Diner Reviews
  • "Went to Lucca looking for a great North End find but was disappointed. The food was nothing special and clunky. Had to ask 3 times for the mozzarella bread, which was heavy and tasteless. The pasta with broccoli rave and sausage was drowned in cream and the rigatoni, while spicy, had no finesse. Too bad -- much better choices to be found"

  • "Similar meals can be had at a lower price point within the North End"

  • "Delicious food and great service! The people who work at the restaurant were outstanding -- very warm and welcoming. We dined there for a birthday celebration for our adult son and they accommodated my request for a window table and surprised him with tiramisu with a candle. He was even serenaded by street musicians! It was a memorable evening. A perfect spot for a summer dinner in the North End. PS. I loved the scallops."

  • "We enjoyed our food immensely--the lobster pasta was amazing! The service was equally impressive. People watching from a window table was fun. We will be back next time we are in town."

  • "Lucca has excellent food, service, and ambience. Very busy, but each diner gets the attention they deserve. I would recommend to anyone at anytime and will go back as often as I can."

  • "We are Northenders who haven't been to Lucca's for many years. We found it was definitely a great place. Our meals were great. Their cucumber vodka was superb. We sat at the window and it was fun to watch to action on Hanover Street. We even indulged on dessert. We will be back!"

  • "Bread is super. The oil is light and so tasty. Our first course choices were off the charts. Main course meals were great and traditional. The gelato we had as part of our desert was so creamy and smooth that it exceeded anything we had in Italy and in our home area of north eastern New Jersey. Dinner here is a must."

  • "There are many great restaurants in Boston's North end and there are also some notable excellent ones, Lucca is one of the notable ones. Not a huge menu but the point is that everything on the menu is excellent, everything. Try them all and it might be hard to choose a favorite."

  • "Keeping it simple: Great food, better waitstaff. We were a group of seven and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Prices were standard for North End, though portions were comparatively smaller but still filling."

  • "Food was exactly what I was hoping for from a North End restaurant, especially since I prepped my clients for a classic Boston night out (trip to Mike's at the end). Only gripe is the speed of service; waiter hit us hard up front for wine, then disappeared for like 30 min before we even saw a menu. Kitchen wasn't the slow part, as the food came out in normal timeframe, but the slow menu deliver almost made Lucca a wine-only event for our relatively large group."

  • "Good North End location. Great food , energetic, attentive service. Perfect for date night or out with friends."

  • "We had a wonderful window table as requested. You could watch the excitement on Hanover St. The food was outstanding. Wonderful flavors blended together"

  • "This was our first time in Boston and couldn't have chosen a better restaurant to end our trip with. The basil-bean dip for the bread was delicious and the Cavatelli was really tasty. I was quite impressed with the wine list as well- a great selection. However, the one drawback is that "energetic" does not justly describe the noise level. It sounded like a sports bar more than anything. Understanding this is not the restaurant's fault, I will never get why some people feel the need to scream at the person sitting across from them at the table.."

  • "Every time we visit Lucca, we always have an amazing experience! The servers are quick and knowledgeable and the food is exquisite! The manager always stops by our table and chats with us which always rubs us the right way and enhances our experience! My husband and I have a five year old daughter who accompanies us and they always cater to her. We will continue visiting Lucca once or twice a month."

  • "The people at Lucca never fail to deliver. Another outstanding meal."

  • "One of our favorites in the North End. Dinner is always exceptional, it does get a bit noisy in the lower level but never out of hand. "

  • "The meal would have been fine had I been allowed to eat it in a reasonable time frame. My appetizer plate was taken away as I was wiping a little sauce from the plate and my main course was placed down. So I let it sit while I took a breather and, of course, the meal was cold when I began to eat. When asked if I didn't care for the meal, I told the waiter I needed time between courses and so it was too cold to eat...it didn't seem to bother him. And, the restaurant wasn't even close to full..."

  • "Waiter was rude. Noise level was obnoxious. Went to Lucca for a nice dinner with my wife. It was supposed to be the highlight of the night but we couldn't get out of their fast enough. We sat down and were starving, we asked if we could put an app in. We were YELLED at "we don't do that." As a former waiter this is when you would say okay and hold to it till we order. Then we ordered drinks, which never came. Finally the waiter said "the computer froze" and asked us for our drink order again. Then by time we ordered, we skipped the app because we just wanted to get out of there. And we got attitude from the waiter because he knew earlier we wanted an app - his loss he should have taken it before. After all that the food was below par. "

  • "The waiter was a very nice. He found a place to charge my son's iphone. He provided really good service. It was a Saturday night on a graduation weekend. The North End was bustling and so was the restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Wine that I got for a reasonable price was good. The food was ok, not great. I didn't particularly like the calamari appetizer. The main course of gnocchi, a dish I like and order frequently, was not as good as other places where I have had it. Dessert was fine. The dinner was expensive for what you get. We had a nice graduation celebration, but I doubt I would go back. "

  • "ambiance was great, asked for and got a window table, and because the night was so nice, they opened up to outside. Lovely meal, fun spot."

  • "The food was very good. Besides the food, I was more focused on the conversation with my two dinner mates than jotting info down for a review. thanks."

  • "This restaurant is top notch. I've never had a better tasting, more perfectly cooked filet mignon in my life! Their wine list was extensive and the service is impeccable. Highly recommend. "

  • "Somehow the kitchen put our app & entree order at the same time. First, the waiter asked us if we wanted them together - wha? Why would we order a salad to split and want everything rushed? How does a nice resto do that? When I asked if it's going to be under a heatlamp, he assured me it would be remade (I've worked in restaurants - right). He was a nice guy, and eventually came over to ask us - very quickly how everything was. I would have said something but we were in the middle of a conversation, and he ran off anyway. At the end I told him some advice - don't lie to your patrons. It was OBVIOUS our food had been sitting around, lukewarm, and my cod kinda had a crust on it, the farro was like mush. I think I was generous with 3 stars."

  • "We were seated at the open front of the Restaurant with all the activities on Hanover Street at our table side - Great fun to watch all the people enjoying the evening. The food was perfect with superb service."

  • "Very boisterous and the food was only fair. The staff however were terrific. "

  • "The food was tasty and good and had a different flare but pricey for the north end and for the small portions that were served. "

  • "Great food though small menu. Originally sat in a second dining room which was very bright and not same ambiance as main dining room. We were moved to main area which we appreciated. Overall food was wonderful and we would definitely return. B ar was hopping and might try a bar seat or high top next time for a more casual experience."

  • "Service was great, both serving our table were prompt and very helpful. The entrees were a miss. Of the four of us, two got cold food. Didn't complain as servers were so nice, and sending food back is not my thing. Would not go back. "

  • "The food was fantastic! The place was really busy and there wasn't a lot of space between people, but it was still really nice. Very fancy food and location. However, when I was at the bar upstairs I had a glass of Moscato (I only like really sweet wines) but then when we were seated and I asked for another one the waiter told me that they don't serve Moscato by the glass. How is that possible if I already had one?"

  • "Our family came in for lunch on Easter Sunday and had a fantastic time. Great and fast service from both our server and back server, and all of our meals were exquisite. Extensive Italian wine list, all of which were superb. Appreciate the variety of gluten-free options that do not sacrifice taste. Wish we had room for dessert!"

  • "This was our second time dining at Luca. We live in NJ and went on our last visit. We couldn't wait to dine at Lucca again! The food, service and atmosphere were perfect! The waiter had was most willing to accommodate our special dietary restrictions. The chef made sure that the food was delicious even with our dietary restrictions. The evening was never rushed and a great overall experience. We'll be back on our next visit to Boston. "

  • "Went here with my family on the weekend of the marathon and easter, so every restaurant in Boston was PACKED. I made the reservation well in advance, and we were seated right away, but the seating in the basement was very dark, with candles on the table but hard to see the menu or our food. It didn't bother me too much but they complained. So for the food: I got lobster gnocchi, and everything was delicious except for the gnocchi. The lobster and sauce were great, but the gnocchi was tough. Other dishes included the rigatoni with bolognese sauce, which was good, but heavy on the meat and the chicken saltimboca, which was very good. This was a crazy weekend, so this may have affected our experience but don't think I'll be coming back soon. "
