  • "I needed a resraurant at the last minute that could accomodate a party of ten in the North End on a Friday night. The highlights were the service and the wine. The menu was new and slightly disappointing. Some items were great (lamb app and pasta dishes) some were a miss (salmon and calamari). They have no salumi platter on the menu either. Thankfully they sat us in the beautiful downstairs area as the upstairs and bar area was very loud."

  • "Diners should be aware that Lucca only gives you 20% of your value on your OpenTable gift cards. We had no way of knowing this until we paid our bill. First the waitress said she could only accept one OpenTable card at a time. Then the manager said he would accept our cards but deduct 20%. So every 25.00 card was worth only 20.00. This was very disappointing to us. Plus the way they handled this situation was extremely disappointing. The manager made no attempt at all to satisfy our complaint. They benefit from OpenTable/American Express advertising but then cheat the customers out of 20% of their value on the cards."

  • "For the four of us it was the first time to Lucca, though we are frequent diners in the North End of Boston. The front desk was prompt, efficient in identifying our reservation and having us taken immediately to a very nice table. The waiter showed up almost immediately with water and answers to questions and took drink orders. Drinks arrived in short order and all four of us ordered different menu items. It's a relatively limited menu, which is good, but with enough range to cater to almost all tastes (in an Italian restaurant). Each of us was very pleased with our meals. We were thanked by the folks at the front desk as we left. Every person we dealt with was friendly and smiling. We will return."

  • "The wild boar pasta was fantastic. Tasty morsels of boar along with a scrumptious tomato sauce make for a very satisfying entree. The ravioli was a little on the "sweet" side but that is the nature of this dish...it was very well executed. Our waiter encouraged us as we wavered in our choice of trying the sautéed calamari...we are used to the fried type. We took the chance and were very pleased...tender calamari prepared in a special way....delicious!"

  • "We went to Lucca's on Friday night 3/27/14 and I had the lamb shank that fell off the bone and had great flavor it was delicious! Service was great with the waiter being both friendly and efficient. It was a busy Friday night but he noise level wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear your dinner companions voice. Would return again and recommend to my friends."

  • "Lucca is not the oldest North End Restaurant for sure, but it has been going on long enough to get tired--NOT SO! Lucca remains at the top of its game. The staff has a engaging style, clearly the work of the Williams brothers (owners) who manage to spend a lot of time in the restaurant, showing how its done. It is a large space but has many parts to it so it does not seem overwhelming."

  • "We ate at Lucca on a Saturday night. I really appreciated how spacious it was the North End because you don't get blasted by the arctic cold every time someone walks in. We sat in the back and yet it was still relatively noisy. The bread and the spread they served to put on the bread was just ok. It was still good, but not over the top. Then the sauteed calamari with pepperocini, fabulous! I had an arugula salad that was very good. I ordered the lobster and linguini, very good. My husband ordered the bolognese which is was very pleased with. He loved the extensive wine list. This place is a keeper for a special evening out. They delivered on the food, the ambiance and the service was great."

  • "In town for concert - decided to try a new spot in north end - had been to Lucca backbay - both are excellent. great service, friendly atmosphere. Service was attentive and meal was delicious. We think Lucca is a cut above the quality you should expect when dining in the North End. Manager makes eye contact, thanks you - makes the experience feel like your business is truly appreciated."

  • "We made a last minute reservation at Lucca on Saturday night, because I live close by but it wasn't my first choice because I had been there before and was disappointed with the food then too. But I thought I'd give it another try. I don't want to be too harsh here, but the food is just not up to par for what I expect in the North End at that price range. I stuck with an old standby - a bolognese. My meal arrived absolutely swimming in sauce, and unfortunately, the sauce wasn't very good. It tasted like it had been simmering in a pot for way too long (meat texture was off, tomato tasted almost a tiny bit burned). And I couldn't even enjoy the pasta because it was so laden with that sauce."

  • "We were promptly greeted when we arrived and were seated almost immediately (we had a reservation). We had a window seat with a view out to Hanover Street and enjoyed watching the hustle and bustle. Our waiter was attentive without being a nuisance. We had oysters on the half shell for an appetizer and they were very good. For our entrees, my boyfriend had a halibut special and the bite I tried was outstanding. I had a scallops dish, which I also loved. The portions were just right and the dishes had a really nice presentation and great flavors. All in all, I was very happy with the service and the food so I will be coming back here again."

  • "We were there just after 7pm on Saturday night, during a snow storm. Our service was fast and friendly, the food was tasty, hot and delivered fast, but not so fast we felt rushed. The room we were in was packed, with several other couples and groups dining, but we had no trouble carrying on a conversation. My boyfriend enjoyed his pork tenderloin and I enjoyed my lobster bucatini."

  • "Tried to make Valentines day reservations with 48 hrs notice but nearly every restaurant was booked solid. I was told people had made reservations 2 weeks prior. Lucca had a 5:00 slot open so even though that was a little early we took it. We got stuck in rush hour traffic and arrived 20 mins late but they were very accommodating. The food and service ended up being great, and at $150 for 2 people, drinks, and an appetizer it was certainly well within reasonable price for a night out in the North End. I would not hesitate to go back!"

  • "The food at Lucca was absolutely fantastic! We had the salumi, bucatini, orricheti & tiramisu! The only thing that diminished this dining experience was that the service was just OK. When at a fine dining establishment I don't expect the waiter/waitress to be hovering, remove plates while others at the table are still eating or remove my plate the second I put my fork down. Otherwise, I would definitely come back here."

Often a more popular and trendy spot can end up with a place to be scene, rather than the great service, friendly staff, and remarkable food I encountered at Lucca. Food was prepared quickly, but you don't feel like your being rushed out to accommodate the next set of hungry and curious patrons. BRAVO LUCCA! You'll be seeing me again!!!"

The server allowed us to take our time ordering which was nice. The restaurant was not too busy when we arrived at 7, but was buzzing by 8. A handsome comfortable space with a good wine list.   • "A busy Saturday night brought 8 of us to Lucca's. Two of us had been before several years ago and had a great meal. This time was different. Two of us arrived ahead of the rest, were seated promptly, and then forgotten for 10 minutes or so. When we finally got some attention, it was for water. When we finally were able to order drinks (more than 30 minutes after sitting down) we were brought the wrong wine, which we were later charged for (and removed from our bill after we pointed it out). When we finally got food, at least one order was wrong, but by then we were too hungry to complain. Yes it was a busy night, but either hire more or better waitstaff. Also, we should have spoken with the manager that night. Caveat diner!"
