask for something and they would forget to come back with a response. I had taken my sister and her family, who were visiting from out of town, here once before and they wanted to return ( because they were so enchanted on their first visit) We requested and were seated near the window to take in the hustle and bustle of quaint Hanover Street in Boston's North End. The food was, as usual, outstanding. The baked Orcehetta (sp?) infused with cheese and truffle oil was FABU! Pork Chop, Steak and Bolognese also delighted others around the table. Wine selection was excellent. It is a great place with friendly wait staff and real charm.
